Do you ever listen to a piece of music and think: wow, this is perfectly played and then you listen to someone else's version and you're like: wtf no my ears are bleeding i feel like that for this video lmao
The 1st and 2nd chair trombonists at my high school played this for solo & ensemble and ran through/practiced every day directly after class was over, so pretty much everyone in my band knows it by heart...
I'm a flutist and very amateur composer, but I heard this piece for the second time on a faculty recital at my school last night, and I'm now working on my own set of sketches for two bass trombones. Thanks, Steven Verhelst!
Such pleasure swarms to my mind when listening. Perfect intonation and super high "G's" and pedal "C's" and "F's" mastered wonderfully makes these two gentlemen deserve praise for their excellent musicianship as music players. This will always be the best recording of this duet.
I wholeheartedly agree with your comment, though there is one thing that isn't quite true. There are no pedal C's in the piece, and the double G was creative interpretation, and not written in the music.
Martin Schippers Do you guys have custom trombones, or are they just a model you can order from like edwards, or shires? Also what mouthpiece do you guys play on?
Live audience really helps adding some noise into the music that interrupts the music. For example: Clapping, cheering. That's good for live performance but not for people who just want to hear the music.
After finding the sheet music and practicing with a friend, I have realized that as simple as it sounds, the alternating segment at 1:31 is easily the most difficult part of the song
Every bass trombone player I know, including myself, will blast 2:42 to the end with any other bass trombone around us just to show how absolutely terrifying this horn can be when used right
Put simply, this is absolutely amazing and inspiring.. And THIS is why trombones shouldn't be the ones always getting the quiet and barely noticeable notes. It seems like the trumpets and woodwinds always get the more noticeable parts. EVERYONE wants to play trumpet, percussion or woodwind. Not to mention percussion (however, percussion is more understandable since there's so many percussionists in literally every genre known to man).
Martin Schippers has pretty much my favorite bass trombone sound in the world (and I'm not exaggerating) Mr. Schippers, if you were to record a solo album, I would be very happy to buy it and listen to it
Gods, this makes me so excited and happy that I play the bass trombone. Hearing how this is preformed and how beautiful the notes are played really pushes me to want to get better in general and to really figure out how I can prepare and better myself for the lower register of the bass. This also makes me wish there were more Bass trombones at my school. But this was absolutely amazing in every way and boy have I been listening to this on loop.
HiggsBoson My school doesn’t even have a bass trombone. If my band teacher asked me to play the bass trombone, I’d happily accept. I want to become a professional trombonist, who can play all brass instruments, but my main instruments would be the tenor and bass trombone.
I have to take videos like this in stride or my head might explode. Very fine playing of a stellar composition, poise and control with room for both to shine, Bravo gents!
crazy how you can see how much better Tomer Maschkowski's tone is about a decade from now, as if it wasn't already excellent then its somehow even better today
Perfect use of articulation, it adds so much to the musicality of the piece. Every other piece I've heard substitutes clean and musical articulation with crescendos and diminuendos. You guys have put a lot of work into this and have set the standard for this piece, awesome job!
did a performance of this with my friend for my final performance for my bachelors degree safe to say this video was a hell of an inspiration. you guys are insane!
omg thank you guys so friggn much for post this. i've only heard this played on keyboard with trombone voice and it's so much better on real trombones. Your skills are insane. Absolutely INSANE. I can't imagine how long it took for you guys to sound so friggin amazing! Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!
Do you ever listen to a piece of music and think: wow, this is perfectly played

