I got a donated speed queen in 2017. Since then the repairs I made myself. Changing the pulleys, belts, motor, and evaporator for normal wear and tears. Even though I have seen speed queen name going to the laundry I never connected the two to make it the most best washers out there. They are truly easy to maintain and belts are easy to change. I have nothing negative to say about the speed queen when the water pump stopped working, its position was right below the motor easy to put new one attach the hose out back the top that was on the front. I didn’t have to take it out or anything. I absolutely love love love mine. Mine had gotten too rusty by bleach area and broken apart. But I’ve never had problem with the mother board or anything. The people donated it to me and told me they had it for 14 years this would have been 7 years I had it. So my issue is sometimes it works I think the locking mechanism is finally going. But still washing great! I swore to my daughter that this year I researched my option to the point where I came up with 2 solutions and that is getting another speed queen that I trust, love and fixed saving me hundreds and hundreds of dollars on repair costs. This year it will be another speed queen and highly, highly recommend it. I’ve researched and got the same response in Home Depot, Lowe’s and aitoro. They said lg’s leak a lot in the back. So if you have a stackable, you have to pull everything out. Too much work. Just to repair it. Maytags and Samsung are not worth the money so don’t buy them. They said lg’s are good but as soon as they get them home trouble starts due to leaks and flooding issues. They told me for the amount of money in a new investment go speed queen. They told me they have 5 year warranty, and lasts 25 years. They are actually right. If you love your appliance like anything else, you take care of it, maintain it. And just buy the parts yourself, when needed. Not that often. Then it’s a great investment. But as soon as a washer leaks, or needs a change of belts you throw it out and buy a new one every year and be wasteful and fill up our landfills for simple repairs. Then do it! I’m saving money on a great machine. Mine is a 27” agitator with 3 knobs. You really don’t need all that fancy electronics or Wi-Fi ready crap. Go old school, you won’t regret it.

Every TR video has people giving someone grief about not getting a TC. I’ve had the TC and TR, both are great. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the TR, and I like it better. I’ll make the choice simple though. If you’re white collar, get the TR. If you’re blue collar (plumber, construction, etc.) and your clothes get filthy, get the TC.

My first SpeedQueen I had 18 years and I gave it to my niece. That machine never broke period. SpeedQueen did make an energy efficient model about 5 years ago and it had many problems so they went back to the original design with an energy efficient option. I’ve gotten my daughter, sister, and friend all to go SpeedQueen and they love them. I can’t wait to get a new TC5, or TR7 model.

SuzyQ_Las Vegas: 4 years ago my 1992 MAYTAG finally gave out. Water all over the floor and transmission oil also on the he floor for a few years. It probably would have cost close to a thousand dollars to fix . Too bad I couldn't have bought that Speed Queen from you that you gave to your niece. I have the 2018 SPEED QUEEN TR5 SERIES WASHER the only one of 3 TR SERIES WASHERS no TC5s that year. Consumer Reports rated the 2018 SPEED QUEEN washing performance poor. I should have researched further but I was in a hurry to get a new washer not realizing this design. I had to get a new washer to do my elderly friends laundry because she was in a nursing home and needed laundry washed every week.

We have a family of 7. One is in college now so more like a family of 6. We do about a load per day in a Maytag large capacity that we purchased 10 years ago. The dryer has already done with so we're looking at replacing both. It looks like all of Speed Queen's washer models are only 3.2 cubic feet. Is that accurate? How full is your laundry basket when filling it in the washing machine? Right now we pile ours 1.5 laundry baskets high so it is overflowing and we still can't keep up at times. It doesn't look like in the video she put much in.
Also, I called an appliance company recently that sells the Speed Queen. They quoted me a price of $1700. Ouch. I'm going to look at them tonight but do you think that price is per unit or for both washer/dryer?

Great video. My parents have this same washer. Wish they had gotten the TC series which offers the classic flexvane agitator no lid lock has extreme agitation power from the older days, those are the machines you certainly can use powder with. This new speed Queen series washer offers a delicate swishing wash system so it may not fully dissolve and incorporate those as much and don’t overload it as it needs more room within the tub so wash laundry due to the more delicate system.

Brooke, if your dryer isn't getting your clothes dry in one cycle you may need to clean out the exhaust hose from the back of your dryer to the outside vent. If it is clogged then the air can't flow freely and the dryer can't do it's job properly. This may also create a fire hazard.

