The cape has a huge function, it's actually also half a tent! it's called a "shelter half". You buddy up with someone and attach the capes together to make a tent to sleep at night. Almost all sides had cape tent designs like that at the time. If only they made the capes compatible with the enemy capes, then they could all have a big sleepover and campfire and be friends instead 😕
Another reason for a cap (though not used in the form of this game), is because as a runner and scout your job is not to infact engage and fight. It's to sneak and be unseen and analyze. As an Australian who grew up with the history of Gallipoli and Anzac, the Runner was a great surprise and an incredible story that I felt a strong reverence to play through.

Hi HannaH 🙂. To answer your query about the cape on the Runners, they're called a Groundsheet. Used to protect the runner in adverse weather conditions, a clean surface to lie equipment on to clean them or an overhead shelter. There is, however, a slight discrepancy. The groundsheet/cape didn't come into full service till 1916 by the British Army. The cape these characters are donning are possibly Australian variants.

Gallipoli was an absolute catastrophe. Something Britain and Churchill in particular should be absolutely ashamed of. Considering how hard the Canadian, Australian and New Zealand forces fought in both wars, it's pretty damn horrible how they were deployed and treated by the British Empire in the First and by Allied High Command in the Second.
A movie was made Gallipoli (1981) about two Australian young men joining the army and fighting in that same battle against the Ottomans at Gallipoli, with Mark Lee and Mel Gibson in the leads roles.

Battlefield actually took a big risk with the campaign “The Last Tiger”. You actually play as a Nazi tank commander, and it gives a unique perspective on story based war campaigns, by allowing you to see things from the perspective of the losing side. Turns out that huge risk was worth it, and it is to date one of the greatest battlefield campaigns of all time.
There's a supposed quote from Kemal Atatürk in regards of grieving mothers, which is pretty sad. "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore, rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours... You the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears. Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well."
Battlefield 1 definitly had some great stories, I can't think of a single one that's bad. Battlefield V also has a great story called "The last Tiger", it's a really good but dark one following a German tank crew in the ending days of ww2
All of the Battlefield 1 stories (and 5) are equally heavy, and some of the best told in this medium. I hope the studio remembers and goes back to this format of storytelling in their next game. You could pick any mission to watch and it would be just as good. I will be sure to tune in for the one you've done from 5.
Rule of thumb with World War one, either the person dies, is physically, mentally, or emotionally broken, suffers long term bouts of depression and anxiety even if they aren't broken, suffers from some form of disease from the trenches, or comes home only to find half or more of the friends they grew up with either died, were severely wounded, or utter wrecks. Literally some whole French villages after the war had a single adult male within a certain age range that was still whole in the aftermath. A war no one won no matter what the books say.
Coming from a military family and also serving myself. I have come to learn that war is horrible, but it also gives us a glimpse into the true nature of mankind. To believe and fight in a cause you believe to be true to your heart. Giving everything you have to a cause for people who would never know your name if you fell on the battlefield. Reminds me of a quote I heard from an stranger once; “We are all born into this life hoping we can make a difference in the world. We are all desperate to matter. But out there, there are some who are born into this life blessed with a higher sense of purpose, and pursue it fully understanding what terrible fate may await them if they continue down that path. In truth, these brave men and women never let any of us down, which is why many of them are no longer with us today.”
Appreciation for your self-praise, recognizing your own growth. The stories were always there to enjoy, but it makes a world of difference when you understand why it's told the way it is, and not just what's being told. There are some games that are impossible to understand if you don't understand the mechanics behind the game play, but a simple game like this that's just shooting and following button prompts would feel more like a movie than a game if you watch it without getting distracted by a bunch of familiar things flashing on the screen.
The funny thing is that the first part of the story are almost comical. You are the terminator. And then suddenly your world literally crashes to the ground. That las cutscene is so different from the first. Not o mention it hits like a gut punch.

@Cursed 8 Ball My little girl (who is five and a half years old) said she was going to do some drawing in my office. Fine. No probs. I had accidentally left my PC logged in. That game is called Hedon Bloodrite. She said, and I quote, it is a "fun and lovely game!" Check on UA-cam for a gameplay video of it and tell me how appropriate that game is for a five year old. The cape if used as a protective layer for the weather, but it was also used to lay down and stay off the dirt, and they even fashioned them into makeshift tarps for rain cover. Very useful piece of equipment for the time. These days we have more protective layers such as ponchos that basically fulfill the same role.
Being Australian and playing through that level definitely brought tears to my eyes and I would suggest you react to a video on ANZAC day it’s how Australia remember those who have fallen

