Steven Verhelst is my musical hero over the past months. I know it sounds cliche' but I find a spirituality to his compositions that make them so much more than the sum of the notes. I've sat and listened to (for example) Song for Japan more nights than I want to admit. I'm purchasing one of his pieces after another. Just a wonderful composer at a time that we need music to express some emotion.

That was absolutely beautiful. The bass just made it so much better. Man, that bass was so in tune.

One of the finest trombone players in h.s. I had ever heard(for her age and level of education) was a girl. She had sort of head start on us. She had taken piano since the time she was 6!
I didn't know at the age of 9 - when I chose an instrument - that I chose perhaps the most colossal instrument man ever divised.

@kado51393 i know i may be a little late on this. But 1) It's not always great to say how "crappy" your ensemble is. 2) Wood's aren't pricks, they make a great blend ensemble. 3) Most important, If your band can play (suggest to band director) say Arabesque by Samuel R. Hazo with all sonority and technicality's (bones have a 16th/32nd note figure in the middle) then you guys are good =)
If you can't do all of the above, then start your own ensemble and get yourself the music.

RAD so good, but Im done by min 6:15, just saying at what point does it cease to be good music to listen too...and become self pleasuring for people who do play trombone, My old roommate played Bass guitar, he was amazing, a true talent...but the music this guy listened to,, only a jazz bass guitar player could like it, it was like 15 min tracks of slap bass, torture!
You guys are super good! But art should strive to transcend medium and in this video the composition makes it all about medium
