    Hey Tom, I have been a PGA Professional for 34 years. Everything you say is what I teach. I have said for years that if you turn your shoulders, the hips will turn, because its physically impossible to turn your shoulders without your hips turning. You seem to teach like I do, which is that your body will react as it should if you just turn your shoulders back and through. Thanks for the validation!!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  9 місяців тому +14

      And thank _YOU_ for _YOUR_ professional validation, Tim!!
      As you well know, many misguided teachings of widely accepted "conventional" instruction - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively hinging the wrists, rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). Let's continue to clear these up, put an end to the madness, and get as many folks as we can on the path towards the level of contagious ball striking bliss that has them continuously yearning for more. From my perspective that is how we can be most effective in carrying out the PGA's charge to "grow the game".
      Thanks again and keep up the great work preaching the truths of a consistent, body-friendly, powerful swing!!
      Tom

    I am self taught golfer of 67 years and my evolution ended with a golf swing very similar to yours. It got there with a personal philosophy that is similarly aligned with yours that is (KISS) Keep It Simple Stupid. You have actually given me slight refinements to even simplify it more.

      Thanks for sharing that, Chris. I'm glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you, and I appreciate your validating remarks regarding this swing method!
      By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with advanced level material, diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.
      And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ That is where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner.
      As you have surely discovered, one does not need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.
      Thanks again for your message and keep up the great work!

    You are so right about how the golf swing can totally destroy your back. For the last several years my back had been getting worse and worse. But I started doing the swing your way in August of 2023 and my back (and my game, and my general mobility) has been sooooo much better since. I deeply appreciate your work Tom, thank you.

      Hi Michel .I am an 80 year old Spinal Consultant still working . Young Tom is unique after countless so called Golf lessons in Scotland the home of golf . I came across Young Tom - Hallelujah - at last logical practical excellent demonstrations .and perfect anatomical sense .Young Toms teaching shows in practical demonstrations how the body's shoulders - arms - hips -legs -feet all Require to work together . Not fighting each other and guaranteed injuries ((( my swing was like an octopus legs and arms every where LOL ))) . If Tiger only had instruction from Young Tom I am sure Tiger would still be a Healthy amazing golfer . thee was no way his body could have handled the stresses. There is a teaching school in Scotland near me .that shall remain unidentified . they video you and use Tiger as template for your swing diagnosis . they are really nice folks .but I have mentioned any one trying to emulate Tigers swing a certainty they will be Injured . Global Golfers the only teaching academy you want to learn from. how to swing and avoid needless injuries .is Young Toms Saguto Golf . being 80 I may not make the Ryder Cup LOL but thanks to Young Tom I have never hit a Fat or Thin shot again ❤

    I totally agree Tom.
    I have 3 degenerative disks in my lower back since my mid 20s and am now in my upper 60s. I now have more restrictions on my left side (side bends). The swing of Will and Natalie would absolutely jam my lower back, left hip, and SI joint. As well as cause indirect muscle aches (more like pain) in the hip flexors, groin muscles, and eventually pain all around the outside of the left knee.
    Stack and Tilt is so much easier on all these body parts. Although I had to be careful when starting the learning process S&T because the old swing would creep in and / or I would do the movements too fast and uncontrolled.
    Absolutely love this channel! Keep up the great work!

I had zero confidence in my swing with way too many thoughts going through my head, but your simple approach allows me to play golf without having "paraylsis by analysis". I have watched a dozen of your swings in slo mo...Your hips ALWAYS lead in downswing....no exceptions. You are such a gifted teacher so would love to hear your feedback. They are not turning "later" as they begin to "fire" as you cpmplete backswing.

      Agreed. See same thing and also see good side bend. Not as extreme as Zalatoris but it’s there. Unlike me who stands up with square hips at impact. I still need the instruction on “firing hips” to get where Saguto is.

