the tether distance is really messing with me and my duo on our non dedicated server because it makes me lag like crazy when he goes to far from me and it teleports me and whatever tame im on to him
Yeah it's annoying but it's a limit of locally hosted online multiplayer. It's not actually a server. I wish they wouldn't use technical definitions like "non-dedicated server" because few people know what that means. You are hosting it on your own PC or console, and your friends are joining you on there, which is a big strain on your machine. Apparently that's why they implemented a tether. Rented servers or dedicated server machines don't have a tether.
@@SongbirdGaming that means nothing. we can host multiple ark servers and minecraft servers on our pcs at the same time while also playing on them
@@lordzeuscannon6400 Minecraft is a very different game that takes vastly less resources to run. ASE was 8 years old and still full of bugs but didn't have the crazy graphics of ASA and was better optimized. Non-dedi is a different thing. It's singleplayer. It uses your single player save. But it opens it up so a few friends can join you. But only if the game can treat it like single player, by keeping all the players together in the same area. If you don't want a tether, then go ahead and set up a dedicated server.

I don't remember hearing that. And the tether is only a thing in non-dedi/online hosted multiplayer. It doesn't exist on servers.

Trying to play this game with a friend, sure 1000 is nice, but its a world for exploring and having your own adventure. I have not seen a game with such an ability to create a unique experience put its foot in its mouth so hard as this game.
You can explore all of it and have your own adventure. In single player. Or with friends on a server. Official or unofficial, your own or someone else's, actual servers do not have a tether of any kind. This is a resource intensive game and can you imagine someone with an xbox S or an old gaming laptop trying to host up to 8 people on their machine? Spread out all over the map? The poor thing would melt. And the game would crash, for sure. Putting in a tether is a way to try to conserve processing resources so the game only has to render one area at a time for all these people, instead of a bunch of different areas, while also running the game for you. "non-dedicated" (locally hosted online multiplayer) is not a real server. A dedicated server machine can handle that many players and more just fine.
@@SongbirdGaming Should be an option then. Or, make it needed on consoles an a choice on pc. My friend and various others are annoyed because we do not have the ability to just play the game without annoying restrictions or money to get a server
@@masterdeathize you aren't alone, but there's not really anything we can do about it. Perhaps when the game is more stable they will allow the tether to be longer or will get rid of it. In ASE you could make it super long, out of render of each other. In the meantime, plenty of free servers to choose from. A lot of creators have free unofficial servers you can join, Aaron Longstaff, MonArky, etc.

Seems like the last week they've been communicating a bit better, but I'm not a fan of the female character changes.
The other two maps they put on there recently they removed it but when you play the first map the island it will let you go further. That is the only one that will let you do it. Other ones won't. I'm playing it right now on the PS5, me and my friends testing it out
Thanks for testing it out! Yeah I wish they'd be more transparent about these things. Guess since the other maps are even less optimized and are still being worked on, they didn't want to have a higher chance of crashes?
Wildcard has LIED to community and they continue to do so.
Devs said “ we upgrade ASE base code from UE 4.5 (from 2015, yeah it’s running that old of UE Version) - > To UE 4.27. Which is latest UE 4 version before upgrading to UE5.
They lied. They said ASA was new code from ground up to take advantage of UE 5 features.
What they actually prob did. Cus they lazy devs/unskilled or don’t have actaully staff to do proper port over UE 5.2. Thus why game runs like shit.
ASE UE 4.5 --> UE 5.0/5.1 = Arc survival ascended.
This is why all same old bugs/issue/glitches/bad fps/rubber banding is in ASA. And I have theory that they are running UE 5.1. When they said ASA is running UE 5.2. No matter what hardware you pc is. Even if on high end AMD/Intel CPU with 4090. ASA runs worst then ASE did. It’s Not new code. Is same BASE code from ASE = and they have lied about it.
Unreal engine v5.2/ 5.3 has many improvements/bug fixes along with nanite and luman, whihc should help game run better. Not worst.
They community of ark fans need to ask the devs to answer truthfully……
Q: is ASA actually running UE 5.2? If yes then why is running worst then older ASE? Am betting they lied, ASA running UE 5.0/ 5.1. Both had a lot issue with performance.. remember matrix demo. That was made on UE 5.0. And was Beautiful, but ran kinda like crap.
They did quick cheep port to UE 5.0/ or 5.1. Slap on few new features and said done. Slapped sticker price on ASA = and we community are getting ripped off. They should be sued. Cus they continued lie to community again and again. Snail games is just as guilty too.
I’m not dev. But ex beta tester, ex moderator, small server admin from another small indie dev team. The dev team I was with. Before I step down do to moving at the time. Upgrade there game UE game engine a few times. And they are a smaller team vs wild card.
It’s funny. I was with smaller indie dev team and they did better job. Their game is doing well. But wildcard can’t even do proper port over to UE 5. They ran game engine version for ASE that was base on tech from 2015. And they NEVER upgrade to newer version. Till now.

