Please get on Strava, if for no other reason than it will accurately track your time on all of these climbs you will do without having to manually time yourself. If you don't have a bike computer that supports Strava (most do), you can run Strava from your phone.
I second this! I mentioned a bike computer in an other vid. You will thank us later, when you wanna go back to see how well you did when you was 10 kg heavier. :) The bike computer and strava does it all for you automatically.
Of you would ever consider cycling in Belgium, there is a guide in app form called cotacol. It includes the 1000 thoughest climbs in Belgium. And you can link it with Strava.
Well done Ryan, great effort and great time. Never done it myself. I second the bike computer, if you have the money get a power meter as well and get on Strava. You can also get the 100 climbs as an app and will automatically log your times once completed via Strava. I have only been riding for 1.5 years now, I have lost 2 stone and in better health. My challenge this year was hills so I entered the Dragon Ride Gran Fondo in Wales which I completed in June, in myself I smashed it and I’m now addicted. I’m in Chelmsford which is not far from you, at the end of Feb there is Hell Of The Ashdowns in Kent so it’s close and the following week is the Kentish Killer (beginning of March) which you should have a go at. I have been looking at the Fred Whitton which you have to enter by ballot. Have a look, once you start, you can’t stop

Really well done and welcome to the hill climb addiction. Can't wait to see what's next. There should be plenty of the Surrey and Kent climbs that should be doable in a day trip for you.
The 6/10 rating I believe is a combination of everything, difficulty, length, beauty of the ride, volumes of traffic etc… I’m working my way through the app myself, the original 100, another 100, the X list and then the sub lists of the South West & Wales! Get on the app dude, you’ll unlock plenty more climbs to conquer many of them right on your doorstep!
Brilliant effort Ryan!! All that Zwifting is certainly paying dividends!! You Mention Mount Ventoux - I have been lucky enough to have been over to France to tackle this beast - The first completing The Club Cingles - 3 different roads up Ventoux completed within 24hrs of starting - Highly recommend it The second being to complete the Ventouxman Triathlon - Both are good fun(!) All the best with ticking off the 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs - When you get to the West of Scotland - give me a shout and I will come and join you - and suffer together!! 🥵

Thank you, considering I'm almost always in my lowest gear on these climbs I only have one 'cadence'... Grind! And my BPM is always maxed out but I do take your point, a bike computer is definitely needed. :)
Nice work Ryan , as for Toyota Land Cruiser and the very very close pass at the top of the climb GY07DTZ , you should report them , irresponsible driver with their near side wing mirror folded in should be reported with your video evidence , folded in to ensure they get as close as possible to cyclist

I've meant to commend that book to you before, but the South East edition. It has some absolute belters in it, and some a bit closer to you, too. Massive respect for tackling that climb. It's a tough one, for sure (I often see people getting off and walking up it). You looked great going up that; in control the whole way. And that's a great time. The Strava segment actually finishes a bit before where you stopped your watch (stops about where your partner was standing), so you can knock a few more seconds off it, too. Have to get you entering into some IRL Hill Climb Races soon!

Dude! That was EPIC! Take it from someone who did a lot of road riding. 9% and 15% grades are VERY tough. And you did it on a GRAVEL BIKE. Lord almighty. I'd love to ride Winnets Pass in the peak district with you. I'm riding back into fitness after 8 years off the bike. Winnets pass an otherworldly place - could be from another planet... Some sportives do it (but make sure they go up, not just down!!)

I have, I prefer spd shoes and pedals as I can produce more power without risk of slipping. I have noticed a significant difference and I also use them on my indoor Zwift racing.

@@RyanCondon It may be short but it will kick your head in a bit. VO2 max for a good 18 or so minutes. The amount of people that walk up it on the Whitton is surprising. Honister from seatoller side is also a good one.
@@RyanCondon It's a strange one as leading up to it I always wonder if I'm going to make it? Even having done it 8 times already. A good challenge is riding 10 mile in from the carpark at Gosforth, over Hardknott and Wrynose (both ways) and back to Gosforth. Toughest 28 or so miles I've ever done. I always used to say "them road bike weirdos that actually like climbing need their heads checked"...Now I am one of them.
I feel the same way - I love climbing, despite being a relatively heavy guy. Sneaking a peak at your Zwift profile, it looks like you and I have a great deal in common on a bike (racing score, weight, ride style preference) - with the exception of me coming to Zwift from an outdoor-only experience rather than picking up IRL after loving Zwift. Given these apparent similarities, I have a question about Zwift racing that you may have insight regarding: Can any early conclusion be drawn from finishing alone & smack in the middle of races? Lead group well ahead, no one anywhere near me behind. This after about 7-8 miles in when I drop from the lead group.
No conclusion other than you were probably strong enough to stick with the lead group and on another day you would have.... Thats what I say to myself when it happens to me. Thanks for watching. :)

Yeah, there's something about climbing hills that you just don't get from the flat. I love 'em. Shame you live in the flattest party of the country! 😂 Moving out of London to Gloucestershire two years ago means I'm constantly climbing hills with a huge sweaty smile on my face. Anyway, well done. More IRL riding please. As you get used to bike handling you'll find them easier. Part of the physical stress of riding them is just your unfamiliarity with handling the bike. When you're more comfortable with that, the climbs will be easier.
Cheddar gorge is a nice little climb there’s one just down the road too called burrington combe I live reasonably close to both if you’re ever in the area give me a shout
Hope you realise that once you climb this 100 from the original Simon Warren book, there is then another 100, plus an X-List (X-rated climbs list) and then top 100 climbs for each region! This challenge might take you a few years 😄
I am sure someone told you before, but most cleats have adjustable resistance for click in and out. Nothing to do with new pedals... Congrats for the successful climb and great support from your wife!
Ryan you absolutly need a computer for the bike...and while you're at it. Get a backlight whit radar in it...its a gamechanger to know when traffic are rushing up your backside... i cant ride without the radar now...

Hope you realise that once you climb this 100 from the original Simon Warren book, there is then another 100, plus an X-List (X-rated climbs list) and then top 100 climbs for each region! This challenge might take you a few years 😄

I am sure someone told you before, but most cleats have adjustable resistance for click in and out. Nothing to do with new pedals...

Ryan you absolutly need a computer for the bike...and while you're at it. Get a backlight whit radar in it...its a gamechanger to know when traffic are rushing up your backside... i cant ride without the radar now...

Avoid going cheddar gorge very over rated if you want a challenge in Somerset try Crowcombe hill it’s a 1/4 incline,1.3km long,average gradient 15.5%

Some kind context for you - My sister (mad loves cold dipping), once lived on a hill (Rhondda Valley) where you needed to turn your car wheel into the kerb in addition to the heavily applied hand brake 😅 😅 to avoid a potential fatality by morning.

I think you need to work on your core strength, you wander all over the road. You'll find that you'll be much stronger out of the saddle too.
