Brutal honesty pushes through in the lyrics as Alexandra Kay tells the story of a relationship she feels to have ended too soon. All of the thoughts and emotions that go along with meeting “the girl who took your place” slap you right in the face with lyrics like, “I kinda want to hate you, I kinda want to be you…” Everyone can relate to this anthem of envious love which is now available everywhere.
The Story Behind this country music ballad starts when Alexandra Kay took a writing trip to Nashville, TN to write with two people she had never written with before. After listening to a song she wrote seven years prior, they struck "Gold." An emotional story comes to life through the sound of a classic 80s & 90s country song. Alexandra Kay's unique personality and maturity breaks through as she tells a real story that so many ex-lovers face when they live in the same small town, go to the same dive bars, and can't avoid running into one another.
On release day this single landed #1 on iTunes Country Music Charts & #7 All-Genre. The track also charted #13 on the Billboard Country Music Charts.

Everytime I listen to a song the first thing that I want to look for is the storyline and the message, feelings conveyed by the artist to his/her listeners and the first time I heard of the song I kinda don't, its just got me and I download it (as soon as possible) in my spotify playlist as one of my favorite english songs and listen to it everyday. It’s been 10 years since what I thought was my soul mate ended things and started dating someone else. It was a mess and I’ve had feelings about it for years. Due to a mutual friend, him, his wife and I, we all ended up in the same wedding party and I had a 4 day out of town bachelorette trip with his wife. It’s weird, it’s awkward, it’s kind of uncomfortable, but we’ve been inviting each other out and getting our kids together. I told her I didn’t hate her and I didn’t want him. I’m happily married, but at the same time I can’t shut those feelings off. I’m glad this song came out, I didn’t need another I hate you song. I needed this song.