      Exactly.
      Before any downswing his hips bump towards the target (same with every tour pro and high quality golfer)
      Yet in their videos like always talk like they ain't doing this.
      Like bruh, we have eyes. We can see it happening

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  9 місяців тому +5

      Hi Mark,
      That is a good and valid observation, but it is all a matter of *_how_* my hips are working. The lateral targetward action of the hips acts as a governor to prevent a premature over-rotation and thereby enables the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a very powerful move that you will notice with every great ball striker. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while the head - and thus the swing center - remains in place.) Most amateur golfers already have plenty of the rotational component; they need to build in the lateral hip slide to suppress the early-onset spinout that causes so many to get steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. Here are some lesson videos specific to this topic:
      - ua-cam.com/video/Us6jSgMvJmM/v-deo.html
      - ua-cam.com/video/dB4ItR3guGU/v-deo.html

      @bonddizzle 9 місяців тому +7

      I think the point he's making in the video is that yes this happens but it subconscious in the swing motion. like all the rotation you would do when throwing a baseball, if you overthink one part of it you'll miss the forest for the trees.

    Played 18 at the local nine hole par 3 yesterday. Front nine my "old" swing and the back nine Tom's "chunk proof machine". Front I was +11 with zero greens hit. Back I was +2 with five greens hit. Night and day. No internal swing thoughts, it's all in the setup and address then once its "set" I just swing and it happens.. darts. Im 46 with a bad back but Ive been working on the Rahm style swing with the Couples 5-6-7-8 tempo and it has cured my back pain caused from that swing Tom is speaking of with much more consistency . We will never hit every strike well. Pros and all these really good UA-camrs don't even do it. It's all about raising the % of well hit balls. Instead of 3 or 4 out of 10, it turns into 7 or 8 out of 10 good strikes.

      I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, David! But in actuality, the thing is that this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to super seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world.
      Having said that, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Proven body-friendly benefits aside, this powerful, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top.
      Thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well).

    When I look at the slo-mo, I see that the pros start with their feet straight and parallel to each other whereas you have your feet angled out about 45 degrees or so. I've done this for several years after watching Golf Sidekick's technique of what he calls "Charlie Chaplin feet," that is, having your feet angled out as you do. If I try to keep my feet parallel, I can't hit a ball for diddly. IMO, having your feet angled out promotes a natural release for the hips, arms, and shoulders. Great video, Tom, you're making the game more enjoyable for this 74 year old.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  9 місяців тому

      Yes indeed - the outward flaring of both feet in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power move that also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone.
Steve Elkington (considered one of the best golf swings by his peers on tour) flared both feet at address. Greg Norman, Nick Faldo, and Nick Price all changed from square right foots at address to flared right foots at setup when rebuilding their swings, and they all became number 1 in the world with flared right feet. There are many top ball strikers on tour who flare both feet. The square back foot was done by people who drove and slid their back leg in the 70s. Modern tour pros rarely swing like that.

      Of course Fuzzy was correct, but isn't it interesting that when Tiger finally came back in earnest from all his back and knee surgeries - and this was several years prior to his car crash - he did so with a completely revamped motion that was devoid of all that restrictiveness and "torque" that destroyed his body? The "new" TW swing shared and continues to share many elements of the method taught here, and that swing captured both the Tour Championship and Masters trophies before he nearly destroyed his leg in the accident.

    When I "fire" my hips too early, I just hook it into the woods. Just bring them through nice and easy and I end up driving the ball 290 and contact with the irons is crispy. Good contact is 1000x more important than any level of "insane speed" you might get by trying to drop your trail shoulder 90 degrees.

    I have shared so many of your tips with a great golfing friend of mine and now we are both mashing the ball and laughing about it. We laugh because before we were trying all this crap we see on line that basically only the pros can do and we sucked trying to swing with so many thoughts in our head. With the “Saguto Way” we just get up there, set up like Tom trains us to do, then hit the darn ball!
    Thanks Tom as always for all your lessons in your videos. I try my best to never miss them.
    Last comment- can you do a reminder video about the proper grip sometime? Thanks so much!!

