I work with (older) children, sometimes I talk with teachers about their experiences and for advice. One thing that stuck with me: if you tell a child to point out the parent that "they love more", they will actually point out the parent they need to be loved more by - love, to a child, means giving to them what they need to grow and survive. When there are concerns about neglect or harmful parenting, this can be a clue of whom to keep an eye on.
From my limited knowledge, when a very young kid lives in a abusive household, and doesn't know what a healthy parent-child relationship is supposed to be like, they have more chance of having an affection for a abusive parent... Rest and n peace ron.
The fact that you play as the son leads me to believe that his rotting corpse has been unknowingly haunting his dad everywhere he goes for past 14 days
@@thesenate5291yep, and that was the only time the mother slept in the same room with her son, and he’s only visible to her at night. So, while on Ron’s end he was still fast asleep, his mother saw no kid where there should be and hastily checked his hiding spot for the past 14 days; the closet in her room. When he wasn’t there? Checked the closet in his room to find out the horrible truth. Ron has no sign of his mother because she’s at the police station by the time he wakes up on his end So sad and horrifying to think that if she didn’t have him sleep in her room that night, that she wouldn’t have noticed until the smell of his rotting corpse became too prominent to ignore
✨Thank you for playing my game, and also to everyone who has left a review here. I'm glad that people actually like this game and look forward to the sequel. I'm currently in the development stage for story #2 and my goal is to release it by the end of this year. The plot will revolve around a completely new character and will have nothing to do with the old one! Stay tuned!
The one specific thing i love about this game is the footsteps. How absolutely loud they are, in such a quiet house. I remember trying to make my footsteps as quiet as possible, so i could sneak off without being heard, but they were always a little too loud. It was just something i couldn’t shake the entire game
as a child that used to be hit frequently and needed to sneak around quietly as well, i cant walk loudly if I wanted to. This game definitely does a great job at portraying it! The footsteps are always too loud.
or he knew, just didnt want to spoil it for those who didnt... either way i thought the doll was a voodoo doll (impacting the person so if the head gets removed you can probably imagine what would happen to the person the doll resembles)
@@anapple6912 I don't think the doll is a voodoo. We very clearly see that dad that snaps the neck and the doll gets pretty destroyed while Ron keeps being normal. I think that the doll is a representation of the real Ron, as well as of course his knowing side.
I find it just so sad about how confident the kid seems, even with all the abuse. A tough cookie. He didn't cry when his mom disappeared nor when he found his own body, just seemed disappointed about his mom and in shock when he realized he's dead.
Kids who are neglected in real life tend to be more independent and try to take care of themselves more or act like parents to their younger siblings. Atleast from what I've read.
@@Hips.oo8 yep, an abusive home life forces a kid to skip childhood because they have to learn how to take care of themselves/their sibling(s)/their parent(s) early on. they might also seem more superficially mature as a result of being scared to express their thoughts and feelings, but unfortunately it's a warning sign that never gets brought up because it doesn't inconvenience others, especially at school, so it just gets written off as the kid being well-mannered.
So when the dad was saying “please don’t punish me” while laying down it was the reflection to the real world of him having hallucinations after murdering the son
@@hammerger2224 evidently, the father has seen the son's spirit every time the son goes through a cycle. The father has been haunted the past 14 days.
This game reminds me of Little Misfortune, how it follows the fantastical journey of a child learning to accept their own death, guided by some mystical and benevolent force
Seeing this from the mom's perspective, she wasn't necessarily a bad parent but it's clear that she had been neglectful to her son whether it had been intentional or not. Especially by leaving him alone all day with his deadbeat dad. The one moment that she finally decided that enough was enough and wanted a divorce, she made the mistake to leave her son that night in the same roof with him after such a heated argument. And now the guilt of what happened would probably haunt her for the rest of her life. Really sad.
Maybe she tought that he had fled away with the kid, like sometimes happens and was sad but hoped they will come back sometime later and that led to her spenfing 14 days thinking her son was with the dad and when she founds out the body she realizes and hits her with the "he wasnt with him, he is dead"
@@xaviercardenas7178 she was clearly not neglectful-- just ensuring her child was able to eat and have a roof over his head. Should she have left the dad sooner? Sure. But that can be said of literally every domestic abuse situation. It's definitely complicated, but she is clearly a victim of her husband rather than a perpetrator of abuse herself.
@@spencerlively3049 late nights? Affair? Idk seems kind of convenient to blame work but victims need escape unfortunately the child didn’t have one of their own
Remember the eternal saying: All children deserve parents, but not all parents deserve children. Edit: How some of you guys don’t get that the point of the quote is that children should have parents that actually care for them and allow them to be kids is kind of criminal.
Agreed. At first I felt like the pacing was really fast for how I thought the game was gonna go, but the way it explained everything at the end and connected it all was well done
Really dang that’s good creator amazing game it really shows how a child thinks and copes with such difficulties I unfortunately can relate long story I don’t feel like explaining it again but it’s kinda sad knowing many children still liv like that😢
I think I've noticed that Manly most often puts "disturbing" in the title of videos where children or youths are shown in abusive or predatory situations; he's always taken that subject pretty seriously. Being a defenseless young child at the mercy of a monster when you barely understand how the world or adults work is, indeed, perhaps some of the most disturbing horror.
@@violetamet I've always got the impression that Manly's got a good heart, and it seems that these situations genuinely disturb him. I remember some side-scrolling russian game I think where it's a girl walking home from school, gets picked up by a predator, and I don't think Manly talked for a good five minutes at all.
@@MrEvan312 yeah I definitely watched something like that some time ago, and took me by surprise too. I think that's when I sorta noticed a pattern about him titling some of his videos with that word. While I can't handle that subject often, I do respect Manly doing that. Iirc, that one had animal masks or animal themed for humans, and it was... Shocking to say the least. Update: it's Parasite Flower.
The end of the game is not sad... The whole game is sad. The ending makes it a little bit happier by the resolution of punishing the father with jail, and the son resting in peace and having friends that understand him.
As much as I hate to admit it, there have been real life cases where one of the parents will murder their children in cold blood as a final “f*** you” to their partner for wanting a divorce. One of the biggest examples that comes to mind is the infamous Worley family tragedy that went viral on Reddit.
As much as I hate to admit it, these kinds of tragedies do happen in real life, with one parent murdering their children in cold blood just to spite their partner. 😔
You know... it makes sense that the places where the kid sees Mom and Dad are untextured, as these are places this kid has most likely never seen, so he can only really make out what he does know. His parents.
This is depressing. Especially for the other kids that Ron encountered. My heart goes to everyone who has been abused during their childhood. I hope you guys get the help you needed.
@@cheesyborgor8394 no that's proper discipline. Only you w*sterns think it's abuse. Every child should get that treatment. It teaches them how to be selfless, not weak and soft like others who are spoiled.

