Yes my very first video made with my wife’s holiday camcorder, it was a great fly past especially as we were brought up with great films like, The Dambusters, similarly my Dad worked as ground crew on Huricanes , Mustangs and Kittyhawks across North Africa and up through Italy…….all the best Pat

I am ex BBMF ground-crew and have flown in the Lancaster numerous times. One day we were walking in the lake district, When I said to my wife " I can here a Lancaster" several minutes later, it flew low over the lake we were walking around. it brought a Lump to my throat, made the hair stand up on my neck and i could not stop watching it, that's the power of the sound of four Merlins.

Nice to hear from you Dave, and what a interesting job you had, very rewarding I would think. My Dad did similar in WW2 as ground crew to Hurricanes, P51 Mustangs and P40 Kittyhawk in North Africa. Those Merlin's sounded fantastic, especial 4 of them in sync, all the best Pat

My father used to tell the story of cycling to the Derwent Dam as a boy and seeing the Lancasters over the dam without knowing why they were there till a lot later when the story came out. I went to look at the flypast on the 75th aniversary last year unfortunately the weather conditions weren't right and it was postponed for a few days so I missed it. Thanks for posting.

Fantastic sight Pat, those tornados with the 617sdn tail art look fantastic. I came down from North Yorkshire for the anniversary in 2018 but unfortunately the weather was too inclement to allow the Lancaster to fly so we only got a single typhoon fly past. Still, a fantastic trip with a nice wild camp the night before, the highlight being the closest I’ve ever got to a cuckoo, it came and landed appen 20ft away whilst I was sat having an ale watching the last of the days light fade. Keep up the good work sir, all the best 👍🏼

Hi there, my very first video on our holiday camcorder, all those years ago, seems like only yesterday.
Fantastic to see the Lanc coming down the valley, although the 50 year anniversary in 1993 was the best, thanks Pat

Imagine, when they attacked the dams for real, they were about half that altitude and people were shooting at them.
I live in Lincolnshire and in the summer we often get impromptu flypasts by the BBMF planes, the Lancaster is the most impressive,

+Billy Sherratt Must of been very moving to see the actual dams that were raided. This was the third time I ,d seen the flypast at Derwent and the first video I ever made.Ii used my wife,s small video camera whether that explains the jerky filming I,am not sure seemed OK when first put on. Thanks for comments Pat

Hi Pat. It was very moving indeed, especially on the Mohne dam. You can stand right in the middle of the dam walls. I tried to imagine the Lancasters` coming overhead and the bouncing bomb hitting the wall. Fantastic feat, especially at 60 feet high and in pitch darkness.

If your wild camping with full kit then a military 120l bergen would be the best bet. Most wild campers only stay out for 1 or 2 nights unless you can get food & water supplies en route.

The first time I heard about these bouncing bombs was in the TV Serie Foyle's War. It is very imaginative to come up with such an idea. But not easy to carry out. Drop it to soon and the bomb will get stuck in the anti torpedo net. Drop it to late and it will bounce over the dam.