      That's awesome, Kirk - I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you and your buddy; excellent job incorporating it into your respective swings and putting it into play!
      My main concerns with regard to grip are that the handle remains secure in the fingers throughout the entirety of the motion and that the proper hinging and unhinging of the wrists is fully supported without any contrived effort. Beyond that, each golfer is free to add their own individual flair and determine what works best for them, while recognizing that their ball flight is very adept at telling them if their grips starts to "leak" one way or the other.
      By the way, based on your question and your progress it seems to me that the level of detail you seek would best be found in the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school, and it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. Have you and your friend enrolled yet as a means to take your learning - and your games - to the next level? The school is where - in addition to focused lessons and drills that take you through the entire motion step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying and resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise as well as all my short game instruction, plus advanced level courses and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    I just recently found your channel, Tom. The videos are helping a lot! One of the huge problems I have is inconsistent contact, and when there’s contact, it’s thin or topped. At address, the club position looks good, and when I swing, my swing arc is lifting up at some point, and the club never hits the ground. I might be “standing up” in my swing, or doing something else weird. Do you have any videos on this topic? Thanks for all the help so far!

      Here's the thing, though - there's really no benefit to trying to squeeze an extra yard out of your swing by contorting your body in a manner that would make a Romanian gymnast blush anyway. Actually, the body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system I teach is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers.

      I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you! And you are absolutely correct: the misguided "fire the hips" notion has plagued so many amateurs with an early-onset spinout that makes them steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. This leads to a host of impact and ball flight issues, not the least of which is a chronic slice.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  4 місяці тому +2

      I'm very glad to learn of your ball striking improvement with the irons, Mike; nice job!!
      It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices.
      Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA.
      2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
      3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )

    The biggest issue with online golf instruction is people take tips on takeaway from on person, grip from another, slot position, hip movement, etc. To many swing thoughts and you can’t be consistent.
    The key is to find yourself someone you relate to and find value in their information. I vouch for Tom because I tried almost everything. Tom’s teaching has made me a consistent striker.
    My advice to anyone. Stick to one instructor so you don’t confused yourself. Case in point all other videos right now is about that hip movement. Thank you Tom for making it easier to have fun. Life is too short to play bad golf and I don’t have the time to be at the range being a father, husband, and work.

      With regard to watching different videos from different sources, we must absolutely be careful in navigating the muddied, overly-complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction, and I could not have put it any better than you just did in your comment. Commit to a system - whether it be this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance method or another - put your blinders on, and stick to it.
      I sincerely appreciate your kind words and support, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Thanks so much for sharing your low-maintenance ball striking improvement and keep up the fabulous work!! 💪💪

      Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it!
      This powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to super seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing the motions of this system, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top.
      The proven body-friendliness of this swing is further validated by the fact that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      By the way, thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through the aforementioned online school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

    Good stuff. A buddy of mine showed me one of your newer videos showing the same thing. Are we still load in the left side and keeping it there?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  8 місяців тому

      I'm glad you enjoyed it, James! Yes - we are absolutely preserving the forward weight load. We start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs). We achieve this by addressing the ball "stacked", shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips 1" towards the target while keeping everything else in place. That presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. During the swing we gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. The upper torso/head - and thus the swing center - remains in place during the increasing forward weight load in the downswing. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing.

      I'm a ski instructor who 'golfed' 0-6 rounds per year but never tried to figure out the sport until a couple years ago, @SagutoGolf.
      We have the American Teaching System and the ATS is a solid foundation to base your lessons; but in golf it seems like like the wild, wild west with the only commonality being: deliver club face square at impact.
      I liked simple swings that were repeatable and reliable and no big athletic move to make happen. Moe. Ben. Rham, others too.
      In skiing, understanding the physics of the turn and how to best manipulate your skeleton to resist those forces starts on day one. Expert skiing is just the moves of beginner skiing amplified.
      Golf is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay harder to master than skiing IMO. An 87% good ski turn is an awesome ski turn, but an 87% accurate golf swing is a 99% fail.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  8 місяців тому

