- Go Faster for Cheap! TSX Rear Sway Bar
By Brian Gillespie and Aaron Gaghagen
Last time our Mini TL TSX got big brakes and steel braided brake line from Fastbrakes, "new" 5Zigen FN01RC wheels, and coilovers from Tein. This time we are upgrading the suspension with the addition of a rear sway bar from Progress. The Progress rear sway bar for the TSX steps up to a 22mm adjustable bar and that should really help the sedan rotate when attacking the corners.

I had Progress coilovers and rear sway bar on my EK and it was HILARIOUSLY fun to chuck into corners. Big shout out to Progress, they make fantastic stuff.
Makes the cornering so much flatter so you can carry more speed
Progress tech hollow chromoly on the 9th gen 6-6 Accord is an absolute must. Can't say enough for what it did for the handling... At a nice 3-in drop and some uhp tires and it's the perfect recipe for a hell ride through the countryside.
Pro tip: give the sway bar a couple wraps of Teflon tape and grease. The Teflon works wonders for when the grease eventually wears off.
Great idea
What kind of grease you recommend? And where is the spot to wrap the Teflon and grease in particular
@@latuba2478 Any grease will work fine, marine...superlube..whatever. Do teflon wraps in the area where the polyurethane bushings clamp on to the sway bar + a half inch extra on either side. Then a thin smear of grease on top and a bit more on in the urethane bushing itself.
I have a TL-S rear bar with tein S techs and koni yellows. I do not like the teins much, personally I wish I had went with ground controls to go with the yellows.
The S techs ride ok, like stock but a little sportier but I find them to be too soft still and overall too low in the front.
By far the best mods for the 1G TSXs are a rear sway bar and ECU reflash. They really wakes up the CL9 chassis and K24a2, and are relatively cheap and easy mods to do.
CL9s have very good stock suspension (spring and dampener tuning) from the factory but could use some negative camber up front and a little less camber in the rear. For a while I ran my car on track with just the TL-S rear bar and stock suspension and didn't mind the body roll the stock suspension allowed. It was extremely neutral and still allowed for rotation. Honda really nailed down the camber arch in this car despite the roll and comfort it provides.
Best bang for buck performance mods:
-TL-S RSB
-Conti ExtremeContact Sport tires
-Hawk HP+ pads
-ECU reflash
-Intake resonator delete, replace with velocity stack
Nice set up!
@@VTECAcademy thank you! The SPC 5 piece rear arm kits are also a good mod to have just that extra bit of rear geometry adjustment that I've used to nearly zero out the rear camber.
I think some Ground Controls with my Konis in addition to my TL-S front Brembo conversion and rear 12.3" bike upgrade will complete the chassis rather well.
Supercharger next...maybe.
what car are you running tl-s sway and brembos on? TL or tsx?
TSX. TL-S rsb would fit 1g tsx.
I hate HP plus. The dust will oxidize if you let them sit in rain😢
Great video! The TL-S Rear sway bar is also a great cheap upgrade for the TSX.
underrated comment.
Absolutely, at 20mm its definitely stiffer than OEM and is a little cheaper.
Love your content guys! I think if you organized content into categories or projects and then each video is a step or section within those categories, that would help a ton. Then labeling the videos with more descriptive/SEO friendly language like a class syllabus or something...I think that would be freaking awesome and give it much more of an educational/academy type feel. Example like Category: K-Swap 1995 Honda Civic Si
Part 1: Replacing suspension and brakes
Part 2: Remove existing D/B series motor
or whatever it might be. Then in the description you add text talking about what things you're replacing/fixing/upgrading. For example if I wanted to search how to install rear swaybar on a TSX, there's a specific video that goes right to it, shows me step by step or something like that; has like a curriculum flow or an educational flow. Or if you guys did something like a purchaseable step by step K-Swap for different years of Civics or whatever, that would be awesome.
Yes, that makes sense, but UA-cam doesn't like that. We don't get suggested to new viewers unless we play the title/thumbnail game. All of the projects are arranged in our playlists if you want to follow a specific project.
Without watching the video... From my personal experience, it's probably one of the best and non intrusive handling mods for this car. I have a basically stock TSX, haven't even lowered the car, but adding the tl-s sway bar made a huge difference int he handling. I feel like it handles similarly to lowered cars on coil overs. Maybe not as confidence inspiring, but definitely close to it while not sacrificing ride quality at all.
I live in a canyon, and always drive through twisty roads every day. I think it makes a huge difference.
I had an 06 TSX with a lowered factory Aspec suspension. I later added the larger Progress RSB. Made a noticeable difference with improved handling on the curves with the larger sway bar. Ended up snapping a rear endlink just turing into my inclined driveway a few years later. Replaced with HeelToe Automotive Fastline adjustable powerlink endlinks.
I’m definitely doing this to my dc5. I never did it to my old dc2 gsr because it required that subframe brace to prevent tear out, it had spacers, long bolts and nuts etc, seemed to clunky and heavy.
Cool how it was compared to the stock bar, noticeably better
We didn't plan this, but Progress has a discount on rear sway bars right now. www.progressauto.com/product/progress-gear/99.SUPER.SAVE-progress-super-save-coupon
Made my 06’ Rsx type S so much more fun. Car feels great.
Manual swap coming soon? 👀
🤔🤔🤔
This is the first mod i've seen that really feels like something I want. Thank you!
Back end coming loose on the street is unsafe in that instance, not unsafe if you're being tail gated by someone travelling too quickly almost rearending you but you see it happen and are forced into a Swedish flick on an off ramp
As long as it isnt wet you should be good to go. But when it starts raining you are going to want those better tires in the rear.
But honestly I drive really slow in the rain. And I live in AZ.
@@VTECAcademy ask any racer, any real racer. Best in the rear.... >.> XD
At which hole of the Progress did you tested? Would be interesting to see difference between the two holes of Progress.
We used the lower stiffness. Progress recommends this before going to the stiffest to get a feel of the car rotation first.
This is a great mod on this chassis. I've had my Progress bar on since Feb of this year, it's my fave mod on the car.
It really is!
I’ve been running a progress rear bar on my TSX for 9 years now, I DONT run it in the aggressive setting.
I’ve run a big sway bar on EF hatch that has spun me around in the rain a few times. Don’t want that happening on the daily.
That sounds like you had tires that didn't offer the best grip in the rain, or you were going too fast.
I had this swaybar on race mode (stiffest setting) for the last 7 years. The car oversteered a little around corners but turns in nicely.
Do u need an alignment after?
I went took the budget route... TL Type-S RSB...
It's probably not as cheap as it was 10 years ago.
Still pretty cheap.
Brian, your engine mounts are the best…now when I can afford them I need to upgrade to your badass axles :-)
Appreciate it! Don't forget Hasport has a lifetime warranty on mounts.
Great video gentlemen! I have an 06 Civic EX 1.8 with automatic. Aftermarket struts and rear shocks totally adjustable dampening. Aftermarket rotors and pads. 6 1/2 inch wide steel Honda wheels with 205x50x15 Road Race Hoosiers slicks! -1.5 rear camber with 1/16th Toe in, -1.5 front camber with 1/16th Toe out, stock sway bars. I weigh 2582 no driver, LF 816 RF 814 LR 489 RR 463, 2762 with me, LF 896 RF 829 LR 540 RR 497. The car pushes - under steers bad - my perspective. What sway bars would you guys swap to?
Progress 24mm adjustable rear sway.
Had progressive cs2 coilovers on my Integra with a 22mm sway bar from progress as well it was my weekend track/dd car in it was fun too toss around corners. Just ordered tein flex x for my tsx and I’m gonna be adding some progress sway bars and front strut bar. Not gonna track it but want to be able to throw it around a few canyons and have a little fun with it.
PROGRESS FTW !!!! I can't wait to install mine
It’s good stuff!!
I can’t find many videos for my car which is a 2005 Honda Accord coupe ex v6 which ashame
Where you purchased the sway bars ?
Do you guys think the Touring model of the TSX would benefit from a new Swaybar
how sloppy the front end is? Next replace front sway bar
I like the way you teach, well explained congratulations.
Once again bigger is better and loose is fast! Great video content!
Thanks Vic!
I am from Cyprus and i have Honda Accord with R20 engine. Can i put K24z3 engine and if yes what are the maim parts i will need with the engine to work my car like original Accord k24z3? Thanks for your amazing videos.
Yes, but we aren't familiar with your particular model's wiring.