6:05 there is a plastic grate that goes over the lint trap on our 2016 Speed Queen that keeps your cloths from picking up lint as you remove them. There are videos on here about how to clean the washer and dryer, which I am in the process of doing. It's a chore, to be sure but .....necessary. If you haven't already done it you'd be surprised how much lint gets INSIDE walls of the dryer. Plus the vent to the outside. It's not too bad though once you watch the videos of those who have gone before us.

Suggestion: use a bag less vacuum cleaner to clean out the lint screen after every drying load. Use the soft brush piece and that should clean the lint and debris from the nooks and crannies. I’m so glad you were honest in this video. I had a speed queen that I purchased for close to $1200 over 10 years ago. It lasted seven years. I used non-HE-powder detergent because I was told you could do that. At the end of the life of the machine the drum was rusted out and it was leaking. Everything was a disaster. It no longer spun as well either. The dial to turn the machine on broke, that cost $170 to replace along with being ripped off by the local repairman with their extra labor bill. I will never purchase a speed queen top loader ever again in my life. Currently I have a Maytag Toploader that I bought a big box store for $700 and it’s working well. I do not use powdered detergent in it, only liquid HE detergent or Tide pods. I only wash in warm water or hot for the towels and bedding, and I use a machine cleaner once a month.

Liquid will cause a smell in the machine… it will coat the backside of the basket with so much petroleum that will cause a smell, clog the basket holes…. Same with earth friendly detergent is vegetable oil, it does the same…. Now if you want to use liquid you must use hot to warm water to break down the oils….this will also cause the dryer to produce more lint…stay away from auto fill. The machine is only allowed about 6-9 gallons of water(green deal - energy star regulations)whereas large will give you about 20 to 27 gallons of water…. Those grey/black marks are from using the auto fill and unfortunately overloading the washer.
You basically have to sort the clothes in these new green deal/energy star washers…
Powder is best, but you should use only 3 tablespoons of detergent(recommended for when clothing is very dirty) for large load, 2 tablespoons for medium and 1 tablespoon for a small load…
When you have that much lint, is because too much detergent is being used…..
Most people don’t get dirty…. In reality 2 tablespoons for large load is more than enough… just need to refresh the clothes….
That’s my two cents from 34 years of laundry experience. This is all I have done, fixing washers and dryers. My kenmore washer is 1989, yes still works, my boss(wife) loves it…. I also have the lg 4.5 cu ft loader (wife’s washer) and the lg 5.2 mega front loader…. Mega is mainly for bedsheets, comforters, pillows, etc., the top loader is mainly for my boys clothing and mine…Yes three washers, lol. Wife uses all three.
    We use powder….
At the end just use very little detergent….. 40 years ago, the box of detergent was 40lbs. For 80 loads… just ask yourself, how loads do you do a week? Then see how long has that box/bottle of detergent has lasted.
I asked my wife hey, how loads do you do a week, she said 8 loads… ok how long did the box lasted? Oh long time 5 weeks??.. the box says 220 loads! 8x5 is 40, where are the 180 loads?. She’d understood, after the discussion, she tried my method…. Clothes come out cleaner, fresher, brighter and color stays annddd almost no lint in the lint screen…. She stated, don’t get big headed….. lol… this was 22 years ago by the way..
    be safe humans

Good info! From what I've seen, Speed Queen's auto fill is better than other brands and uses a different technique (buoyancy/resistance?) and will completely fill if it needs to and without a bunch of sensing and dancing around! Normal/Eco is the govt cycle and just does a spray rinse. I have a 2002 Front Load Washer and I have seen how it has been affected by various detergents over two decades! You are right that HE machines (or front loaders) need less detergent to work properly. I think the enzymes in the more recent years help too, but need the cycle to be long enough for them to activate and do their work. When detergents had phosphates, they could do a good job in a very short amount of time and keep your machine clean (old top loaders and even my front loader have short wash time since they're from the phosphate era). I also used to use powder when it was abundantly available. I've used liquids the past number of years and see more sudsing issues and the need to use top rated detergents (probably for the enzymes). I still use Warm and HOT water. About 10 or so years ago I was having to pre-treat more, maybe before they got the enzymes figured out, but don't seem to need to do it as much now.