      Hi Peter,
      The proper setup will have the hips angled downward, which can be confirmed by checking that the belt buckle is pointing towards the ground. This presets the angle that the hips will rotate on in the backswing.
      Having said that, Steve Elkington preset his hips and straightened his trail leg in his setup when he was learning this system...and he even played tour events doing that! So yes, what you are asking can certainly be done.
      Based on your message it seems as though you are gaining an understanding of this methodology. Now, if you'd _really_ like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system by learning it in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider my online school. I just read Ben Hogans book and he says to start a swing with the hips, and that it's the only way to start a swing. Please explain how your method of going shoulders first is better, thanks!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  8 місяців тому

      Hi Ron,
      When properly deployed in sequence our hips play a role in preserving our downswing path and they can certainly provide a power boost. When prematurely rotated, all bets are off. For example, the lateral targetward action of the hips acts as a governor on the rotational component, thereby enabling the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a move that you will notice with every great ball striker. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while the head - and thus the swing center - remains in place.) This will occur naturally if we allow it to, but unfortunately the misguided "fire the hips" notion has plagued so many amateurs with an early-onset spinout that makes them steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. For them, the "feel" of the shoulders leading will help them to overcome this, correctly engage their hips, and fix their path, thereby leading them to a solid, "crispy" impact condition. Here are some lesson videos specific to this topic, with the first one specifically speaking to Mr. Hogan's hip action:
      - ua-cam.com/video/iejRWhuB7y8/v-deo.html
      - ua-cam.com/video/Us6jSgMvJmM/v-deo.html
      - ua-cam.com/video/dB4ItR3guGU/v-deo.html
      - ua-cam.com/video/I5XYgKopTb4/v-deo.html
      So yes - in other videos I do also teach how to _properly_ lead with the hips. In fact, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and results. This is why I routinely recommend the online school - saguto.golf - to anyone who truly wishes to experience the joys of consistent, powerful, body-friendly ball striking bliss. The sequential lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness.

      In this regard, permit me to share that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.
      You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.
      Thanks for your message!

    When you go weight forward is it on the toes or heel of the lead foot

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 місяці тому

      At address you should be balanced between heel and toe in both feet. This balance is achieved by first setting your knees over the toes (or at least over the toe end of your shoelaces) to activate the ground connection, and then pushing your butt out to incline the hips and chest so that a relationship with the ball is established. During the swing it is perfectly fine to experience pressure shifts in either foot as they respond to the dynamic motion, but not to the point where we are falling back onto our heel or leaning too far forward over our toes.

      With regard to those Tour players of today and yesteryear, indeed it took them years and countless swings day in and day out to hone their craft and get their respective idiosyncratic swings dialed in to the extent that they have. That's a testimony to their hard work, determination, and perseverance.
      I do occasionally share some elements of various top players' swings that we would do well to emulate or avoid, as I have done in this video. However, just like them each of us is unique physiologically and psychologically, and we should thus endeavor to build our unique-to-us swing while also preferably residing within the parameters of a proven, low-maintenance, consistent, powerful, body-friendly _SYSTEM. _ This is why thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

    Do you like the idea of feeling that your trail arm stays folded and passive during the downswing and that it is your trail shoulder that starts the downswing? Thanks.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Місяць тому +1

      I'm perfectly fine with that feel, Bob, provided the trail arm retains its proper orientation throughout the downswing and into impact. I really do like the concept of simply "allowing" the arm, hand, and wrist actions to happen without forcing anything. In other words, if we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper wrist and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.

      @@SagutoGolf Thanks Tom for the very detailed response. I really appreciate it. The only manipulation if you would call it that that I feel like I'm doing is making sure that my trail palm is facing up to the sky at the top of the swing and then it points to the ground during the downswing and post impact. You are certainly familiar with a training aid that is based on the same principle. It really improves the compression on the ball and make sure you're delivering the club at the proper angle.