Battlefield 1's story was extremely well done, one of the best FPS story campaign that made me look up a lot of people and places because I am a history nerd anyways. Battlefield V, not so much.
Keep in mind, these stories are the singleplayer campaign and are like, 1% of the game for a lot of people. The other 99% isn't really story driven, and is multiplayer, just back and forth fighting against other players. Not that it completely lacks a story, but these that you are watching are just the singleplayer stuff and not what most people buy these games for.
In my opinion, Battlefield 1 is a very interesting game regarding how it is a shooter, where players are meant to feel the action and adrenaline, but the campaign is written in a very respectful way about the horrors of war, especially WW1. It feels heavy and sad. Even if, at the end of each mission, you end up killing a bunch of dudes. It kinda goes along the lines of All Quiet On The Western Front.
I wish Battlefield 1 had war stories from the German and Austria-Hungary perspectives. Especially since All Quiet on The Western Front is one of my favorite books of all time and both the black and white original and the recent 2022 version are two of my all time favorite movies.
I just recently joined your channel and I really have to say that I love what you do here. It's a lot of fun and also very interesting to see how you react to certain games. And I was also hoping that you could do a reaction video on "For Honor" if you haven't done it already. I'm looking forward to future videos. :3
As an Australian can confirm we are immortal. If we can live on a island with Red back spiders, Tiger snakes, Salt water Crocodiles & Box Jelly fish, nothing on this earth can kill us lol. I know you are not short of videos to watch but I would love to see your reaction to "The Reunion" and the "Squadron 42 Cinematic Teaser" . The Reunion is a short story from the game Star Citizen, arguably the most ambitious and expansive games ever created and the most expensive game game ever to develop. It has raised over $500 million USD over 10 years of development and still is years away from completion, although it is now playable in an Alpha state (Not Feature Complete). If you like The Reunion there are lots more shorter in lore Spaceship ads which are really well done (I can provide you w/ a list if you'd like). Squadron 42 is Star Citizen's single player Campaign w/ a star cast including Gary Oldman, Mark Strong, Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson and many more. Anyway keep up the work - it always makes me smile. Love from Kangaroo Land
Despite have the video being only the cutscenes which I didn't like at first, after a while near the end of the video when Bishop was shot that since there is no gameplay you don't see all the regening and whacky stuff, but a movie showcasing bishop on his final day sacrificing himself for over 20 men.
As soon as I saw it was set in Gallipoli I knew it would be bad. That campaign was a fuckin' mess and tough for both sides. The Ottoman forces suffered heavier casualties iirc, but because they had good defences, great leadership from Attatürk and better supply lines, they won in the end though at great cost. For a solid but short history on the Gallipoli campaign I highly recommend Sabaton History's episode on Cliffs of Gallipoli.

There is another video where 60yo elders looked and reacted to this game. And of course. Many of them went straight to “To much violence” “It glorifies war” Yes. In a way it is glorying war. But war is real. Its not fictional. What those elders dont realise is yeah. This is a videogame set in world war one. A very important time in human history. Not pleasant. But important. Kids are playing this game. They probably shouldn’t be.. but if they are. They might as well learn something. And this game. Did that quite well. The campaign.. is deep.. emotional.. and pretty accurate.. the first words they see when starting the game. “ what follows is frontline combat... you are not expected to survive. We came from all over the world. So many of us thinking this war would be our right of passage-our great adventure. Let me tell you: It was no adventure. New killing machines, like the tank, changed the shape of the war overnight. Luckily they were mostly on our side. Mostly. Instead of adventure, we found fear and in war, the only true equalizer was death. They push… We push… Every once in awhile, we pushed hard enough that the light breaks through the clouds - so a world beyond the war glimmers. Just out of reach.... The war is the world. And the world is the war. But behind every gunsight is a human being. We are those people. We are the jaded. And we are the naive. We are the honorable. And the criminal. We are the bound for Legend. And the lost to history. We are the knights of the sky. The ghosts in the desert. And the rats in the mud. These are our stories.” I can tell you now. I had trouble finishing the campaign of this game. Not because it was overly hard. But because i was choking back tears the entire time. Im crying just writing this. Im an emotional guy. But im sure many who have experienced it agree with me. Im an Australian. And the runner? hits so hard it hurts. there is glorifying war. And then there is remembering violent times in human history. So that future generations can ensure it never happens again….
Bro fuck the guy who said you were faking your reactions you went from not knowing what a health bar is to not only recognizing you point it out keep doing you
I went to look through your videos and didn't see anything involving Undertale. It might be a bit hard to find trailers for it, but it is absolutely a wonderful game, perhaps not great for a starter, but I would take a look!
As someone part Turkish this hurts me to see the invaders getting such sympathy in this game instead of the actual defenders. Not saying they’re stories r sad it’s just that no one brings the attention of the ottoman soldiers😔.
@@beeeeeesbury what atrocities did the ottomans do that the British did not do tenfold during that time IN THOSE PLACES. Twisted western ideologies and medias
@Hamzah AbuAmri you misunderstand my comment friend, I'm simply saying what people believe. The actions of allied troops are often overlooked by the casual public
I'm not a big fan of "One Man Army" type campaigns, but Battlefield 1 at least made it believable and fun, and the stories are just some of the best, focused on feelings more.
BF1 has this really weird thing where the writers and developers seem to have vastly different ideas. The tone wibble-wobbles a lot and it feels weird as hell. On one hand they pretend to go for a “war is bad, this is so tragic” approach, but the gameplay is michael bay big dick action that says “war is fucking awesome”.
Just watch regular gameplay of battlefield 1. If you want an immersive experience then I recommend watching some operations gameplay. If not, I recommend watching the other battlefield 1 campaign cut scenes from the rest of the war stories.
I just remembered a game from my childhood that I used to play and it has great trailers if your into superheroes that became that way on accident anyway the game is called infamous second son maybe you could make a video on it please?

