      @Heart of fire 1. Japan is not in Europe. 2. Greece was called Byzantine Empire and Elladas, and they are not directly related. 3. Portugal is a relatively new country. 4. Sweden is also a new country and was not always called "Sweden" - Denmark, and Austria are both new countries.

    "yes and no" thing has it's own reason and legend. Many yars ago when Bulgaria was part of the Ottoman empire for 500 years. The ottomans wanted to change the Bulgarian religion from christianity to muslim. So they put sword under the throat of every bulgarian and ask "would you accept Allah?". When somebody accept shakes his head left-right (yes), refuse put head down (no) and kills himself for refusing being a muslim.
    I hope this info is helpful and interesting :)

Yes, I sometimes shake my head to say yes, but it's pivoting and not turning it like you'd do when using the western way. The nodding to say no also, it's more like jerking it up to refuse and YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE RIGHT FACIAL EXPRESSION

    About the yogurt - it's sour and depends what brand you buy really dense.
    About our roots the guy from Georgraphy now forgot to mention the thracians, which are one of the oldest native inhabitants of Europe. So in theory we are a mix of Bulgars, Thracians and Slavs, but usually say just the Bulgars, because of their military prowess and conquest during the post classical period and early Middle Ages. As physical appearance we look a bit different from other south slavs.
    About Macedonia a big part of today's Macedonia was a part of Bulgaria pre-ottoman rule and some of our most important cultural sites and even Schools in the terms of where Scholars we trained and Enlightenment of the people, were placed there ( to be exact Ohrid city). Now their population has a huge part of Albanians and Bulgarians live in the east parts of Macedonia. Also the eastern territory of Macedonia was part of Bulgaria pre WW2. That's why the guy from Geography mentioned "brainwashed"... for 40 years under Tito's thumb( Tito was Yugolsavia's leader) and now many of the macedonians decline their bulgarian roots.

    The other thing is that Macedonia its been part of BG territory long time ago, but been separated after 13 July 1878 at Berlin`s convention and from this moment they think like Bulgaria left them. This is like one of the 1st reason, why they don`t like to be called bulgarians.

    About the head nod.When Ottoman forces would capture Orthodox Bulgarians and try to compel them to renounce their religious beliefs by holding swords to their throats, the Bulgarians would shake their heads up and down against the sword blades, killing themselves. Thus the up-and-down head nod became a defiant gesture of saying "no" to the country's occupiers, rather than converting to a different religion.

    BULGARIA 🇧🇬 ONE OF THE OLDEST EUROPEAN COUNTRY

  • @Beatusable
    @Beatusable 5 років тому +32

    Bulgarians are ancient Thracians-Pelasgians (Oldest ppl), according to Latin/Byzantine documents. The Asian theory is FAKE and not based on a historic fact. Bulgarian DNA is also European.

      Finally someone who read more than high school textbooks... Thank you, Sir!

    • @Beatusable
      @Beatusable 5 років тому +5

      @@radokost Thank you for the nice words. Well, even professors at Universities are mostly ignorant. You have to go beyond University. There is not much new at Universities. It´s basically a repetition from Gymnasium containing re-written stuff, which is many times incorrect.

    • @Beatusable
      @Beatusable 4 роки тому +6

      @Thracian 1). Wrong! Bulgarian culture is Thracian and Bulgarian language is based on Thracian-Pelasgian-Boharic (Among others, do read Stephen Guide regarding Boharic language, Thracian Script Decoded IV). Do you know Thracian? I don´t think so, judging from your statement.

    • @Beatusable
      @Beatusable 4 роки тому +8

      @Thracian 2). “KAN/KHAN” is not Turkic but ancient Sumerian (Mesopotamia). There existed no Turks before Bulgarians. The word “Türk” (not ethnic) appeared for the first time just in 7th c AD and it´s Chinese “Tü-kü” (Türk) meaning “strong”. In China, Bulgarians were known as HUNS (2137 BC) and BOGANATAR. No Türks there at that time. The Chinese liked the title KHAN, so they call themselves HAN - Chinese. Sorry dude, but you sound like brain-washed, or are just a TROLL. The so called Asian Bulgarians originated from Balkans and were here 9800 years (Native). A group of Bulgarians started to conquer lands and reached Mesopotamia, Central Asia, Korea, China, Northern India, Bactra, etc…. and they returned back to Europe in around 600 AD - the origin of their homeland. The real TÜRKS were a mixture (descendants) between BULGAR-HUNS and KOREANS, and both KOREAN and so called TÜRKIC belong to same family language.

