Hey Smee!! Really not sure what happened there.. Thank you for pointing it out. But before we were so rudely cut off, we breifly discussed about how we love the relationship dynamic of Fern and Stark and how lucky Fern is to have Frieren. Also, we adore how Stark is honest about his feelings of being afraid because it's so valid! -Morgan
Here some nice Funfact about the Name: Since the anime just recalled the title of the show with episode 08, I will try to explain to people who may not be familiar with Japanese why it is such a big deal, just a little FYI if anyone's interested. The Japanese title for this show is "Sousou no Frieren" which is also the title of episode 08. As you can see there is a short description "Sousou no" in front of our protagonist's name. Sousou (葬送) is a word that is formed by combining 2 characters each with their own meaning, 葬 "to bury" and 送 "to send off". Usually, the word has a sad and grieving nuance, but in some contexts, it also means "to kill/to end". At first, most people assumed that the title is like that because Frieren outlives all her friends, so she "sees them off" one by one. But at this point in the story, the demon reveals that it is actually a title given to her by demons because she has "sent so many demons to their deaths". People were SHOOK when this double meaning was revealed in the manga, it was just so cool lol I saw that English subtitles translated it into "Frieren the slayer", while still badass, it just doesn't fully show how the author played with words in the title, and I just think it's a pity that some people will not be able to appreciate it due to stuff lost in translation. IMO experiencing the realization that the title was not as simple as I thought was one of the highlights when reading the manga. But translation is hard, I totally get that. I'm assuming a lot of people already know this, but just in case, I wanted to create this post, because I really love this show and I'm so happy that the anime is getting so much attention. The anime is doing such a good job, and I look forward to it every week. Cheers. www.reddit.com/r/Frieren/comments/17ifamo/double_meaning_of_the_title_sousou_no_frieren/?rdt=44310
Thank you for the information, and thank you for saying that about the translation! A lot of people would just assume they didn't translate right or didn't care to, but in reality, like you said its a very hard job! And there was simply not a way to translate it into a coherent way. Sometimes, there isn't a translation for Japanese phrases and they have to be translated into something new while giving off the same meaning/vibe. Sadly, a lot of people think translations should be 1 of 1, but that is practically impossible
To be honest, I was still shocked when I got to eps 8, because I thought souso no frieren meant in English it was frieren beyond journey end, so when I heard the words souso no frieren in the anime and read the subtitles, I quite got goosebumps, because finally I knew the true meaning of the original title
@@JewJitSuSixty9 Just by them changing the title in english was enough to surprise me, because at first I thought Souso no Frieren had the same meaning as the English title, but it turned out to be different and it still make me goosebumps, even though it was in a different way.
The way Frieren executed that demon was some cold piece of work. Quick, efficient and brutal. She really does live up to her moniker of Frieren the Slayer. This section is of the series is where I really became hooked and deeply invested in the series. These next few episodes are going to be Lit!!!!
The demons think they know just how terrifying Frieren is when she's fighting, but just wait! And then there's Stark, and Fern! You are in for a TREAT!!!
Frieren beat their army so badly that Lugner sealed his memories of Frieren deep down. He remembered by been shot by the same magic and been on the brink of death 😵
She couldn't shoot immediately again because that first attack takes a while to charge up that's why she needed Stark to create an opening and that's why they had to retreat.
Fun fact about the end where they said "Frieren the Slayer", that's a close but incorrect english translation. What was actually said was "Sousou no Frieren", which is a wordplay in Japanese. It literally means Frieren at the Funeral or Frieren bringer of the funeral (Frieren the undertaker could also work). It's the title of the show and manga in Japanese, and in the beginnine the viewers are lead to believe it means she witnesse the funeral of Himmel and everyone else she outlives. In this episode the second meaning is revealed where Frieren sends all the demons to their "Funeral".
The demons are updated, that’s what Lugner was saying. Basically while fern thinks she’s learning basic magic , Frieren is actually teaching her some modified techniques
I love Stark too Miss Sam, he is so kind, funny and braver and stronger than he gives himself credit for. I majorly ship him and Fren. Their dynamic is so sweet and funny ❤️💜
If Lugner encountered Frieren, it would have been almost 100 years ago, during their quest to kill the Demon King. So he probably just didn't remember her.
It's probably after their quest. Remember that this is a modified Zoltraak. We don't know exactly when they encountered Qual relative to their defeating the Demon King, and analysis of Zoltraak probably didn't make too much headway in the early years. At least, not enough to produce an anti-demon spell similar enough to the final product that Lügner would call it the same spell. And besides, Frieren was supposed to have contributed significantly to the analysis, and I'm not sure she'd have had the time when she was still travelling with Himmel.
Aura and her minions disappeared after the Demon King fell, though, and weren't seen again until after Himmel died. So, I don't think Frieren has encountered them since the quest.

Was the video supposed to cut off like that...no end card?
Damn, Frieren you scary 😨

I love that Frieren goes, "Yep, your wire is completely indestructible. Anyway, you don't appear to be made of wire, so..." and instant kill.

shout out to the one who did scanlations of the manga on the site I read it on, who included translation note pointing out this amazing play on words.

This is the episode that convinced me that this is cinema, i like how Frieren went from a kind clumsy elven mage to full Psycho Killer.
You have to be a psycho killer in order to take in monsters that kill humans
frieren is the jolly old master archetype that turns into a stone cold killer when they need to (like master roshi or oogway)
Lugner's VA voices Sukuna. Love how he can be regal and switch it up to be brutal if he wants to.
What?! Very talented
The demons think they know just how terrifying Frieren is when she's fighting, but just wait! And then there's Stark, and Fern! You are in for a TREAT!!!
“One of the geniuses I despise”……bruh goosebumps every time

Stark is Zenitsu if he was a good character in a good show.
The only thing they fear is Frieren
Doom pun, nice :D
Nahh thay fear himmel more.. they literally hide when himmel was alive then craw out of their cave when they find out he died
The demons are updated, that’s what Lugner was saying. Basically while fern thinks she’s learning basic magic , Frieren is actually teaching her some modified techniques
Lugner's too trumatized he removed frieren from his memories
Next couple of episodes are gonna go hard AF btw
I'm glad the side character in this anime capable of logical thinking, not just mindless noble in heroes way
I love Stark too Miss Sam, he is so kind, funny and braver and stronger than he gives himself credit for. I majorly ship him and Fren. Their dynamic is so sweet and funny ❤️💜
Im really glad theres no unnecessary stupidity with the characters in this show
The next episode is absolutely peak. So excited for y'all to see it!

@@SonesBen Just because he's one of Aura's minions now doesn't mean he always was. He might have joined her after she resurfaced.
When it comes to demons, Frieren dont play around. Her history with them must run deeeep!

I like the german translation of "Sousou no Frieren" so much better than "slayer".
"Todesbotin" which roughly translates to "Harbinger of Death"
Great reaction!
*FRIEREN WINS! PERFECT VICTORY! FATALITY!*
We gotta get the “Stern” ship going already lol

Frieren is such great neurodivergent representation, i love it.
