    Doug, thank you for sharing your hikes & spectacular views of Garibaldi Lake. You have my great respect for your determination to hike this park so many times ! I feel sorry for you but admire you for it. A word of caution about Black Task - I am glad you did not proceed further when the weather turned bad, very wise. Someone I know fell and injured badly, he was in a coma for a long time, he is still alive, but bed ridden till today. He is out of coma, a long road to recovery.

      Hi Jacqueline. Sorry to hear about your friend. I still haven't reached the top of black tusk but I want too. It was kind of disappointing when the weather turned but seeing how i've never been there and the fact that it seemed like everyone else was heading in the opposite directing I decided to turn back. I think I was near the first ridge but considering how foggy it was I wouldn't have been able to see anything anyways. Thanks for sharing your story. Stay safe and take care

    Great Video, you are a trooper bro for knocking out that hike back to back. The wife and I did Garabadli lake 2 yrs ago in MAY. Half way up we got into knee high snow for 3 hrs of the hike. Brutal, super nice down in the valley so we thought it would be the same up there...wrong answer. I highly recommend Joffre Lake if you have not done it yet, another picturesque hike!!

    Hi Doug! Two questions:
    1) if we start at 5am, can we do Panorama Ridge and be back by 9pm? We have done easy to moderate hikes in the past and are in ok-ish shape
    2) is there a route back from Panorama Ridge that would allow us to see Garibaldi Lake on the way back to the parking lot? If not, do you think it's a big loss? Would you rather we see the lake and miss Panorama ridge? Considering we would have seen some lakes in Jasper and Banff before we reach Whister. Would this lake be similar-ish to those ones? We only have a day in Whistler so we know we can't cram too much into it! Your advice will be SUPER helpful and much appreciated! Thanks for the awesome videos!

    • @youtubebydoug
      @youtubebydoug  2 роки тому +1

      Hi there! If you start at 5am and not planning on be back until 9pm you can easily do all 3 trails. Panorama Ridge, Black Tusk and Garibaldi Lake. I can't remember how long each trail took me but its in the video. All the trails are well travelled in the summer and every intersections is mapped out though out the park. Garibaldi Lake is similar to a lot of lakes in Banff and Jasper but detouring to see it will likely only add an 1-2 hours to your day depending on how long you stay there.

    • @SunnahTaqwa
      @SunnahTaqwa 2 роки тому

      @@youtubebydoug Thank you so much for the detailed response, Doug. Super helpful! From your last sentence, I'm assuming there isn't a way back from Panorama Ridge to the parking that would allow us to see the lake, right? We would have to make the extra time to go in that direction from the intersection, correct? Also: Would you recommend we go back from Whistler to Vancouver via the Sea to Sky highway? Are there any absolutely must-see points on that route? I've heard it can be pretty busy in the summer and we don't want to spend too much time on the road. We're coming from Toronto for the first time so we have very limited days and way too much to do!

    Can you refill water anywhere? The campsite maybe?

    • @youtubebydoug
      @youtubebydoug  4 роки тому +1

      the two campsites pull water from garibaldi lake or a nearby creek. it’s unfiltered water and there’s warning signs not to drink from there. That being said there are several creeks and running water throughout the hike. it’s ice cold glacier water and that’s where I and a majority of people doing the hike refill their water. obviously it’s your call if you want to take the risk

      @@youtubebydoug did you do the Black tusk in the meantime? it seems to be a very challenging climb for the more experienced to reach the summit.
      Garibaldi was on of my favorite Spots during the 3 1/2 week roundtrip. Even that most of the hike is a bit boring, or at least "unspectacular"... But The Barriere viewpoint is absolutely awesome and breathtaking

    • @youtubebydoug
      @youtubebydoug  5 років тому

      Did you do Black tusk? I could be wrong but I think there's two parts to it.. You hike to the base but you can go "off trail" and actually hike up to the tusk. This was the only time I attempted it and by the time I got to the base the fog got really thick. I could only see a meter or 2 in front of me. Had lunch but the fog was still there so I decided to hike back down.
      Sounds like a nice trip. Where are you from anyways?

    • @NeoViny
      @NeoViny 5 років тому

      @@youtubebydoug I just saw some Videos about the hikes up and they all look challenging... Seems like a lot of people do this unprepared compared to the effort that this climb demands. I saw some asian guys on youtube who took the wrong way up and that was scary as hell. I wonder why Parks Canada didnt declare this Part as an alpine Route, well, at least we aint saw such a Note at the way points up... We have been to lake o hara and made the yukness ledges alpine Route. That was absolutely awesome and was pretty easy for me (not for my wife ^^) but the Black tusk looks way more challenging. I am from germany by the way :-)

    • @youtubebydoug
      @youtubebydoug  5 років тому

      Yeah there’s a lot of people that take on hikes unprepared. You can probably get away with it on garbaldi during the summer because there’s just enough people up there but once that fog rolled in I tried waiting it out and had to bail. I’ll probably try again next summer. Oh nice so why did you decide on visiting Vancouver?

      Round trip? It sort of depends on how fast you go, your fitness level and the weather. It took me 11 hours round trip but I took my time, the weather took at least 30 minutes for the fog to move out of the way so you could get those views of the lake (others waited over 2 hours) and I spent at least a hour at the top. You could definitely do it quicker if you wanted.

      any good question. from what I remember (haven’t been this year) I think it’s about 5 hours. plus you’ll probably want to spend some time up there. it’s a half a day thing, full day of you wanna do panorama ridge or go further up

    It's PANorama Ridge - NOT PAMorama Ridge. You keep saying it with an M.

    Should have told about day pass which we need to get 6 am in morning. We wasted 4 hours of drive as pass were sold out.

      The day passes started recently because they want people to social distance.. if they are sold out there are other parks you can go too. Check out Joffre lake (no day passes needed there).

    Quick question I want to camp at Garibaldi, but I heard you need to make a reservation. Is that true? And also can we just camp at a random area?

    • @youtubebydoug
      @youtubebydoug  Рік тому

      i've actually never camped up there but check on the bc parks website. I know a lot of people just park at the walmart in squamish or camp up some service roads in the area.