Hello. Could you tell me the number of the part that you put, please?
The Progress Suspension website is down right now, so I can’t look it up. Can same be done on a 2013 tsx wagon to get same results?
🤞
I'm sure it can.
I installed the front and rear sway bars from the 08 TL Type-s on my TSX and it made a huge difference and installed the TL type-s Breaks from the TL
Front doesn’t fit
@@albertforero3381 what doesn’t fit
when installing the tl-s brembos on the tsx. what all did you have to do? i have a set of front knuckles and brembos sitting around.
Is it perfect fit or need modification ?
@@josecunsako31 for both it’s perfect fit on the sway bar the breaks you need to buy parts
You have any 5 speed transmission for sale k series
We do not. Check car-part.com
Have you done anything to avoid the mounts tearing of the subframe?
No, most of the TSXs running the Progress rear sway haven't had that issue. Our suspension is a bit stiffer than stock so there is less stress on the mounting point.
did u use the stiff or soft setting?
That was on the soft.
Great video 👍
Hey guys, know of a thicker front sway bar that we can use on the tsx??
I wonder if the TL front sway bar is thicker?
@VTECAcademy I was thinking his also since TL rear fits but I don't have access to usdm cars to find out for myself. Was hoping you can confirm?
@VTECAcademy still would like to know but I found a front and rear set made by H&R in Germany. I've purchased a set. 28mm front and 20mm rear made from (hf) 50CrV4 steel
The tsx and the accord are very similar right? Would it be wise to do this on a 2005 accord?
American accord is a different chassis then the TSX. The TSX is based on the jdm accord.

@@thehaltingproblempittsburg6071 for the sedan yes the accord coupe tgou of the same

Any new updates on the tsx?!? 5spd 6spd swap?
We’re going to have to wait till we get back from Australia to start on that one

Any issues running the stock sway bar end links at the current ride height?
We haven’t noticed any interference. They should be fine.
I eventually snapped a rear endlink with my lowered Aspec suspension and Progress RSB. Added HeelToe adjustable Powerlinks and front/rear camber kit to get everything into specs after +100,000 miles.
Got progress rear sway bar 24mm for $100 . Super deal . Can’t wait to install mine . Should I use OEM links or adjustable links that come with kit ?
Adjustable so you don’t have pre-load.
I added Progress RSB on 06 TSX Aspec and kept the OEM endlinks. Snapped an endlink a few years later just driving up my driveway. Switched to Fastline adjustable powerlinks from HeelToe Automotive and had zero issues (TSX was totalled in 2019 by a red light runner).
@@mrgold3591 dang sorry to hear about the totaling . How did the car drive after the rsb was installed ?
@@white9th193 It drove and handled like a dream with the Aspec suspension and Progress RSB. It felt stock and very comfy; but, lowered in normal driving. It felt planted and rotated a lot better when the roads got curvy (17" Conti DWS tires). This was the main reason I went for the TSX instead of a TL because of made in Japan quality and better handling of the TSX.
Im present and ready to be schooled, Teach! 😄🤏🧠