holy sh*t bro I ugly cried, the story is so dark and deep. The game really makes you feel like you're the child in the game, and you feel his emotions. It's a sad dark truth, it breaks my heart even if it's a game.
Same i felt it all, just how he made upp stories and how he just tried to adapt to such harsh conditions, usually abused kids think their a burden and that’s why they don’t ask for help or support i know from personal experience, its okay to cry such things are terrifying fr
As someone with childhood trauma, the game emulated the fear of abuse REALLY well. The sudden scares that come out of nowhere made me hypervigilant while watching this to prevent myself from being caught off-guard ... which is what children are forced to do in these environments ... which unfortunately leads many to grow up into anxious, paranoid, self-destructing adults like the father. The intergenerational cycle of abuse is real, and it is incumbent upon the children who survived to break the cycle -- which isn't fair, but it is necessary. Not to mention the child's denial that their father could do such a thing (which is why they get stuck in the loop). Aside from the murder, traumatic experiences like this are often difficult to escape from replaying over and over. Often to try to get the trauma to make sense -- to reconcile our rational mind with our betrayed inner child. Anyways, good game.
fr!! especially the scene with the dad at 1:53 perfectly encapsulates how scary it felt as a child when a parent would be mad at something else but then turn their anger on you, the traumatic events replaying in your mind over and over again, the denial, the imaginary friends that make the experience feel less isolating... the game does an amazing job at showing how these environments actually look and feel from the perspective of a child. awesome game!!
Hey I’m sorry I know that this is kind of uncalled for but do you know how to support a friend in that situation when they don’t seem to want to accept help? I mean she says that she’s fine but I can see it affects her a lot and I don’t know how to help. She’s kind of starting to talk back to her mom a bit so that’s good but idk she still seems like she has generally REALLY low self esteem? And the worst part about it is that our parents are all friends with eachother and my parents are so flipping gullible it’s insane. Like I get that they’ve known her mom for a really long time but everything is so flipping obvious. And because of this her mom acts really “nice and friendly 🥹🥹🥹” around me but she’s just such a jerk but yk what the heck can I do about it??? I don’t want to make it worse. Anyway she kind of stopped telling me stuff about her parents and I don't know why. I think she thinks that she’s bothering me or something. Idk bro I’m just really really worried about her. And if you don’t have anything that’s fine lol sorry

