Finally returned to this masterpiece for so long. The only thing about this is that I always speed it up to 1.25x so it sounds like the original. The crazy thing is that it feels like that speeding up is the real remix! Intentional or not, you did an excellent job.
I think because the remix is based on the PAL version which sounds slower to people used to NTSC regions (especially true in north america where 8 bit sonic was mainly known with the Game Gear release) For I have known and played the game in it's "original" release on the European SMS, so this remix sounds for me right on the spot! the slower pace gives it a deeper & more dramatic vibe IMHO.
To the idiots saying 1.25x is better: it’s not! Most people heard this at the time in the PAL tempo, due to the MS being so popular in Europe and the GB shadowing other systems regardless of the GG’s popularity.
Incorporating Crazy Motorcycle Chase was a very cool idea. Mostly because SMS Scrap Brain Zone is not very interesting on its own, but also because it's so creative! I would have never thought of putting these two together. Iceferno, you've done it once again.
+SonicManEXE It suddenly occurred to me whilst I was working on it: same speed, same key. So I wanted to include a little of it, even if the whole thing wouldn't work. Thanks for the compliments. :)
Not the _Scrap Brain Zone_ I was expecting, but my ears were pleasantly surprised! And hey Iceferno, your voice is nice, calm and measured! You could get paid to narrate audio books I bet!
Thanks! haha Yeah the voice clips were my experiment with endslates between 2015 & 17. I don't think they made much difference, so nowadays I place related ad graphics within the start and end of the track. Means it's less likely to be skipped. ;)
just for not beeing what probably 100k people expected this deserves a thumb up. And if I could give you another one, you'd get it for making a great remix of one of my favorite Sonic songs on the SMS!
Between this and your two zora's domain remixes, I think you've accomplished something great. 8-bit is pretty hard to make not sound obnoxious and you handled the soundfont exceptionally well to get that bitty texture without it sounding too harsh. You've really outdone yourself on this one, Iceferno.
+Th3Skull3r Thanks dude. Yeah, I didn't want to be all obnoxious and chiptune about it, but I also didn't want it to be too different. It's a not a Sonic tune many remixers go for.
No, it isn't. I didn't even know about it until I listened here. That must be a risky proposition for you remixers, you don't have the guaranteed audience of a more popular song, but you have the stage all to yourself. Again, fantastic work.
This is so amazing. Including Crazy Motorcyle was such a creative and effective choice, and hearing it brought such a huge smile to my face. This piece solidified you as one of my favorite Sonic remixers. :) Thanks for all your hard work!
Before any more smartasses leave "1.25 is the correct speed" comments, this remix was requested by someone who played the PAL version. PAL is slower, get over it.
Well that's not a fair thing to say. I get that it's annoying, but since it's a regional thing, it doesn't really matter. Both speeds sound right to different people.
It's designed to sound like the PAL version of the game, which ran at about 83% the usual speed. Personally I prefer it; it makes the song feel a bit more tense while still having a decently quick tempo to it.
It gives the feeling of prolonged worry. I can imagine Sam of Sam's Trains Status imprisoned in the depths of the Scrap Brain Zone, awaiting the day when Sonic the Hedgehog will come to free him and help him return home. In Sam's own real abode, Sam's Mother, Father and Sister are huddled together in the loft. The three are very worried with one question on their minds: will Sam ever return? All they can do is hang on to what little hope they have left, while waiting for Sonic to keep his promise. SISTER: Mom, Dad, I miss Sam. MOTHER: We all do. But we mustn't lose hope. Sonic has promised to rescue him someday. FATHER: Sam will come home, yet all we can do is wait. One day, he'll be returned to us. In the Starlight Zone.... SONIC: Don't worry, Sam. I'll get you out of your prison. Hang on to the love you have for your family. Deep underground, in Scrap Brain City.... SAM: Oh Sonic, where are you? I want to go home. I'm bored of being stuck in this dismal cell. Far away, Sonic is speeding closer to his target. Sam is looking forward to going home where he belongs. The time will come along. For now, all everyone feels is worry. Family, don't lose hope. One day, Sam will be reunited with you.
@@shaynemaskall6984 Since you like stories, I have something to share with you. I invite you to visit my channel Kelly Ashford Trains. There you will find a great variety of videos to look at. Some of them are to do with Sonic the Hedgehog.
+Jingleboy14 I wouldn't say sacrilege. Both tracks have their points. The SMS one has a great energy, and the Genesis one has quite mysterious melodies. I can't quite decide which I prefer.
People say that the slow version is worse because it's the PAL Version In my opinion, I feel like it has more of a vibe to it without the speed (almost like a scene is happening or something like that)
Act 1: oh yeah. Part of the Scrap Brain Zone background is near identical in 16- and 8-bit and the rest is more than similar enough visually in 16-bit for this awesome tune to fit so well. Act 2: yes, especially during encounters with caterpillars, pigs, flames, conveyor belts and electricity... Not as much as Act 1 though (I suppose due to Act 2 being completely inside the factory and not as dark of walls as it's 8-bit counterpart), but still a great combination. Act 3: I think it works for that too - I did watch the Act 3 SMS custom hack which worked similarly.
Here we are now.. at Scrap Brain Zone... Here we are now... at the final Zone... it is dangerous here. Evil lurks here... Enemies lurk here. Robotnik is waiting for you! Those are some lyrics I thought of for the beginning of the music.
This remix is genius. When it goes on a tangent and then BOOM back into the main melody - sublime
Wassup, Micheal? Haven't seen ya since the Shadow Reader live stream.
8 years and this video still hasnt reached the attention it deserves
That was brilliant :)
Level UP ya loving the tune?