Speed Queen is probably the closest thing you can get to a old school Maytag. Only complaint I have about Speed Queen is their dryers run a bit on the hot side, only really way to remedy that is to replace the cycling thermostat or throttle the burner down if the dryer is gas.
Yeah, the lint screen is a bit peculiar on these dryers. That’s why the Whirlpool 29” dryers are popular since the lint screen is up at the top. A lint screen at the front that slides out at the front is also popular as well. The particular Maytag set I am using from the 70’s has the lint screen on the back of the drum, a bit cumbersome to get to at times but since it’s still working, will continue to keep on using it since it still works along with it’s matching washer.

My dear, you ALWAYS clean the filter throughly the drying, and immediately before removing the clothes to fold. That trick from a lady who had a Laundromat years ago. She said it was because she would forget to clean out the filter each time. So the headsets became, “clean it out five minutes into the drying cycle. Check it again 15 minutes in the drying cycle. When it is done, clean out the filter first . Then take out your clothes to fold. And you will be happy.“ I thought that sounded smart even back in 1971.

Yup! They are over priced. Knowing that washers only last 1-5 years maximum I just go to the big box store and get the washer with the cycles I need (including a second rinse). Currently with a Maytag top loader impeller. I didn’t even bother buying the extended warranty because most repairs we can do ourselves and buy the parts online. That’s far cheaper than waiting on a repair man from the big box store. I paid $695 and got new water hoses from an appliance dealer because the big box store’s hoses were junk. Get the braided water hoses.

I have the 2017 manual top loader, and love that. I had the dryer, but I hated it. Yes, that lint trap is terrible, and mine also started having electrical problems right after the warranty went out. I got rid of it and got a LG and put it on a pedestal so I don’t have to get on the ground to get the dried clothes out. LOL Also, the lint trap on the LG is a million times better. With the SQ dryer, the lint trap was empty most of the time, and the pipe that the dryer hose connects to, was ALWAYS full. I was continually cleaning that out and pulling chunks of lint. Which is a normal part of maintenance obviously, but ours goes to the roof, so it was a hassle to do that so often. The LG traps lint so much better and we’re not having to do it once a month anymore. My husband is 70, so it was a real hassle getting on the roof, pulling the dryer out, and trying to get behind the dryer in such a small space. Now we can wait a little longer in between, and the lint trap on the LG is always full. It does a great job of catching lint.

Speed Queen is sold in Canada under a different name called ‘ Huebsch’ ( don’t ask me how to pronounce it). We bought a pair in the late summer of 2022 . Ours has a 7 year bumper to bumper warranty, parts and labour. Both have digital controls. They are much better than the front loaders. No issues with the washer so far but the dryer has an electrical hum when the power button is off, when the power button is pressed to program the cycle the noise goes away. The noise is coming from either a relay or a transformer inside the dryer. I’ve had the front control panel replaced, but that did not eliminate the problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Well first off, there's a part missing off the lint trap of your dryer. It's a small plastic grille or grate that prevents the clothes from dropping into the trap when you take them out. Don't know if you got those second hand or it was missing new, but mine has it and it's listed in the parts diagram. I have the 2014 AW432 set. That set you have is a 2018 set which is the first year after the 'Perfect Wash' invertor motor technology which was met with mixed success. That tub ring is unique to that new design. I would get a water softener if you don't have one. It will help ALL your appliances and won't matter what kind of soap you use. My biggest gripe is, which is not unique to SQ alone, the baked enamel finish is nowhere near as durable as the old Porcelainized steel finish. That black stuff around the ring is rust from under the steel lip of the top cover. Mine had the same thing. Little bits of rust dropping down when it operates. I use my set maybe once a day and only had 1 repair on the washer and 1 repair on the dryer in 9 years. The washer was covered, in fact it was 'just out of the warranty' and they covered it anyway.

The washer is not nearly as good, clothes are not as clean and you have to do more loads because of the small size. After only 4 years there is a load moaning noise that sounds like a whale and it kills during the spin cycle. The warranty was only 3 years. Wish i didnt fall for the 25 year expectation. Steer clear of these things and go for a better warranty with trusted manufacturers. Something changed with these machines a few years back and I should have heeded the warning.