As that friend, thanks for being our friend. I know it's kind of a burden but you really do help in ways you may not even understand and I guarantee we'll always remember you no matter how long it's been.
This game was terrifying to me, this kind of horror isn't something really necessarily fake and "ooooo spooky killer" no, this game talks about a horrible real topic of some kids being mistreated in this world and the red face is pretty much either an implication of weird predators or/and adults mistreating children which is really sad. It was.. disturbing, so disturbing to me I had to leave the video 3 TIMES TO GET PASS THIS
I think the "red face" name is playing on common tragedy of a parent getting abusive when drunk. Drinking alcohol can cause the face to turn red. Especially with liver disfunction. Alcohol is metabolized in two stages, first into Acetaldehyde, then into Acetate. Acetate is easily disposed. Acetaldehyde can build up in the body when the liver is overloaded with alcohol and it is toxic (binds to enzymes, microsomal proteins, microtubules, etc. causing cell & tissue damage). This causes a histamine release, the same thing that happens when you get slapped; the skin turns red.
This is just straight-up sad if you think about it. Children have high imaginations, and even if their parents are doing bad things to them, they still consider it as a good thing, showing just how messed up a child can be growing up with that kind of parent. They're too innocent for this world, yet those who grow up with this kind of parents are forced to see the reality of the world at such a young age.
That’s actually right children do indeed have high imaginations and it’s unfortunate that for some kids including me and many others it was their downfall,a disadvantage but that’s the human mind awesome especially at a young age to imagine stuff and learn effectively this is indeed heartbreaking
yeah… although I’d recognize whether the mother stayed or left the child would’ve suffered regardless. Her leaving caused the loss of her child, which to any (sane) parent, is a heart-wrenching tragedy. From personal experience, a mother would rather stay than put her children through worse than what COULD be.
@@lombardi4 I’d argue yeah, not the kid. He’s free of pain, in peace and has friends. His mom has to live with what happened. Stop labeling any support for women as simping, so childish
@@lombardi4 You heard it here folks, having empathy for a character who’s going through something awful, who just so happens to be a woman, qualifies as simping
Child trauma therapist here. Damn. I've counseled folks like the mom in these kinds of situations, and worked with plenty of kids who have endured similar lives (either minus the death, or the death was a sibling). This is a strikingly? Horrifyingly? Eerily? accurate representation of the experiences/feelings within this kind of world. I am rarely genuinely horrified by this topic due to how frequently I am exposed to it, but 23:44 man. That got me enough that I went up and checked on my own sleeping children. It's good reminder of how important it is to always protect them.
I'm gonna be honest with you. This game made me cry, especially in the end, with all the kids just sitting around having a grand with each other, knowing their terrible fate
same, not really reaching the point of crying but my eyes teared a bit. the scene where they took the kid's body in the room where the mother were crying next to him kinda hits me hard. reminded me of my father, he was sick but he died at home on his bed while i was looking at him, then when my relative heard the news they came to our house and they took my father to the hospital after me and my family said the final goodbye to him.
Unfortunately there's more to it than that. Hard to be loved, and love back in a genuine manner when you have never been genuinely loved. Every relationship, another facade.
despite this being a rather common and cliche storytelling prompt, god was it done in such a way where i genuinely felt anxiety even with the jumpscares aside, execution was absolutely incredible. i could see a lot of the foreshadowing from a mile away (“red face” being the drunken father, the kid dying from being strangled etc) but the game told it in a way where i was still on edge and i think most of it could be handed to the general creation of the environment/effects as well as seemingly irrelevant details. the grainy green-yellow tint and the stop motion like movements of all the characters as well as the general stasis really felt like i was going through someone’s memories where certain aspects weren’t fully filled in. something that caught my eye immediately about this game was the layout. at first glance, it’s super simple and uninteresting: that within itself could also be related to the fact it is a memory we’re going through and people, particularly those who are abused/traumatized in some way, are more likely to remember very specific moments (and in this case places/objects) since they’re directly tied to an event that’s stuck with them. aside from that, the game made everything look so unusually big. granted, that’s also because the character is a child and therefore very short, but even so, it mirrored how children and even adults tend to visualise things. the loud footsteps are somehow meant to illustrate how children feel in real abusive situations, where everything is so much louder than it actually is because it’s both a survival