FRIEREN THE SLAYER!! Don’t let this baby-grandma fool you, she was in the party that killed the Demon King.
Lol baby grandma sounds so perfect describing her
Frieren in everyday life: baby mode
Frieren in Battle: mommy mode
@@jcruz2255 Lolibaba
Fun fact: When Frieren killed Draht and said "one down" she said "Ipiki" which is used in Japanese to count small animals like rats or other pests.
ippiki.
the animal counter is the last "hiki/biki/piki" part, the "i" before means one. The count goes ippiki, nihiki, sanbiki... ("ichi, ni, san" meaning one, two, three)
@@hollyhockgod yeah my bad, thanks for the explanation :>
The Frieren scene at the end of this episode gave me chills, its visual and sound were perfect, Frieren was so fucking badass ❤
Can't wait for ep 9.
That simple line really stood out to me "You re not going to fight them just because they re strong?". If you think about it , it is way too obvious but sometimes you need to hear it so you would understand it. This is exactly what an honorable person would do. You would never fight the weak. You protect the weak from the stronger people that pray on them so you always fight agaisnt the strong.
The title in japanese is Sousou no Frieren. Someone already mentioned this before but Sousou at first glance in episode one just means "Funeral" where theres Himmel' funeral and can just mean people dying throughout Frieren's long lifespan. But it also has another meaning being Slayer here but to be exact it means sending people to funeral(literally killing them, thus translated as Slayer).
it should have been "the reaper" then?
Frieren the Funeral dispenser
THIS! Yes! This!
I just realized that Frieren wearing similar robes to the robes that Heiter was wearing at Himmel's funeral. I guess Frieren really bid the demons farewell
Fun fact : This was actually the Title drop as in Japanese its called "Sousou no frieren " .
I love how both bocchi the rock and frieren did the title drop at ep 8
keiichiro saitou (the chief director of frieren) probably went "keikaku doori" when he planned that
Important to note, same director for both shows. Also the only 2 shows he's been a director for. It's crazy.
The doublemeaning from the Title
Since the anime just recalled the title of the show with episode 08, I will try to explain to people who may not be familiar with Japanese why it is such a big deal, just a little FYI if anyone's interested.
The Japanese title for this show is "Sousou no Frieren" which is also the title of episode 08. As you can see there is a short description "Sousou no" in front of our protagonist's name.
Sousou (葬送) is a word that is formed by combining 2 characters each with their own meaning, 葬 "to bury" and 送 "to send off". Usually, the word has a sad and grieving nuance, but in some contexts, it also means "to kill/to end".
At first, most people assumed that the title is like that because Frieren outlives all her friends, so she "sees them off" one by one. But at this point in the story, the demon reveals that it is actually a title given to her by demons because she has "sent so many demons to their deaths".
People were SHOOK when this double meaning was revealed in the manga, it was just so cool lol
I saw that English subtitles translated it into "Frieren the slayer", while still badass, it just doesn't fully show how the author played with words in the title, and I just think it's a pity that some people will not be able to appreciate it due to stuff lost in translation. IMO experiencing the realization that the title was not as simple as I thought was one of the highlights when reading the manga. But translation is hard, I totally get that.
I'm assuming a lot of people already know this, but just in case, I wanted to create this post, because I really love this show and I'm so happy that the anime is getting so much attention. The anime is doing such a good job, and I look forward to it every week. Cheers.

@@弓月鷹師-u9b i appreciate your help for this. Rly, domo arigatou!! and rly cool to know :D when i visit Japan on the middle in august i should remember it for the Obon Matsuri
@@弓月鷹師-u9b Its take a while, very thank you for your advice. Domo Arigatou! Honto ni.
the scene of frieren floating while looking intimidating at the end really serves as a reminder of how terrifying she is as an opponent. its easy to forget how absurdly powerful she is since she's so cute and derpy most of the time
Fun fact: in the manga, she's not floating in that flashback. She's standing on a pile of demon corpses taller than she is. Not only does that show that she killed them all so fast that she was able to stand on all their corpses before they could disappear into mana particles, but it also suggests it happened during an earlier timeframe than the anime does.