i feel like that for this video lmao
which one? Lol
Exactly how I feel XD
Mindless Words same Af
Exactly. No other performance will ever match this.
I just felt that when listening to a tuba and bass bone play it. It was good, but it just wasn't "this recording".
The 1st and 2nd chair trombonists at my high school played this for solo & ensemble and ran through/practiced every day directly after class was over, so pretty much everyone in my band knows it by heart...
KRaKeN 007 did we go to the same school 🤔
Did they play it any good?
KRaKeN 007 I played this with my friend for a music theory presentation and we prepared it in like 1 week and it sounded really good actually lol
Regard crazy cause that just happened to me they both made all state honors too and one got 1st chair they got a perfect score on the duet
I am the second chair trombone playing this… at least currently
2:56 has to be the best chord I've ever heard
Red Mohican The clash ;)
Actually perfect. Never heard a clash sound melodic before
Awesome C/F
Read your comment just as it was being played lol
@@delusionalpath its a perfect fourth (F/C) and in the right context can be both dissonant and harmonic. And it sounds fucking great in this.
these two remind me of the bad guys in home alone, but this is amazing lol.
Eyoel Abera jajaja
At 1:45 when he’s seen in the reflection of the bell... much like the reflection of the Christmas tree ornament
lmao yes
Phenomenal playing. Truly an inspiration to trombonists everywhere.
Happy to hear that!
Martin Schippers yes
Hiiii!!
I'm a flutist and very amateur composer, but I heard this piece for the second time on a faculty recital at my school last night, and I'm now working on my own set of sketches for two bass trombones. Thanks, Steven Verhelst!
Let me know when you have it ready!
Do you have this done? I’d love to check it out
We're playing this in my high school marching band this year!
I never knew the bass trombone had such range of timbres. It's really beautiful.
Such pleasure swarms to my mind when listening. Perfect intonation and super high "G's" and pedal "C's" and "F's" mastered wonderfully makes these two gentlemen deserve praise for their excellent musicianship as music players. This will always be the best recording of this duet.
sooper good yes I agre Avocado and Jaden
ohhhhh yeah;);););););0
I wholeheartedly agree with your comment, though there is one thing that isn't quite true. There are no pedal C's in the piece, and the double G was creative interpretation, and not written in the music.
The double G was written in the original score that was written for Tomer and myself but not in the version that has been published...
Martin Schippers Do you guys have custom trombones, or are they just a model you can order from like edwards, or shires? Also what mouthpiece do you guys play on?
This makes me want to pick up my trombone again I don’t know why ever stopped
I cannot get over this. I wanna switch to bass trombone so much.
Makes me almost want to quit!
Tucker Showkeir do it
It’s played on tenor?
@@concealedinshrub8357 both are basses
concealed in shrub no?
It's sad that they are playing with no live audience.
ua-cam.com/video/3pK-7GW95vE/v-deo.html here you can find one with audience...
Martin Schippers where can I find the sheet music for this piece? Also you sound amazing.
@@martinschippers unique! performance! Machtig!!
It's for a reason, them having no audience increases the resonance of the music

That run at 1:51 was amazing! Really shows off the bottom end of the Bass Trombone...amazing!
beautiful

Even worse for most Euphoniums, we get kicked out of bands because they dont know what we are
Surprisingly enough, theres plenty of songs that let trombones have the melody at times, and it sounds really cool.
I'm a tuba. Lol.
Some of the coolest parts of the songs I played recently were the trombone sections. I'm a trombone player so I guess I'm biased
Have you ever played a woodwind?
The last note gets me everytime 😍😭
dude. i know
Dude🥰
2:35 Wow that part is so gorgeous.
oh. my. god.
this
i have no words
its just
wow
like WOW
Of all the options I listened only to always come back to this execution. thanks
1:31 if you listen realllly closely, you can hear the smashing of valves.
You mean the usage of triggers
Triggers*
@@jacobmorales9551 What do you think a trigger is? It operates a rotary valve.
yo

Mr. Schippers, if you were to record a solo album, I would be very happy to buy it and listen to it
Thanks for your nice words. I don't have a CD in the planning right now but if I will you'll hear about it!
Steven Verhelst will always deliver on his Trombone arrangements. He never messes those up. ever. Absolutely beautiful. ♥️
Masterful! My 16-year-old trombone player grandson recommended this to me as one of his favorites. What a great performance!
なんでしょう、、、この揺さぶれる感覚。心の底から感動しました。

Is this the Achilles from Canadian brass?
so good. the two bass trombonists at my school always practice this in the mornings. you guys did an amazing job

This is by far one of the best songs I have ever heard.
Tomer and Martin you are amazing....!

Lol I'm working on this with my friend. Its awesome. True trombonspiration
Excellent!! and beautiful.
I think trombones may be the most underrated instrument coming from a trombonist BTW
This will always be the OG version and in my opinion, the best