instinct/conditioned fear response (you don’t want to be too loud in fear your abuser will hear you and hurt you). the imagery of the dad going through heavy guilt after murdering his own child to the point he suffered from hallucinations was horrific, it’s clear he didn’t blame his son for anything, his brain can only remember his son’s innocence and the final look on his face as he locked him in a closet. the portrayal of the mother also stuck with me, the fact she was ultimately trying her best for a baby she clearly loved and for that to have been spat back in her face by an abusive husband is so heartbreaking. not to even mention the whole idea of the “cycle” and a child’s innocent refusal to put fault on their parent’s despite knowing they hurt him. even early on, the child is meek and shy, refusing to acknowledge his father being a “bad person”, growing increasingly quieter when the cat asked for more direct specifics on the description of his father. he’s scared to say anything because it’s his father, he’s meant to love him, and he does. it’s that young naivety that makes children both so special and sweet, and so tragically vulnerable to people who are broken. and wow i didn’t expect this to get so long lol, i have even more to add but this has gotten long enough 😭
Well explained you really explained my childhood nicely almost like you could feel what I felt now of course you forgot some key things but it’s still very good I admire it take care❤
I like the detail that the form of teleportation for each kid is in the form that they were left dead, as can be seen here 13:11 They appear out of nowhere yet it makes sense, the kid in the car was either killed then stuffed into the trunk, or left to die inside of it, the second one was either burned alive or tossed into the fire to hide the evidence, and the third was killed then tossed into the grave or just buried alive. The reason I gave to possibilities for each one is that the main character was choked in the air, yet still teleports through closets. So it’s safe to assume that the form of travel isn’t based on where or how you were killed, but rather where your body was afterwards in an attempt to hide it. But man this game gave me hella creeps and kept me shivering almost the whole way through, even though I’m only watching a video about it.
I noticed there seemed to be what looked like blood marks all over the child that was burried. Could well be the babygrow or clothes the child was wearing but it made me instantly think the child may have been mutilated. The child in the trunk and the one we play as also has discloration in the skin so it also leads me to think the child in the trunk must have also asphyxiated but due to the low oxygen levels of being left in the back of the trunk. Really sad about neglect and abuse but was so well done. It's kinda messed up also to think that some of us may kind of relate to or see a resemblance in the character's childhood.
My guess about the child in the car is that they were a baby locked in a hot car. Then hidden in the trunk. Their skin is red. Kid on the fire may have been a child who died during a purposely set house fire. And child in the shallow grave was murdered and buried.
It makes sense, but that leaves me wondering what would happen if the kid's body got eaten by an animal, would they come out of the animal's mouth or what?
4:40 Hits harder after you’ve already seen the whole game. Even in death, a part of him still denies his father is a completely bad person. He writes them off as mistakes, like most children would think. Not to mention the fact that his neck getting snapped was the “least” awful thing that could’ve happened to him compared to the other children. This game is so sad, but I’m glad there was at least justice served by the end of it.
7:19 Watching this with the context makes so much more sense. The reason the food comes back after being eaten is because the dad is eating it, it was supposed to be for Ron so he replaces it, then he drinks the bottle which is what we see towards the end of the game.
23:19 no horror movie, no horror game, no horror novel, will ever bring me the terror, shock, and sadness I felt in this moment. Never has horror of any sort made me gag out of genuine shock before.
26:55 - she *DID* stay home to help her son!! the doll said "because she's only home late at night", but she stayed home that next day oh that's tragic... I think I'm going to cry 28:49 - the mom was neglectful, but for what little it's worth, she did care about Son
This seems to be a single income household. The dad didn't bother to get a job, it seems. And with him burning through money to drink alcohol constantly, she had no choice but to work long hours.
Yea I think you're right! After she had stormed off it didn't seem as if she would come back that night but she probably did after the son had already been killed and hidden in the closet 😢
she was neglectful but i really doubt she had a choice. her husband leeched off of her, she was basically a single mom providing for her kid + this drunk man. i feel really bad for her even though shes not real
17:29 “Hey, what’s up. I’m a jumpscare.” is a line that should absolutely be in one of these horror games. Hopefully voiced in exactly the same casual tone that Manly used.
This game really makes me appreciate how lucky I am to have loving parents. I’m so sorry to anyone out there who had a neglected or abusive childhood and I hope you get the help you need ☹️💔