Humans weren't able to use flight magic until after the death of the Demon King. It was one of the spells, along with Zoltraak, that the humans researched and stole from the demons once they weren't constantly under fear of being wiped out by demonkind.
The manga depiction suggests Lügner first encountered her during the Hero Party's trip. Probably while in battle with Aura and her various underlings. Which would explain why Lügner didn't remember her. Most humans would have been long dead, and demons don't live nearly as long as elves, so their sense of time would be closer to that of humans. The anime definitely puts their encounter after the disbandment of the Hero Party, probably more like 40-50 years.
Frieren, 99 % granny baby loot goblin, 1 % brutal killing machine.
It's the opposite.
90% killing machine and 10% granny baby
But the chance of that 90% happening is less than 5%.
@@Mayank_MJ It happents 90 % of the time, significantly less than half of the time.
When Frieren kills Draht in the beginning was so badass and satisfying.
Immaturity among demons lol. I love that Lugner even commented about it.
the spell she used to destroy draht looks a lot like the spell ubel is using.
@@reignmans similar in result, but more involved since she moved her hands to use it while Ubel can just look at something and cut it.
"Stark is so pathetic (affectionate)"
😂
In the final flashback to Lügner's previous encounter with Frieren, you can see the blood splashed onto her from the demons she just got through slaughtering evaporating away. Talk about hardcore...
So many little details Madhouse put into this adaptation. It's insane.
13:05 If you listen to the Japanese, this is a Title Drop: Sousou no Frieren. Frieren the Slayer, Frieren the Undertaker, and others have been translated from that. Oh, I see that @leeboonkang2 already posted about that...
"I feel like Frieren is gonna go crazy" i cant wait to see her reaction to what happens
Thanks for the reaction! You're going to love the next two eps.
It was mentinoned by the Graf that his son was killed by the demons and that's why he let the demons in. Lugner also did mention that Frieren seemed familiar so seeing Fern just like her was awesome and he put the two together.
Thumbnail goes crazy, very visually pleasing !!
It’d be fun to see Frieren in a fight with someone as strong as her. Funny that you mention that 😂
13:30 My guess is it's a combination of him having last seen her eighty years ago and demons tending to not bother to remember the faces of their food, even if that food almost killed them once.
That thumbnail looks so good.
was waiting for this. "stronger than aura the guillotine" is crazyyy
Frieren is seen by her human friends as slightly flakey and needing to be protected. Also the reason demons look under the bed and open the closet door before going to sleep. With the blankets pulled over their heads and something heavy blocking the door.
Next ep Frieren is gonna pop off hard! The reason she's feared so much by the demons.
I love how even the side characters that we only see in an episode or two are well developed and smartly written.
The lord here is no fool and figures out what really happened on his own. In other shows they would have dragged it out and he would be a moron trying to go after Frieren.
that was title drop by the way - sousou no frieren | frieren the slayer (of course english title is different)
edit: I just checked and rather than being a title drop its a wordplay on the title. Sousou no frieren - frieren at the funeral / frieren the slayer. it means both of them.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Japanese: 葬送のフリーレン, Hepburn: Sōsō no Furīren, pp. "Frieren, the Final Farewell to the Dead"
Don't let Stark fool you - or himself. He's far braver than he believes himself to be.
He's a brave hero posing as a coward posing as a hero.
The show is like cutesy cutesy emotional then we got ep 8 just featuring decapitation💀
Love you, Alana!
I am still waiting for the 'I want to eat your pancreas" reaction 😭
Same here
This is literally the best action character introduction theory capitalized by John Wick ch1 and this episode of Frieren. Don't tell the audience the main character is op and or terrifying. Let the bad guys and monsters tell the audience how terrifying and / or OP the main character is. It is something to be feared it is a whole other thing to be feared by the monsters.
And it's even getting better and better from episode to episode 🙂
HE SAID THE THING
Title drop!! Also this episode where stark becomes a man
I really feel like you would enjoy the anime ReLife its a 17 episode slice of life and it bases on a man who was in a spot where he felt like giving up but after an event he is given a chance to change for the better
Yeah true we kinda felt forget it was hundreds or thousand years ago i really get it why they konda forgot frieren
Just a note "Sousou no Frieren" doesn't really mean "Frieren the Slayer". It's much colder than that.
