      @@jaythor70 Bruh, wrestling history. This was during the 83 consecutive weeks that WCW beat WWF in the ratings war. Earlier in 97' Vince almost had to close the doors of the WWF, because of the beatdown they were taking. More eyes were on that Live Monday Nitro that night, than on a taped Raw. But Eric has a point there. The safety of the wrestler always comes first before anything. There is something odd about the stunt, that Vince wanted a "quick release" on the hook to make it look more "authentic". I don't buy that. I believe Owen was murdered. I believe Vince wanted him dead because he injured his money making star (Steve Austin) and was not on board with the sleezey storylines at the time.
      Owen's death was so avoidable. If Vince actually gave a damn about Owen, he would be alive today. But Vince wanted in some way to punish Owen.

      @owainkanaway8345 listen, the way vince handled that was disgusting and honestly borderline criminal, but to make it something it's not and call it murder without hard evidence is also gross. It's trying to change the narrative about a man who's family is still grieving, mourning, and will be in pain for the rest of their lives, it's not a topic that merits baseless speculation.
      I think vince should've been taken to court for reckless endangerment, lack of safety regulations, etc. But unless there's a hard fact showing it's malice instead of incompetence, then it's insulting to Owen and the Hart family to baselessly speculate on it.

But it was to hide the harness. I think they did just enough with Sting coming down, or to the ring at the end of the show, and cut it off when they needed. I hated when Luger and Sting went NWO. Wolfpac was cool, but those guys were WCW through all of that, just to join for no good reason. They did not do enough Red VS black and that finger poke of doom, was it for me. @@MrBeckenhimself It would have helped a bit if you'd put his name, Masahiro Chono. From the video of it, Austin was definitely at fault there. Set up perfectly for a tombstone, but does a sit out piledrive and spikes his head. Googling seems to say that it was reported as a stinger at the time but found to be broken later, unlike Austin's that was reported as broken initially (and still is) but was actually swelling of the cervical lining of the spinal cord causing something like stenosis.
      As for why it gets a pass? Most US wrestling fans don't care about or know about Japanese wrestling, so never heard about it.
      Doesn't change that Owen botched it multiple times without really apologizing for it though, which was my whole comment, but it does make Austin a hypocrit.

Hell, they had Bret doing vignettes talking crap about Hogan and the NWO right up until his heel turn where he joined Hogan. The really had no plan for Bret. Plus it doesn’t help that Goldberg was getting hotter by the day and DDP was still hot. The face side in WCW had so many strong challengers to Hogan in 1998 that Bret would have gotten lost in the shuffle no matter what.

    Im sorry, but im not buying that had Owen's accident not happened that Bret would have been anything more or less than the Bret we know. If the argument is that Owen being in WCW would have changed Bret in WCW then I can see that. But for 30 yrs Bret has proven to be miserable and bitter. Everything that he doesnt like about his career is someone elses fault. He has this self grandizing opinion of himself and is second only to Lebron James when it concerns how they see their own legacy. Everyone loved and repsected Owen. His one mistake was a piledriver that shortened the career of the biggest superstar in the history of the business. But no one had anything bad to say about Owen...and Bret was jelous. Bret was jelous of Owen's talent, likable personality and the respect he had from the lockerroom.

He never wanted to leave he was forced out which was bad enough but to have the screw Job happen when legally he has creative control over how he would leave of course he would be bitter. The thing is if Owen lives Bret still has the guy who brought joy to his life around and probably isn't as obsessed with everything that went wrong. I mean if you think about it all this stuff happened within a 3 to 5-year span. It's actually amazing that Bret is still around after all that a lot of people couldn't have taken what he took

    • @hectic105
      @hectic105 2 місяці тому +3

      Either you’ve never had a sibling or your sibling is an awful human being. Because the sheer inability to empathize with what someone would feel had they lost a sibling in the manner that Bret did speaks VOLUMES about yourself.
      Would his WCW run have been better had Owen come with him? Hard to say. But after that happened there was a VERY clear and understandable change in attitude from Bret. That attitude change affected everything. It wouldn’t have saved him from the booking, but having Owen there may have made for a better environment and not had him have to deal with his sudden death.
      Oh, and Bret gets to talk like he was one of the best ever because it’s true, and if he doesn’t want to sugarcoat his opinions of certain people, then so what? He got screwed over by his long time boss, lost his brother to that company that screwed him, and then lost his career and all of the opportunities he could have still had by a reckless wrestler with little training. All in the span of like, 2 years. If you aren’t mad or bitter about any of that, then I question if you’re a human or a robot.
