      Bret isn't always asked about Goldberg though. Sometimes he brings him up on his own. I think sometimes it is a little tongue and cheek, though he means what he says, but Goldberg concussing him, is the 1 thing that Bret is willing to bring up, without being prompted. Even his of dissing Bischoff and Hogan, is a result of being asked about them every time.

    Brett's own brother Owen, widely considered to be one of the best (and safest) performers of his generation, nearly paralyzed Stone Cold Steve Austin with a botched piledriver. Austin's career ended early in large part to the effects of this incident. If someone as talented and experienced as Owen can do that, it can happen to anyone at anytime in this business. Funny, I don't recall Brett ever offering an opinion on that one.

    • @hectic105
      @hectic105 19 днів тому +8

      That’s because his brother died. Why in the bloody hell would you expect him to talk about that? If Austin held a grudge (which he did at the time, and justifiably so) that’s his right. Austin still got to wrestle for a few years and be the biggest wrestler on the planet. Bret only got to for a short period after and then that was it.
      Bret isn’t Owen. Bret NEVER hurt anyone else, especially after that person asked them not to do certain things. Goldberg got to wrestle for years and pick up massive pay checks for random appearances where he buries whoever. Bret didn’t get that, Bret instead got to experience losing a lot of people that were close to him (including Owen) all the while being injured to the point of having to give up his career. Why do some people, seemingly intentionally, get so bothered by the fact that he isn’t going to sugar coat his thoughts about it? Why is that SO bad?

    Vince and Co. were responsible for Owen’s death and even tried to sue Martha afterwards but Bret had no problem forgiving and working with Vince afterwards… why is Goldberg not allowed to be forgiven after apologizing for years.

    Bret also worked 9 more matches after he worked with Goldberg at Starrcade which may or may not have made any concussion worse than it was before hand.

    • @cryptocon.
      @cryptocon. 16 днів тому

      Wrestlers went to Hospital for concussions at the time. Jeff Jarett did on the night of Bret's last televised match... (Bret says he pretended that he wasn't hurt...)
      Bret wasn't the first or only one to have ever suffered such an injury; it didn't have to end his career... (He just needed to recover.)
      He actually says in his own book:

      “People with concussions are the last ones to figure out how badly hurt they are. I was more responsible than anyone for downplaying my condition to myself and everyone else. Somewhere inside me, a fearful voice cried out that I was seriously hurt, but that same voice warned me to quit listening to my brain because it was my brain itself that was damaged. So I let myself go on believing that the problem was a sore neck.”
      He did not hold Goldberg responsible; it never even crossed his mind... He knew Goldberg's experience, or lack thereof. He didn't feel like he was hurt by Goldberg during the match they had on the following night, on Nitro... He did however say that he struggled to get to his hotel room on the night of the PPV; following the match at Starrcade. Though he also said he continued to get hurt in the weeks that followed, and actually sustain another concussion, during his final match; once he was powerbombed by Sid Vicious, in where his vision filled with the silver color of solder (His own words)...

      So, He knew he was hurt, but hid it from everybody; never seeking medical attention, even though he knows he should have, and continued to wrestle for weeks, anyway (including/continuing to receive impactful chair shots, directly to the head, amongst other dangerous spots) and by coincidence, during a checkup on his neck: he was informed that he had suffered a severe concussion (So, effectively had ignored the concussion he felt he had sustained from the powerbomb, meaning he probably would still have continued wrestling, regardless; if not for the diagnosis received during that checkup, after the powerbomb)... So... Yeah... Revisionist Historian is where the Hart is...

  • @oceandeep318
    @oceandeep318 5 днів тому +1

    I need to mention a couple of things here. Bret has extensively talked about it. Apparently, Conrad and Bischoff are not prepared when they talk. Bret had received three blows during that match.
    1. A forearm smash that was too stiff and hurt Bret in the head. According to Bret, Goldberg himself said "sorry" right away.
    2. The Figure Four around the ringpost (which Bischoff mentions), where Bret landed hard on his head. But what Bischoff missed out, is that it was Goldberg's fault too. He was not cooperating, he was supposed to grab Bret's foot but he didn't to soften the landing. And he should have been much closer to the ringpost but he wasn't moving when Bret was trying to pull him closer. Again Goldberg's fault.
    3. Then came the kick, which Goldberg couldn't measure how to hit. The kick should not have connected the way it did. You can see how Bret's head snapped with the kick, this is not normal.
    See an analysis by Stevie Richards about these two spots. It's very accurate and good.
    And then to say, that it was as much Bret's fault as it was Bill's is not fair. If you say that it was 10% Bret's fault that he tried the Figure Four spot which was a risk with Goldberg, okay. If you say, Bret should have ran a little slower before the kick to have more time and reduce the impact, okay. But to say the fault is 50/50 on Bret's and Bill's part, is completely unfair.
    The thing is, it's a main event match on the biggest night of the year. It's Starrcade 99 main event! If you don't deliver your best spots in this match, when are you going to do that?