Sousous means "funeral". So the title of the show is Frieren's Funeral which of course is referencing all the funerals she must attend for lost friends.
But in the case of the demons, it more accurately translates to "Frieren the Funeral-bringer" or "Frieren the Undertaker". A "slayer" implies there's a battle or a fight. When you meet an undertaker, there is no fight, you're already dead, they just put you in the ground.
heya!! just wanted to let you know that another channel here on youtube has been translating your reaction videos into Japanese. not sure if you already knew this but it has popped up in my recommended a few times and I thought it was you😂
Frieren the slayer 💅
Frieren cosplay, when? 😁
That's title dropped for you.
Lord Lugner's magic seems very similar to the blood fiend (Power's) abiliy from Chainsaw Man!
I wonder who would be stronger between the two?
And Stark did break that expensive looking chair 😂
The one that pop off was his head lol
Beautiful thumbnail
Slay Queen 😂
❤❤❤
Fact about name Lügner: from german it translate "lyier".
"So easy for him to lie" ... Well Lügner basically means Liar in German
Literally liar. As a German the names in this show feel like parts of a fever dream and I love it
@@wamaschawama5178 I understand the feeling. I am no German but I did learn the language. But definitely knowing what the names mean (without having to look them) provides a different viewing experience
Why didn't she reacting on Tokyo Revengers season 3😢😢
Frieren is so badass
Its just much better to not have ambiguous enemies
What if lugner has hepatitis does his blood magic infects his victims with it 😂
You are right, i rather have in my pàrty 1 fearful Stark always on edge than 5 over confident paladins that underestimate every enemy just to be overpowered by one tiny mistake
Off topic: I think theres something different about you and I believe its your hair 😊 I just wanna say its beautiful 🥰
unfortunate we have to wait for a S2 for the golden land arc
🍀
Episode 8 ??????
And all the episodes of the season 2 of Spy x family??
Btw, Frieren the slayer is also the japanese title, but english title takes away "the slayer".
"Sousou no Frieren"
First of all, I don't understand English, so I'm sorry if my English is a little weird.
I love Ms.Alana Misako's reaction.
It's a match against Aura.
It's going to get more interesting from now on.
I'm writing this down because the character's pronunciation was questionable.
Stark is Shutaruku.
The first "A" in Aura is pronounced "ʌ". The "ura" after that is pronounced as is.
I hope Ms.Alana Misako and many others see this...
I think these pronunciations are close to Japanese.
「Stark」と「Aura」は英語の言葉なので、西洋人にとって、別に発音することは難しいですよ。
日本語で話す時、僕が「シュタルク」の代わりに、時々「スターク」を言ってしまいます。また、「アウラ」の代わりに、「オウラ」。間違いないように、注意しないといけない!
As "Stark" and "Aura" are English words, for us Westerners it's difficult to pronounce them differently.
When speaking Japanese, I sometimes say "Staaku" instead of "Shutaruku", also "Oura" instead of "Aura". I have to be careful to not make mistakes!
@@hollyhockgod Yes, you might be right.
Just as it is difficult for Westerners to pronounce Japanese words, it is also difficult for Japanese people to pronounce Western words.
I just tried to teach you how to pronounce it as closely as possible.
It just means "close".
Also, it's not an English version from Japanese, it's originally German.
Frieren's a Demon Slayer XD
Aura lowkey super cute 👀♥️
It's a different feeling when you know the original japanese title. It's a shame when they change the title name. Nevertheless amazing scene!
夫婦以上恋人未満も見て欲しいです!!🎉
2 eps in video..for long whatc
hey alana you should watch dr stone its a good show!
Demons are NOT pure evil. Think of it like a Lion is not evil for hunting a Deer.
And like, Humans don't need to eat fish to survive but its an option.
They are not Inherently evil as they don't have the intent to cause suffering or pain - they dont understand those concepts.
Kimetsu no Frieren
Can you react to shikimori not just a cutie,I'm sure you'll like it
Demons aren't "pure" evil. Are Lions evil? Are Eagles evil? Demons are just cunning beasts/predators that can talk.