We are able to play ASE single player with no tether now. I'm sure last time we played on there it wasn't a problem. I guess they want ASA players to buy nitrado servers 😔 were on xbox but haven't tested the tether since they did the update, will have to check if they removed the slider for us too. Yesterday i went into a cave and ofc there was no floor bc ofc there wasnt and i lost my character and tames so that was fun gotta love ark

I play with a friend who runs on xbox, and I'm on pc he can't go that far away, or it teleporters him, but he can climb above me as high as he wants, and nothing happens it honestly doesn't make sense lol 😅 I wish we could just turn it off
Lol that's funny. But yeah sadly no way to turn it off for online multiplayer. You need a dedicated server (rented or a separate machine hosting it) to get rid of the tether.
They did remove the setting for the tether distance, and I believe it is 1000 for PS5 that me and my friends have seen

This must have been a recent change. Was trying to dabble with the slider just a few days ago.
It does seem to be very recent, someone commented on the other video that the slider was gone, about 2-3 days ago.
As of today it appears as if hosting non dedicated is no longer an option for Xbox and Microsoft users. My kids and I played together last week but now we can’t anymore. Followed at least a dozen “solutions” to find out I have zero connection issues.
Oh no! That really sucks, I hope they bring it back. I wonder if there were stability issues. I know Microsoft is pretty strict about things that cause crashes.
PC gamer....just tried to play a non-dedicated game with the wife today for the first time since Christmas and the tether is horrible. Not even 150 meters. Kept getting stuck together even when we were 50 meters from eachother
That's really odd. Most of the other PC users (check the comments) have been saying it's better now. Are you sure you are updated to the most recent patch?

How do you remove the host name, like the distance, on ark evolved, I don’t want to know where my friends are hiding etc
I'm not sure how you would remove that if you are all in the same tribe, but if it's set to PVP and you are not all in the same tribe you won't be able to see each other's names.
There is probably a setting, but since I never used it myself I don't know what it is. If you wanted to ask on my Discord (link in description) in the server info area, there's lots of other people on there that know a lot more about settings and stuff than I do.

This feature was never available on Xbox. Playing Asa on Xbox, still not there. Unsurprising.
It was there, but buried a couple menus deep in the settings menu. Out of the hundred or so comments on the prior video, there were lots of Xbox players who commented. Some said it worked, some said it didn't, but I didn't see any that said the setting didn't exist.

Very new Ark player here, literally have 20 hours, I play it with my friend on PC. The tether distance is about 1.100m then I get beamt to him. I actually don´t know why such thing even exists? It´s stupid af, just let me fly where I want and my friend can do what he wants.
Apparently it's because it's online multiplayer hosted on your friend's PC, not a server. It's a very resource intensive game, and having to render multiple areas of the map at once is more likely to cause crashes. At least that's what I've been told.
What system are you playing on Rage?

Yeah dealing with the tether is frustrating. That's actually why I started renting my own servers, years ago. No tether at all on a server.
What does tether distance do?
For people playing online multiplayer with a friend or 2, hosting a session on their own machine, it prevents the "guests" from going more than a certain distance away from the "host". If the host is out of range it teleports the guests to them.
Why don’t they just get rid of the Host leash 😢
The tether was removed because it is now set to maximum distance by default and there was no reason for a dedicated menu entry anymore
It now appears that is the case, but nothing was said officially about it, and the lack of communication was confusing. The patch notes said nothing about changing it for console, so I didn't know if this change affected console players or not. I took down the #1 most popular video on my channel because of this change. The fact that the video was so popular, told me that there are people searching for answers on the tether issue, hence the update video.
It doesn‘t make sense abouth the stability if it would not crash each 30 mins for every plattform
It doesn't though... I hear from lots of people who almost never have crashes. For me, some days it's been every 20 minutes, other days I stream or build off-stream for 6-7 hours at a stretch without a single crash.
Crashes can have multiple different causes, and they've been working on patching and fixing the various causes since the game was released. Should the game have been worked on for another several months before being released? Yes absolutely. But it is what it is.