If you turn the dial counterclockwise even a little bit to line up with one of the heat settings it will break the timer and a new one has to be ordered/installed. Alliance knows about the defect. If you inadvertently moved dial left (i.e. counterclockwise) to line up setting tick mark the timer does not engage and it will run forever until you stop it. Mine has done this several times, last occurrence was 9 hours on high heat before I went into my laundry room to pull towels out.
Dial does not make a clicking sound as you turn it to the heat options (which are extremely close together). This makes it difficult to tell which setting the dial is actually pointing to. The dial wobbles so you are even less sure of the heat setting. All the heat settings are crammed together while cool down and extended tumble have lots of space.
In addition to that annoyance SQ adds a cool down to every cycle, you can't skip it. Let's say dryer has stopped, you open door to discover clothes still a tad damp, another few minutes should take care of that. Unless you stand there to stop it the machine will waste energy in another ~15 min cool down. There is no option to add extra heat without tumbling for ~20 minutes. Cool down is fine but don't force it on us with every cycle.

You can easily destroy a good washing machine within a year with such bad washing habits. Cold water and liquid detergent will leave a build up behind that is hard to remove. In the end you will have a stinky washer and stinky clothes. And use enough detergent, too much of it can be easily rinsed out. Not enough is harder to address. Washing with powder and in the warmest water possible is the only reason to get laundry really clean. Keep in mind that doing laundry is a process with four factors. Time x mechanical action (agitation) x temperature x chemical action (detergent). You are skimping on at least two of those while these machines are not known for their great mechanical action either. Also keep in mind, when your washer is not clean afterwards, your clothes aren’t either.

Before that happened I had to call my service guys as this machine likes to walk and many times it would have flashing lights that didn't have a specific code. We found rubber pads to put under the feet to stop it from walking and we put a electric strip behind the machine so I can flip a switch to turn it off and not unplug it to reset it. Mind you I've been doing laundry for over 30 years. I would not recommend a Speed Queen to anyone. My Whirlpool never did anything like this Speed Queen. Now, I will have to call the repair guys to fix this rubbing issue and not excited to see what this will cost.

We have a new set (Tr7 and Dr7 ) that are now two weeks old. Just an observation but I noticed your dryer doesn’t have a lint filter cover. If by chance you don’t have one that may be the reason for the major lint drag out. The part number is D510502W Lint filter cover. If you already have one … never mind.

Hmm...I will check to see if we are missing something! I just thought our cover is built in on the door but when you take clothes out the door is open. I will investigate!

It may have been an improvement they added to our model to correct the issue. If you google just the part number it will bring up several pics of what it looks like. It just sits on top of the lint screen. And as an experiment I took ours out and we got the same results as you … not cool.

Yes. It's an improvement with your model I think. While checking out those guards I read others with the same issue since the cover is built into the door

Both of our units are beasts … If you were to offer us anything out there we would buy these same units again. They do what they are told to do … the washer has from max heavy to delicate … cold ,warm or hot, soak, extra rinse, etc. The dryer … regular, heavy duty, permanent press, delicate, timed, quick dry … adjustable heat setting adjustable dryness, extended tumble, eco dry. Once you figure out your fav settings you can program them into the menu … Seven year warranty parts and labor. Go check them out at your local dealer … Think you will be very pleased … We definitely are.

Why were the existing washer and dryer replaced with a Speed Queen set? Because they broke and you wanted more dependable equipment? That is why we went with Speed Queen and for 6 years they have been good and still seem like new. I believe we have the lower model washer because it doesn't have a lid lock, instead if you lift the cover and it stops. I guess that model is better because there is no lid lock to break.
I installed a bookcase above our washer and dryer. It is similar to the one in this video except higher and without any doors. We put the liquid detergent on the bottom shelf with the spigot hanging off the edge. We then place our measuring cup below it and push the button to get some detergent.
Regarding the dryer lint. Ours came with a grate that sits on top of the lint filter preventing pickup of lint during clothes removal. But I have always removed the lint before the clothes so lifting the grate just adds an extra step. To remove the lint between the filter plastic and front I wipe it with the lint wad before I throw it away. I believe the lint filter design in superior because the lint falls into it unlike the type on the dryer top surface. We have dogs and our filter collects so much lint and hair it can sometimes be full proving it works well.
Our dryer gets really hot and drys the clothes quickly making them fluffy and fresh smelling. But my wife did a small load, dryed it too long, and it got so hot it blew the thermal fuse. They aren't hard to replace but you are out of business until it arrives. So I got a spare for when she does it again.
Do not use those awful "fabric softener" sheets when drying! Why after just cleaning your clothes would you rub nasty stinky chemicals on them? Because commercials told you to do it to be a good mother? Fear of static electricity? Stick to fabric softeners at the washing stage.

Secondly you've never said whether or not the repair costs and how much of them were covered under warranty or not.