  • @JoeGamer81
    @JoeGamer81 19 днів тому +14

    I’ve been saying for years that the kick wasn’t where he got the concussion. If he was concussed in that match, it was either the shoulder block he took too hard, or the corner spot outside the ring.
    Moreover, even if all three spots concussed him, it wasn’t specifically those spots, or one concussion that did it. It was the culmination of a lifetime of concussions. It’s like when you throw your back out picking up a quarter; it wasn’t THAT particular move that did it, it was just the last thing you did before the already weak ligament or muscle finally went.
    Bret says it’s the kick because the kick is Goldberg’s fault. It was high and actually landed. The corner spot was at least partly Bret’s fault, same for the shoulder. He blames the kick so he can put 100% of the blame on Goldberg.

    Brett is supposed to be quarterbacking that match with somebody as green as Goldberg. How come he takes no responsibility for
    Calling Bill off? I agree with Eric that Brett is hitting his head while attempting to figure 4 leg lock on Bill around the corner post, could have been what injured his brain more so then Bill kicking Brett square in his hands before it hit his face. The “who killed WCW“ video really slowed it down and showed it from the best angle I’ve seen to date, really showcasing. Brett had his hands up, buffering the majority of that kick. The other part of the story that nobody talks about is that Bill has been throwing that kick at this point in time in his WCW run, in every match just about and he’s never layed anybody else out with it. Lastly, Brett went onto Russell either seven or nine more matches after this Goldberg kick one of them being a hard-core match, etc. To keep bitching about it 24 years later anytime anybody interviews you, is annoying. He should be talking about how insanely impactful his career was to really be one of the pioneers along with Sean Michaels in making WWF/Wwe make an about face, and no longer just choosing the Giants/bodyguards, as the world champions/main inventors. Or maybe talking about his incredibly successful run. There’s so much positivity he could be talking about. But instead, he just loves Barry and Goldberg. Every chance he gets, and surprisingly enough, I’m actually Goldberg on this. Stop bitching about it. It’s literally been a quarter of a century!! And I still don’t think that kick is what did it. Go back and watch it for yourselves and slow motion guys and zoom in with your cameras if you could. The minute Goldberg called that spot, and Brett being such a student of the game, he has seen Bill throw that kick thousands of other times I’m assuming. If he was worried about him being unsafe, why on God’s green earth would he allow Bill to call any spot whatsoever in that match The answer is you don’t! You literally call your opponents offense when there’s that big of a discrepancy between experience levels like a Brett Hart, who is the ultimate ring general versus a greener than goose shit, Bill Goldberg. But of course Brett takes responsibility in leading that match.

    It's called sports entertainment but these men have gone through rigorous training and working out, and while meticulously choreographed matches, accidents happen. This is a sport, the punishment every man takes on the ring is real enough. How many other wrestlers retired early due to serious injuries? Brett is a legend, and he never let's go of his 30yrs grievances! Whether he's blaming Eric for his unexciting entrance to the WCW or the million Goldberg complaints, he has ruined his own legacy. You don't see or hear every wrestler spreading the only negative things in their career. His father would be ashamed.

    I really like Bret Hart as a wrestler and was glad I got to meet him in person. He's a great talent and I love to listen to him talk about his career and the glory days of wrestling. However, Bret's got flaws just like we all do. For Bret, he's bad about holding grudges. Goldberg has apologized religiously about kicking Bret in the head yet Bret can't forgive. It's wrestling and injures happen. Bret's gotta learn to let it go and move on. I've met Goldberg too and he's a super nice guy. Life is too short to hold onto anger and bitterness.

    Shocking that he had 9 other matches. We never hear that part!

    Goldberg has apologised multiple times what else can he do? Bret needs to get over it and accept what happened. It’s been over 20 plus years now come on.