I’m not sure it is a “shelter half” by the design and the collar it looks to me more like a gas cape
I'd wager it could be a rain cape
Another reason for a cap (though not used in the form of this game), is because as a runner and scout your job is not to infact engage and fight. It's to sneak and be unseen and analyze.
Capes do a great job at breaking up your silhouette, and smoothing the roughness of your outline while laying down. From a distance it makes you much harder to spot. You can also use it as a sun break so your binoculars don't catch the sun.
The capes actually have many many forms of practicality and use, especially for scouts/runners/and snipers.

Thanks!!
The first video of yours that I watched was Non-Gamer watches part 1, that was like 2 years ago. Jesus Christ I feel old.
Nobody show her "spec ops: walk the line". Keep her hopeful pls
Hey Hannah, have you reacted or have heard of the game series Monster Hunter?
Thats not a cape thats a poncho and is used to keep you dry and can be used as a make shift shelter.
Yes, please keep doing more Battlefield Reactions. they have such great stories.
Best battlefield game we had in a long time absolutely beautiful of a game
Je suis trop fans de ta sensibilité et finesse de ressenti, j'espère que tu comprendra ce message, bonne continuation a toi!
I think I understood! Thanks!
You're coming to New Zealand!? Maybe I'll see you around lol

Hi Hannah. Loving the non gamer perspectives. If you want more TF2, I absolutely recommend the comic narrations here on UA-cam.
Making me want to replay this. Apparently there are a lot of people playing this somewhat older Battlefield game on the PC at least.
There is another video where 60yo elders looked and reacted to this game.
And of course.
Many of them went straight to
“To much violence”
“It glorifies war”
Yes.
These are our stories.”
I can tell you now.
New sub! great video keep up the great work
I kinda want you to see the new All Quiet on the Western Front movie (2022) but it might be too heavy for you
Bro fuck the guy who said you were faking your reactions you went from not knowing what a health bar is to not only recognizing you point it out keep doing you
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Why are you waiting till April to play games?
Because I have the month off from school and I feel like with school it will be too overwhelming to try and learn a new thing. But we'll see!
Hey any chance of you watching some more of the Templin Institutes videos on 40k lore. Genuinely one of the best pages for fictional histories.
I went to look through your videos and didn't see anything involving Undertale. It might be a bit hard to find trailers for it, but it is absolutely a wonderful game, perhaps not great for a starter, but I would take a look!
Noted! Thank you!
yeah
during combat and you get to know people and you are put charge over them
losing them tends to hurt
If you like these Battlefield 1 stories, Avanti Savoia is another really good one.
Looks like an older Hugh Jackman!
As someone part Turkish this hurts me to see the invaders getting such sympathy in this game instead of the actual defenders. Not saying they’re stories r sad it’s just that no one brings the attention of the ottoman soldiers😔.
This is because people focus on the ottoman atrocities, rather than the soldiers, similarly to most of the axis factions, though less so for others.
@@beeeeeesbury yea I understood brother I was just elaborating and taking out my frustration
As Australian we didn't need a game to respect the Turks
this game needs oscar
I'm not a big fan of "One Man Army" type campaigns, but Battlefield 1 at least made it believable and fun, and the stories are just some of the best, focused on feelings more.
Play this game multiplayer… you are gonna love this
BF1 has this really weird thing where the writers and developers seem to have vastly different ideas.
The tone wibble-wobbles a lot and it feels weird as hell.
On one hand they pretend to go for a “war is bad, this is so tragic” approach,
but the gameplay is michael bay big dick action that says “war is fucking awesome”.
Next should be Through Mud and Blood from Battlefield 1 and The Last Tiger from Battlefield V pls 😁
Just watch regular gameplay of battlefield 1. If you want an immersive experience then I recommend watching some operations gameplay. If not, I recommend watching the other battlefield 1 campaign cut scenes from the rest of the war stories.
Battelfield 1 greatest of the greatest FPS ever just a masterpiece❤️
Keep waiting for next part of bricky’s video
Coming soon!
I would love for her to actually play the game, it's awesome.
nice reaction!!, all battlefield 1 stories and some of Battlefield 2 are pretty good like this one, you should react to all them!
Those who avoid video games really are missing out
watch the winglet burning through space
Thanks!
You react all dlc in battlefield 1 that would be great I admit. 😅
You should watch Star Citizen IAE 2952 series it’s like 10 videos each a few minutes long.
ah yes...time to cry.
I just remembered a game from my childhood that I used to play and it has great trailers if your into superheroes that became that way on accident anyway the game is called infamous second son maybe you could make a video on it please?
Just found out "kiwi" refers to people from New Zealand
i want to see you react to the battlefield 1 war story "through the mud and blood" that was has amazing character development in it