BAWLING MY EYES OUT CHOKING WRITING THIS. nothing hurts more than seeing all of the children in this game so blissfully clueless and so innocent at heart. i was never abused so much but i have a very soft spot for kids who are mistreated while they're so young and childish. it's their formative years, the best they'll get in their life, you cannot do this to them, and it's why i'm CRYING LIKE A BABY RN

I like how the filler of this game makes it seem like you are trying to remember a childhood memory meanwhile everything feels large just like how it did when you were a kid
Yk, obviously the dad was bad, but that mom acted a lot like my mother when we were in a rough spot. Clearly stressed but still loved and cared for me. I was lucky enough where my dad ran for the hills at my birth so at least I didn't have to experience his evilness. I'm glad to say me and my mother made it through the hard times comfortably and now live well.
@@GhostelFaceMan What's funny is my dad tried to do that when I was born lol but my mom told him to get his ass to the hospital since I was his kid too. Kinda wish she just let him go, but at the same time it's admirable of her to remind him that he had a role in the family too.
My dad killed himself when I was 3 so I don't remember anything about him, mom was poor and never had a good childhood herself so she was checked out by the time I was conscious. @@Jesse-wn6jd I'm sorry to hear that man. I went through some of your struggles too and im always trying to think right about things. I've always told myself that another day is 1 more day closer to the next and that into the soon next week, month and so on as a means of reminding myself of the bigger picture and reality of it all as I often find myself getting caught up too much in things that are too mundane to be crying over. I hope your life as well has turned over and I wish you the best friend.
It's terrible how this pretty much sums up my childhood... Until I was 9, I lived with my father who was extremely abusive towards my mom and I, both physically and verbally. Granted, I'm still alive. But just like the mom in the game, my mom swore she would get me and her out of there and away from him, and she tired endlessly to achieve that. To think that this is what could've happened if we'd stayed with him any longer sends actual chills down my spine... I'm seriously lucky to still be alive. I hate my father. And I used to hate myself because I have the same hair and eyes as him; it just made me look more like him. And I'm constantly scared of behaving and reacting like he did, such as when I'm angry or if I ever decide to drink for the first time. But over time, despite me always saying that I hope he's either dead or rotting in prison, I've realized he was probably just as broken as me. No one is perfect. We're no exceptions. I'll never forgive him for what he did, and I hope he's been rightfully punished. But I hope that if he isn't dead, that he finally decides one day to change himself for the better.
I’m so sorry about your dad, it’s really sickening how this can happen so easily and so occasionally. It’s a good thing you’re still alive, but that’s absolutely horrible to hear. At the raw age of nine too is just disgusting. Hopefully you’re feeling better about it now though :)
@@Gigi_Axolotl It got a lot better until some stuff started happening between my mom and I, but that was just the usual "your daughter's growing up and you can't accept it" sort of thing 😅 We're okay otherwise. But what's sad is that after I moved to another state to live with my friend, her little sister just recently had her friend over for a few days. She's 9 as well and is dealing with the same issue as my mom and I did. Her mom told her dad to leave but he refuses, so she'd asked my friend's mom if her daughter could stay over for a few days to get her away from her father. I just hope they're as lucky as my mom and I were. Keep your fingers crossed for them, if you don't mind?
oh my GOD okay the foreshadowing that we keep picking up is CRAZY. first of all the doll having a loose head representing his corpse, mr 'red face' representing the drunk father, the meds at the start that we don't take, the 'red face' sections where it's vaguely showing the results of his death, the spell card that was meant to defeat mr. redface being the motel buisness card (evidence BOMBSHELL), that scene where redface is beating up the doll literally just being the son's death again, the kids being others who were probably killed by their parents and are thrown into the loop too,,,WOW. WOw. its all just strung together so nicely and yes while i agree with the end where you say it's kind of a common topic for psychological horror its just done so well in a way where it DIFFERENT and i love it. id personally rate this a 9.5/10 only .5 off for lack of explanation for the kids at the end but overall AMAZING WOW GOLD TROPHY I AM ON MY KNEES PRAISING WHOEVER MADE THIS