I found this by accident last night and my memory clicked on how hard I used to vibe with this remix many years ago, simply amazing!
PAL tempo suits the desperation and sadness mood in this song soooo much more! 💝
I’m glad you used it!
To the idiots saying 1.25x is better: it’s not! Most people heard this at the time in the PAL tempo, due to the MS being so popular in Europe and the GB shadowing other systems regardless of the GG’s popularity.
That, and 1.25x isn’t even accurate lol, that’s too fast. 1.167 !== 1.25
i don't know how it took me so long to discover this, but i love it! also love the 'aaaaaaah' in the background starting at 4:38
My favorite song in Sonic from Master System! Awesome Remix!
Mine too. Love it more than the Genesis version now. :P
Absolutely :D
My favorite song from the master system was Lavyrinth Zone. That menacing tone is MILES better than the twangy "song" in the genesis version
4:38 adds that little dramatic touch in the music :)

This remix scraps my brain in a good way
1:46 Sonic grabs his giant sword, hops on his "Crazy Motorcycle", and speeds down the highway into the Scrap Brain Zone.
+Billy Sutter I should've referenced Shadow The Hedgehog in some way. haha Stupid game.
@@AlecIceferno I'm a bit late... but this reference was about "Final Fantasy 7". ^^
Cause this tiny bit sounds like "Crazy Motorcylce Chase".
I feel like that’s where it kicks off, but it starts back at about 1:30.
This deserves more than just 100k views...
Awesome Remix!!! Very good work man!
1:59 best part
This music is absolute god-tier, my favorite part is 2:51 - 3:12.
Congratulations for making this awesome version! Surely my Master System Sonic's !!!favorite music

The 1.25 is actually pretty cool
Nah blow up scrap brain with 2x

the songs are somewhat slower
think the game itself might be too

Scrap Brain Zone is a factory, not a city, correct?
It's both.
This reminds me of megaman songs
“Wily Fortress 3”
Boss: “Scrapped Brain”
Weakness: the Water-based weapon.
Yay now it does not make me have sad memories
I just played 16-bit Scrap Brain Zone muted while listening to this version.

Is it weird that the SMS version of the theme always reminded me of Mega Man?
It does have something very Mega Man about it, if a bit more melodic.
It feels a bit like the opening of Knights of the Zodiac.

Scrap Brain (Modern)

ok! first off, IF YOU USE AN INTRO/OUTRO FOR A TUNE, MAKE SURE IT STAYS SILENT
@mightymadness5355 That makes no sense, and don't say "First off" if you're not gonna bother with a Second.
As much as I love the Mega Drive version (that's basically Blade Runner mixed with Doctor Who) the Master System theme was much better.
