@@Ieltsadvantage According to my knowledge, the loose synonyms that are frequently mistaken for "teacher" are "mentor, trainer, coach" and the close ones are "pedagogue, educator, schoolmaster/schoolmistress", though I am rather cynical about the validity of the final 2 words due to them sounding a little bit overly academic.
@@absurdmemes3732 I would say educator is the only close one that's appropriate. Remember, you don't have to give many; just show the examiner you are aware of them. There will be other words you can vary to show range too.

Thanks for the advice! Btw, I have an exam coming up next month and started practicing through the official site. In one of the listening exercises where you have to fill in the missing text I had written "don't have" and later it was marked as incorrect. Instead of written abbreviated, the correct answer was written " do not have". I was really surprised.

You do not have to demonstrate as wide a vocabulary at university, but you should be as accurate as possible. In other words, don't get too fancy or try to show off.

I was thinking of that word myself; 'infants'. Which I believe encompasses the entire prepubescent demographic. But not all children are prepubescents! As for 'forerunners', this is a synonym of ancestor/antecedent. Which refers to those that have come before us; but does not necessarily grant the status of parenthood. Whereas, 'Forebearers' and 'Progenitors' are perhaps more precise in this regard but are probably considered too academic and sesquipedalian in use.