this really was a beautiful game. the way it depicts how children can process trauma and the common story that a lot of people in abusive families can relate to was so smart. to help draw the connections between a child's imaginative way of coping and the real world was so smartly done because it shows we can't discredit kids, even if their story sounds off. and to have the children sit and play and exist together at the end as a group of healed spirits was so heartwarming, especially because they were happy to wait for when ron was ready to move on.
Wow what a wonderfully sad story.. I teared up at the part where the doll said the boy kept making up stories to make him feel better about his dad, and ended up crying at the "spell" being the hotel card the boy's ghost helped to defeat his killer. What a great build-up and well timed climax at the end. I was not expecting the story to be as good as it was going into this video. 10/10
Incredible props to the developer, this is legitimately one of the best stories I've ever seen. I was expecting something mindless to watch in the background, but I was 100% glued to the screen and lost all sense of time. The plot and graphics were primally disturbing in a way that puts a knot in your chest.
That art style... I was instantly terrified. Excellent job. I'm certain the Coraline vibes are intentional. Aaand after reaching the end: yes. This was very effective horror. Nothing on a screen makes me scared but these parents really gripped my freaking heart. And yes, the plot is fairly common and it was obvious what Red Face symbolised, but I don't know - I liked this, and I think it's because of the doll. He was a real bro. I'm glad he persisted and finally got through, even though we inadvertently hurt him so much. I would actually like to see more in this universe. Maybe we can start leading the other kids and eventually help them move on.
3:06 "This song is a cliche" Of course you gonna hear song here, it's a lullaby! What else would you expect to hear instead, "When saints go marching in?"
LMAO tbh, my view on it as that the loud footsteps are somehow meant to illustrate how children feel in real abusive situations, where everything is so much louder than it actually is because it’s both a survival instinct/conditioned fear response.
@@xianlotusThis is an insightful and highly likely theory. At first I thought it was just unnecessarily loud and weird to add to the horror ambiance but as the story came together, the details made sense.
It was a little wordy at the end, but I do enjoy the "eyes of a child" creativity behind this. The Paranormal aspect behind this was also a cool touch that leaves a lot of chances for fresh scenarios and story elements.
Egad, just realized the jump scare at 16:30 is a flashback to the moment the dad chokes Ron and breaks his neck, from a first-person view. It’s why the doll is floating mid-air, as the dad choked him in the air until Ron’s neck snapped. It’s why Ron suddenly falls to the ground.

It's a small comfort that the father got arrested, but it's better than if he got away, and he has to deal with the guilt from that for the rest of his life. The poor mom gets some justice, but sadly it won't bring her child back. Like I said, bittersweet, but well done.
It’s why sometimes we can’t handle the silence or idleness of the quarantine because we are forced to confront the things we shove in the back of our mind. It’s good he got locked up in that tiny cell with nothing but a bed and a toilet so he has no escape from his own mind
Very sad very beautiful and the music really touches your soul Its old music you usually have heard as a kid and now seeing it used in a very dark story in which the main character is also a kid gets you a really weird feeling
Realizing that all the other kids at the end were put through similar situations and they’re all just trying to cope with it made my jaw drop and broke my heart
I actually cried after watching this, the end where kids are smiling it just kept telling me kids are just pure and lovely, they shouldn’t deserve these. And I could tell these happens irl
Do you think maybe the food reappearing was some sort of reference to what the dad did after abusing the son? Like hear me out, after he’d hit the son he’d feed him his favorite food as some sorta apology, to relieve his conscious. Perhaps it’s what he did after he sobered up? Idk
Games like this are shock therapy. The fact that a person has pushed his pain deep down and is trying to forget about it doesn't mean that his wound has stopped bleeding. All this must be remembered, but as a accomplish fait without any sorrow - then healing occurs.
this video actually made me cry at the last few minutes of the video, as this has been my reality for the last 10 years.. seeing the mom find her childs decomposing corpse in the closet and break down crying reminded me way too much of the stuff I used to warn my mom of and beg her to leave my dad, the way i feel about my dad is finally getting to that age where he's too weak to physically harm us like he used to is so relieving.