@@Killpro1001 Streaming or recording while also playing a resource-heavy game, is much harder on your system than just playing the game by itself. For me, sometimes the crashing has been really bad, heck I rage-quit ASA the beginning of February and didn't touch it for a month, because I couldn't get any building done with it crashing every 10 minutes. I played Enshrouded and Palworld instead. But I've since come back, and it's mostly been better, it's weird though, I can sometimes play/stream/record for hours without any issue, but once I have one crash, it seems like it will start crashing more often again. But other times... like Friday I streamed for almost 6 hours without a single crash.

@@SongbirdGaming It worked for me flawlessly. My friends could go about 800 meters before being teleported to me, and without crashing. Now, ever since the update like 4-5 days ago, my game crashes about 10 seconds after I spawn every time I load into the server. Plus, I had 30+ mods that all worked amazingly, and my game only crashed twice before the update. Now I can't even play the game. Me and a bunch of others flat out cannot play ASA right now. On PS5 btw.
@@JadeValstraxGaming910 ugh that's frustrating. I've heard about some of those issues, there have been messages on WC's official discord that they are working on it, and I think they've got some hotfixes they are working on. However, PS5 players are likely to be the last to get those patches, because of the approval/cert process every single little change has to go through, with Sony.

Right now the game is still not very stable. Trying to do that in multiple areas of the map at once, around multiple players, would be more likely to cause crashes. Sony and Microsoft won't tolerate that risk. So the tether control is gone for now, according to some recent reports some consoles can't even host non-dedi at all at the moment (severe stability issues I'm guessing) but hopefully they will bring it back when/if they ever get this game more optimized and stable.

So they really want us to pay $45 for a game with tether still.. these companies are so scummy

Wildcard Still A Scamming Company
definitely frustrating at times
Since the game features mods on all platforms, maybe the modding community will come to the rescue and create a mod that gives you the slider and an option to completely turn the tether off.
Come on modding community we are counting on you to give us a loophole around wildcards biggest mistake.
I want my wife to play with me but she won’t due to the tether.
The teleporting of one of us back to the other is literally the biggest strain on the system but since we both play it on cloud gaming it really should be optional, game runs real smoothly on the cloud compared to installing it.
I'm not sure that it's possible, but I hope the modding community comes through on that!
In the meantime, there is never a tether on a server, and if you don't want to rent your own, there are plenty of great little unofficial server communities that you can join. I have a server for channel members, right now it's Scorched Earth with lots of fun mods.
Aaron Longstaff has several PVE servers that are free, the MonArky is also free, they have a kind of "PVP lite", good-hearted PVP type of server community. I have a channel in my Discord where people can advertise their servers, and there are tons of them on there.
If you and your wife join one of those you won't have to deal with a tether.
Or, you could rent your own and use my link in the description, which helps out the channel. 😁 I have a couple videos walking you through how to set it up, and I share my settings to get you started, too.

@@CrimsonVox-oq4dx yeah, that's on Sony and Microsoft, since consoles are essentially computers with a simplified interface. But in order to be able to stay simple and easy to use, they aren't as customizable as a PC. Sony and Microsoft need them to stay stable and simple, every game and mod has to go through certification before it can be made available for consoles, because they don't want console games getting a reputation for being buggy and crashing. They are supposed to be plug and play.
PC games, especially through Steam, have no cert process. If it crashes or is full of bugs, oh well, fix it yourself or just deal with it. That's why most early access games come to Steam first. Steam players get to be the Guinea pigs lol.

they should make a bubble shows up on that says “warning you’re about to change settings or ini it might break your game if you increase it or decreases if that happens just uninstall and reinstall the game” it works for me on PC when I mess up something and they should make it work on console but noooo they wanna impress there investors so they can get the money