    • @Beatusable
      @Beatusable 4 роки тому +5

      @Thracian 3). The word Bulgaria (Vulgaria in Greek) exists on Byzantine map already in 165 AD, i.e. around 500 years before there existed any “Turks”. So please, start using your brains and do the math.
      4). There is not a single ancient or contemporary initial Latin/Byzantine sorce which mentions any Türkic Khans. So please do not waste my time with modern fair-tales but start reading true history instead.
      5). It´s not 45% but 49% (Thracian). It´s probably higher, because they didn´t take DNA from all ppl. 49% is very high, since Bulgaria has minority ppl like Armenians, Gypsies, some Turks, and some others. Further, Bulgarian DNA has nothing to do with the Turkic.

    Easy fact for Bulgaria:
    it is essential to know about the Bulgarian language and the other languages similar to the Bulgarian language are that they came from the Bulgarian language, because Cyril and Methodius (two Bulgarian brothers), who create the Cyrillic alphabet.
    And for Macedonia is this:
    Bulgaria has also existed since 681 and Macedonia has existed from 1994-5.

    Answering a few of your questions:
    - The yogurt has a sour taste to it and its often dissolved with a bit of water and salt to make a nice summer drink. It is also the milk we use for typical bulgarian dishes, sauces and salads. The yogurt is also really popular in Japan so we have been exporting it to them in the past few years
    -The accent he gave isnt bulgarian. Its more russian, which is also what some bulgarians also like to put on when they want to stereotype themselves. Its not offensive, we are used to it. Its a common inside joke for us to be confused for russians while we are abroad too
    -Most bulgarians will tell you that they dont feel good about the roma population since the government often benefits them, rather than the rest of bulgarians. Its a reverse on America and african american people, where here romas often get away with crimes rather then get blamed for them.
    -The head shake is true, but we also tend to sometimes do both ways. A nod and a shake can both mean yes/no , depending on the speed, expression and noise (if any) we make. So yea, dont rely fully on the head movements for answers if you visit
    -We are bulgars, but also slav. Both are correct but many choose to just call themsevles either or
    P.S. Really nice video, keep up the good work!

    Hey there, I just want to clarify the opposite nodding thing that is running around the Internet. The way that it is described is not correct. Probably its the easiest to say, but is misleading.
    Actually there are 4 types and that is what confuses the others.
    If you look straight forward and mark that head position as 0 then:
    - nodding vertically from 0 up and back to 0 means No;
    - nodding vertically from 0 down and back to 0 means Yes;
    - nodding horizontally at the same level as position 0 means No;
    - nodding horizontally, but in the same time incline the head like 11-1 o'clock and back to 0 position means Yes.
    In most cases you can use either of the two types of No or Yes and the horizontal Yes is the most confusing for you :)

    The thing with shaking the head and nodding is even more confusing XD. I think back in the days Bulgarians probably really nodded for no and shook their head for yes. My grandmother does it strictly. But with the globalisation and all the foreign movies and stuff, we too, started to nod for yes. And now we do both. You nod for yes but you can also you shake your head in agreement. Then you nod or shake your head as a way to disagree. And it's so confusing. So you have to watch the face and determine if it's yes or no. I love my country XD

    I love how you are confused about the yes/no thing. Actually we do nod for yes and shake our head for no but the reason I think why people think we do the opposite is that when a bulgarian asks us a question that has a yes/no answer, they usually add something close to ",right?" or ",is it.". I am actually not sure if I can really explain it so I will give an example:
    "There isn't any yogurt in the fridge, right?"
    And the other person nods, to confirm the statement.
    "Today is thursday, isn't it?"
    And because it isnt thursday, the other person shakes their head.
    To be honest, I have no idea if that made any sense at all but at least I tried lol. What I wanted to say is that most bulgarians dont shake their head for yes and nod for no. At least Ive never personally met any that do that.