@@FatalAlcatrazgood observation skills not many people talk about how unfair and how demanding parents can be my real parent’s are from Iraq and I can unfortunately relate to this kid’s perspective it just breaks my heart 💔
All these perfect tie-ins (& direct foreshadowings essentially) is exactly what good storytelling is about; took a while to exactly understand (especially with the seemingly convoluted & random midsection, though it all came together in the end - wrapped with a nice little bow & all), but loved it nonetheless. All that making the rewatch value absolutely INSANE. Plus, the art direction is perfect for such a story - the designs, graphics, colors, movement, slight overlay, etc.
Never has a game left me as shocked, stunned, and saddened as when the father was walking down the hall then to hear cry's of a child only to finally hear a loud snap to end it. I usually have pretty thick skin and can handle some dark stuff but this was so real and so engraved in reality I had to pause the video for a second I even gagged a few times. The game creator has an incredible talent for creating reality in fiction I don't think I've ever witnessed something so real that looked so fake, it was quick, cruel, and heartless and like real deaths as quick as it was it lasted much longer from putting you in a state of shock for a moment. Again I truly can not commemorate the creator enough. You have truly created horror and not only that successful used a more grounded and considered edgy topic and not only showed it in the most real and grounded cruel way but also worked with it so it didn't come off as offensive or just being edgy for the sake of edgy. I don't think I've ever seen a better horror game then this at least in the catagory of truly leaving the player stunned and shocked.
I noticed something about the other kids. The young lad was in the fire. The baby was in the car, and the toddler was in a hole... post video clarity shows the symbolism there
Damn, that plot twist. I love how the story was drafted and always throwing a curve ball at you. Really kept you guessing until the very end of the game.
Very very clever little things with the storytelling. Nothing *new* per sé, this is all well-trodden territory, but it was still done with a masterful stroke, from an artist that was dedicated to telling this story in a way that felt tragic like a Brothers Grimm's fairy tale.
Man, this is way too close to my actual life at home, except I'm still alive and made it to my 20s where they've decided hitting me is wrong. So why is it fine to beat a child and not an adult??? Hitting doesn't actually teach ANYTHING, I used to stand by it believing it's why I grew up into a good hearted person. In reality I was always good hearted, just tainted by mental/emotional abuse. I loved how they actually resolved and showed everything to give closure, I hate when games end with a cliff hanger and "ooo mystery the ending is up to your imagination" but I wanna SEE it through!

The worst part? The kid still loved his dad. This is just agonizing.
After all of that he still wanted to save him...
Yeah, he hadn't reached the breaking point yet.
that's how all parental abuse works, that's the point dude
From my limited knowledge, when a very young kid lives in a abusive household, and doesn't know what a healthy parent-child relationship is supposed to be like, they have more chance of having an affection for a abusive parent... Rest and n peace ron.
The fact that you play as the son leads me to believe that his rotting corpse has been unknowingly haunting his dad everywhere he goes for past 14 days
And that his mother only noticed he was missing after 14 days because shes always home past bed time

@@thesenate5291yep, and that was the only time the mother slept in the same room with her son, and he’s only visible to her at night.

Really sad.
She basically got her son killed. I wouldn’t necessarily call her a bad parent but she’s a very dumb one.
Maybe she tought that he had fled away with the kid, like sometimes happens and was sad but hoped they will come back sometime later and that led to her spenfing 14 days thinking her son was with the dad and when she founds out the body she realizes and hits her with the "he wasnt with him, he is dead"

Same here i had a very bad upbringing .😢

So innocent , heartbreaking.
That’s actually right children do indeed have high imaginations and it’s unfortunate that for some kids including me and many others it was their downfall,a disadvantage but that’s the human mind awesome especially at a young age to imagine stuff and learn effectively this is indeed heartbreaking
I think the most pitiful one here is the mom.
Bad husband, working like a slave, lost her child, suffer alone.
yeah… although I’d recognize whether the mother stayed or left the child would’ve suffered regardless. Her leaving caused the loss of her child, which to any (sane) parent, is a heart-wrenching tragedy. Every relationship, another facade.
"In the beyond"?, bitch how tf are they supposed to see that when theyre dead😭-/j
I want to hug them
despite this being a rather common and cliche storytelling prompt, god was it done in such a way where i genuinely felt anxiety even with the jumpscares aside, execution was absolutely incredible. i could see a lot of the foreshadowing from a mile away (“red face” being the drunken father, the kid dying from being strangled etc) but the game told it in a way where i was still on edge and i think most of it could be handed to the general creation of the environment/effects as well as seemingly irrelevant details.
the grainy green-yellow tint and the stop motion like movements of all the characters as well as the general stasis really felt like i was going through someone’s memories where certain aspects weren’t fully filled in.
something that caught my eye immediately about this game was the layout. at first glance, it’s super simple and uninteresting: that within itself could also be related to the fact it is a memory we’re going through and people, particularly those who are abused/traumatized in some way, are more likely to remember very specific moments (and in this case places/objects) since they’re directly tied to an event that’s stuck with them.
aside from that, the game made everything look so unusually big. granted, that’s also because the character is a child and therefore very short, but even so, it mirrored how children and even adults tend to visualise things. the loud footsteps are somehow meant to illustrate how children feel in real abusive situations, where everything is so much louder than it actually is because it’s both a survival instinct/conditioned fear response (you don’t want to be too loud in fear your abuser will hear you and hurt you).
the imagery of the dad going through heavy guilt after murdering his own child to the point he suffered from hallucinations was horrific, it’s clear he didn’t blame his son for anything, his brain can only remember his son’s innocence and the final look on his face as he locked him in a closet.
the portrayal of the mother also stuck with me, the fact she was ultimately trying her best for a baby she clearly loved and for that to have been spat back in her face by an abusive husband is so heartbreaking. not to even mention the whole idea of the “cycle” and a child’s innocent refusal to put fault on their parent’s despite knowing they hurt him. even early on, the child is meek and shy, refusing to acknowledge his father being a “bad person”, growing increasingly quieter when the cat asked for more direct specifics on the description of his father. he’s scared to say anything because it’s his father, he’s meant to love him, and he does.
it’s that young naivety that makes children both so special and sweet, and so tragically vulnerable to people who are broken. and wow i didn’t expect this to get so long lol, i have even more to add but this has gotten long enough 😭
This is a perfect explanation, well done! I really enjoyed reading this 🥹🫶