      I revised my previous wtbs method to focus more on the extension of the trail wrist. Here it goes. What do you think?
      ---
      WTES Golf Swing Method Explanation:
      1. Weight Forward (W): At setup, place your weight forward on your lead foot and maintain it throughout the swing. Keeping the weight forward helps you stay balanced and generates a solid foundation, especially at impact.
      2. Tilt (T): Start your backswing by tilting your lead shoulder down, pointing it directly at the ball. This ensures you remain centered over the ball and set up the proper swing plane. The tilt promotes good rotation and prevents unnecessary movement.
      3. External Wrist Rotation (E): During the backswing, focus on keeping your biceps connected to your sides and your trail wrist extended, with the wrist bone facing up at the top of the swing. As you transition into the downswing, it should feel like it points down to the ground and passes over the swing path. This keeps your wrist extended and prevents early release.
      Feel Tip: To reinforce this, you could purchase the Precision Impact Golf Trainer, which helps maintain the correct wrist extension throughout the swing, similar to the feel we're describing. It ensures your trail wrist stays in the right position and helps generate better impact.
      4. Sweep (S): On the downswing, lead with your trail shoulder as it sweeps down toward the ball and continues through the shot. The trail shoulder guides the motion, with the arms and hands staying passive and the trail wrist extended. This sweep generates power and helps maintain control through impact.
      ---
      This method focuses on Tom Saguto's teachings ensuring a connected, consistent swing. The external wrist rotation and shoulder sweep help you maintain wrist control, and the Precision Impact Golf Trainer can further reinforce the wrist extension feel if desired.

    Good video about it being unnecessary to fire the hips as fast as possible, or get as open with them as possible. 3d of the majority of tour pros show that is not what they are doing. Too many bad instructors and general people in the industry promoting that movement that doesn't correlate with clubhead speed or power. The pros you named that really twist their hips are not the fastest swingers nor the longest hitters on their tours, far from it.
    Former World Long Drive champion turned instructor Monte Scheinblum posted an article that showed his hip speed, Rory Mcilroy's hip speed, and some of his students hip speeds and it shows that there is no correlation between hip speed and swing speed.
    3d shows tour pros (and long drivers ex: Martin Borgmeier, Jeff Flag, etc) decelerate their hips prior to impact.
    Many other instructors also show that the hips are not a significant power source (Mike Malaska, Tony Luczak, Adam Porzak, Pete Cowen, Kerrod Gray, Giles Gill, Danny Maude, Andy Carter, Chris Ryan, Shaun Wbb and AMG. Just to name a few good instructors). Good job working to dispel the false myth that hip rotation and hip speed produce swing speed...its false.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  9 місяців тому

      I sincerely appreciate your validating and detailed remarks! This will occur naturally if we allow it to, but unfortunately the misguided "fire the hips" notion has plagued so many amateurs with an early-onset spinout that makes them steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. For them, the "feel" of the shoulders leading will help them to overcome this, correctly engage their hips, and fix their path, thereby leading them to a solid, "crispy" impact condition.
      Thanks again, and I appreciate being included among such great company!

    Question for you. What is most likely reason of hitting off the toe with this swing?. Have you ever done a video on this topic?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  9 місяців тому

      There are various causes of toe hits, with the most common being related to setup - for example, address the ball towards the toe and/or the arms are not hanging down naturally and are in fact slightly reaching away from the body - or a downswing path that is coming from the outside and across the ball.
      While there are certainly videos on my channel that address an across-the-line path, a better option for you would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  9 місяців тому +1

      Don't overthink this, Russ! When properly deployed in the correct sequencing, our hips certainly provide a power boost. When prematurely rotated, all bets are off. For example, the lateral targetward action of the hips that you referenced acts as a governor to prevent a premature over-rotation and thereby enables the player to keep his upper torso square without having to fight their body. For them, the "feel" of the shoulders leading will help them to overcome this, correctly engage their hips, and fix their path, thereby leading them to a solid, "crispy" impact condition.

    what do you think of Jake Knapp's swing? maybe the smoothest power swing I've ever seen.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  9 місяців тому

      Certainly a very powerful swing that generates a ton of speed, Rick. Jake's action differs from some of what you will learn here as his is a bit of a two-plane motion with a disconnected trail arm at the top. This necessitates having to drop it in the slot the precise amount each and every time, but through repetition he definitely has it dialed in!
