True, most people don't understand economics or how currencies are valued. The reality is that if people lose confidence in the government, investment will start flowing out of a country instead of in and that's very bad. You can't force people to invest in a country, you can only make it as attractive as possible. The market is just another way to say Investors. You're trying to appease investors so they will use their money to grow your countries economy. Even the USA has to appease the markets and they're very good at it. They attract vast investment and it benefits their people greatly.
Commerce should be taught from primary school level , it's super disturbing to find people in business who are super blank when it comes to financing , taxation, accounting etc , something must be done to the community at large to improve our level of financial literacy !

The way the johannesburg stock market is structured... Its fail us forever... Its structured on the concepts of supply and demand. The rand is said to be backed by gold, which is a strong commodity but the rand does not move on the same dorrction as gold
First time on this platform and wow, Thank you Mpho, Nice example about Singapore, give poor people a chance to earn a living... Create opportunities and close these gaps.
You are almost absolutely correct. The government must create an environment where the majority participates in and benefits from economic growth. How do you do that? Education, entrepeneurship, infrastructure. I support BBE-EE, but it must be tied to true qualification, and related grants must go to real, evaluated ventures with a 50%+ probability of success, with real consequence for squandering of funds. Is the Rand rated in a racist way? No. Socialism and communism have never worked. Singapore, Rwanda, Cuba, China, and Russia are all examples of the horrors of the Marxist system. Yet the EFF is Marxist communist. Yet the MK is socialist. For that matter, both the ANC and even DA are left of the world center. That Black South Africans seem to be most adhered to hard left socialism, which is natural... the poor tend to comprehend socialism in theory better than capitalism, then those who look for a secure environment will run from that paradigm. Centrists need to make sure that the benefits of capitalism indeed trickle down. Focus on investment in schools and the quality and motivations for education. Exhalt STEM studies. Award research grants for areas of science and humanities that will expand the economy and prepare for the perceivable future. Keep our smart students here, give them premium education, sponsor their research, and help them bring innovation to the world market... like other successful governments do. Be serious about South Africa's future. Solving urban crime is actually easy. It's being done now in El Salvador the same way it was done in NYC. Double double the municipal police. That is twice as many with twice the pay, sgrong training, instant dismissal for bribe taking, strict punishment with very strong penalties for police crimes, sneakers for walking the assigned beat, fines for quality if life crimes (i.e litering, public pissing, etc., arrests, detention and expidited processing for minor crimes, and improved detention facilities. Crime will drop and crack like an egg from a tall building. With this reduction of crime both large and small, and with the security of the clean environment, business and tourism will spring back to life and jobs will flourish, real estate prices will begin to soar, investment will return. Again, this is nothing untested or new. Just do it.
I am a South African. I hate the rand. Let us use a new currency. Banks are manipulating the rand and no one is being punished for that. Greece managed to do away with the euro. Why not us with the rand?
If we change the currency it will be even worse, they globe will not have confidence in it and if there is less demand for it, then it will depreciate and the value will weaken.

The economy has NOTHING to do with exchange market! If you want a productive economy, then you would invite long term investors, like Russia and China, which builds infrastructure. Singapore got their initial investments from tax dodgers from China and Indonesia.
Using the Singapore or even the South Korean examples of economic transformation needs to be understood from the perspective that those countries are inhabited by natives to those countries. Problem with South Africa is that the natives are treated as foreigners and the colonists treated as natives. Get your head around this to understand the depth of the problem.
The narrative that macro economic factors doesn't affect the poor is false. Low inflation and a stable Rand is the poor man's friend. Rich people's wealth is usually not held in the form of currency and high inflation makes them richer. The benefits of a weak Rand, such as cheaper exports etc. is wiped out by the higher cost of imports in this consumer economy. Those that have nothing have no recourse when their living expenses increase faster than their meager earnings. SARB's 'inflation targeting' policy has served all South Africans well for decades. To change it would be downright stupid.

Mpho, the strength of rand affects both the poor and the rich, if the rand losses it's value, the inflation will kick in and the buying power of the money in our possession losses it's value. So, we should care about the rand, both the poor and the rich.
Rand manipulation should be treated as such, don't allow so called "market" to dictate who should be power, we voted people not markets,
Black people were defeated hence they have no choice but to die pleasing those who won the country for themselves.