Wait pops sorry you had more my bad feel free to share it I’d love to get to know myself better
I like the detail that the form of teleportation for each kid is in the form that they were left dead, as can be seen here 13:11
They appear out of nowhere yet it makes sense, the kid in the car was either killed then stuffed into the trunk, or left to die inside of it, the second one was either burned alive or tossed into the fire to hide the evidence, and the third was killed then tossed into the grave or just buried alive.
I think we will know how the other children are dead when the creator will make the sequell like he said the comment
i was thinking the same thing too bro

Yk, obviously the dad was bad, but that mom acted a lot like my mother when we were in a rough spot. Clearly stressed but still loved and cared for me.

Learned early that life is a nihilistic nightmare of people taking advantage, worshipping selfishness and pretending to care until you become a liability. This game was painful yet interesting to watch
@@Jesse-wn6jd I'm sorry to hear that man. I went through some of your struggles too and im always trying to think right about things. I've been called resilient but I think I'm less resilient and more I didn't experience the full fury of the situations I was actually in out of sheer luck.
I strongly like the story telling in this. The twist is not uncommon but they left very little ambiguous unlike a lot of stories that try this twist.

WOw. its all just strung together so nicely and yes while i agree with the end where you say it's kind of a common topic for psychological horror its just done so well in a way where it DIFFERENT and i love it. id personally rate this a 9.5/10 only .5 off for lack of explanation for the kids at the end but overall AMAZING WOW GOLD TROPHY I AM ON MY KNEES PRAISING WHOEVER MADE THIS

the baby in the trunk was left to die there or killed and was hidden there

@@Rahimahah that definitely makes sense!! my point more is,,,why are they there instead of literally any other dead child yknow? i dont know if i missed something but there wasnt much of an explanation on why they're significant to ron's story. maybe its just the theme of bad parenting?

this really was a beautiful game. the way it depicts how children can process trauma and the common story that a lot of people in abusive families can relate to was so smart. to help draw the connections between a child's imaginative way of coping and the real world was so smartly done because it shows we can't discredit kids, even if their story sounds off. and to have the children sit and play and exist together at the end as a group of healed spirits was so heartwarming, especially because they were happy to wait for when ron was ready to move on.
Man, that’s one depressing but happy ending.

Wow what a wonderfully sad story.. I teared up at the part where the doll said the boy kept making up stories to make him feel better about his dad, and ended up crying at the "spell" being the hotel card the boy's ghost helped to defeat his killer. Why does this child walk with so much authority damn
im suprised that the dad still thinks he is the man of the house when the kid's walk spells fear to any that hear it
LMAO tbh, my view on it as that the loud footsteps are somehow meant to illustrate how children feel in real abusive situations, where everything is so much louder than it actually is because it’s both a survival instinct/conditioned fear response.

The redface was the dad we had all the way.

It's a small comfort that the father got arrested, but it's better than if he got away, and he has to deal with the guilt from that for the rest of his life. All these perfect tie-ins (& direct foreshadowings essentially) is exactly what good storytelling is about;
took a while to exactly understand (especially with the seemingly convoluted & random midsection, though it all came together in the end - wrapped with a nice little bow & all), but loved it nonetheless.
