    I so conflicted. I have an XT1. Love the size of the XT30-2. I’m a prime shooter. I don’t upgrade cameras very often. I can’t afford the XT5 but want the classic negative Film simulation. Used XT4 for around $1200 or lower. Then there is weather sealing.

    • @SummersSnaps
      @SummersSnaps  6 місяців тому +1

      The XT4 is the better camera. Slightly larger but offering dual slots, WR and IBIS. Worthy upgrades. In fact the XT5 isn't enough of an upgrade over the XT4.
      At the time I purchased the XT30II it was roughly (new) half the price of the XT4. It seemed like a miniature XT4. If I could have afforded two XT4's I would have, but I couldn't so the XT30II was the compromise. But for almost half the price it offers the same AF performance, the same IQ, same filmsims and it is smaller. Battery life wasn't too shabby either (because it lacks IBIS).
      Both are great cameras, if you can push for the XT4 I probably would in your position, its a more pro level camera. I've seen the XT30II used market increase recently, to matching or trumping the XT4, which makes no sense imo. But if you can get an XT30II for a good price that's a good deal too. Really it comes down to value and the prices you're seeing.

      I'm afraid I have no input on the OG XT30, at the time I was researching the II version was the only one kicking about. The only problem I see from your needs with the XT30/II is lack of IBIS which would possibly be handy for your Instagram reels.

    Hi, really great video! I'm actually torn between the X-T30 II, X-S10 and X-S20. I primarily need it for landscapes (while hiking) and travel photos. At my place, X-T30 II and X-S10 (with 18-55) is priced similar but the X-S20 is around 350 USD costlier. But the X-S20's battery life tempts me more. How is the battery on the T30 II? I'd prefer a whole day worth of stills equivalent of battery life on the camera. Is the X-T30 II well-suited to take epic landscape shots given the chance? Do advise.

    • @SummersSnaps
      @SummersSnaps  Рік тому +1

      I actually have an XS20 now as well as the XT30II. It made sense for me to acquire the XS20 as my main camera is the XH2S and now I can share the same batteries across the two cameras (I plan to sell the XT30II). In addition to this the XS20 is PASM with Custom Modes, so I can set up my custom shooting modes similar on the XS20 that I have on the XH2S. And lastly of course some genuine upgrades like better AF, better LCD quality, more video options and IBIS (I also find the XS20 more comfortable to hold for all day event work).
      But that doesn't actually mean the XT30II is a bad camera or somehow inferior to the XS20. I never gravitated towards the XS10 because it uses the same battery as the XT30II and I felt the build quality was substantially inferior to the XT30II, I'm happy to report that the XS20 feels a lot nicer than the XS10.
      Image quality wise all three cameras will give THE SAME IQ, none are superior to the other (this is something I love about Fuji), so really your choice is based around features rather than IQ. XT30II is the smallest of the bunch, it is lighter and because it lacks IBIS (something that is quite possibly surplus to your requirements) the battery life is actually great! You might find that you're getting the same amount of shots on the XT30II compared to the XS20 despite the different batteries purely because you are leaving IBIS on in the XS20 and don't have that option with the XT30II. Of course if you turn the IBIS off in the XS20 I would expect a super long battery life. IBIS really does chew up battery life, if you also leave it to being always on (and not just on for the half press/shot) then that REALLY eats up battery life.
      So make your decision based more around the philosophy of the camera.
      XS20 = PASM, more video centric, slightly larger, higher LCD screen IQ, better AF, IBIS, has Nostalgic Neg filmsim.
      XT30II = Analogue controls, less video centric, smaller, lighter, slimmer, slightly worse AF, no IBIS, lacks Nostalgic Neg filmsim.
      If all you're planning to do with the camera is take landscape shots (where video and IBIS are arguably not that important), travel shots etc I honestly think you'd be fine with the XT30II and if you bought the XS20 you'd have paid for a lot of features you really won't be utilising. But then again XS20 is slightly more future proofing, should you come to want some of those features further down the line then the camera has them.
      Good luck!

      @@SummersSnaps Thank you very much for your detailed response. That clarified many things regarding my decision to go for the X-T30 II. It will definitely have a small form factor compared to the Nikon D5200 I have been using for many years, but I'm excited to see how it feels overall and adapt myself to the small rangefinder design. It will surely be a different experience than what I'm used to.
      Please let me know your thoughts on the camera's RAW processing abilities and dynamic range. I intend to try out the film simulations, and I'm sure I'd love them, but I also like to post-process my images in Lightroom. I've been hearing mixed comments about Lightroom's treatment of the Fuji X-Trans sensor outputs, but then again, many claim that the differences are barely noticeable to the naked eye.
      On a different note, how do you think it stacks up against the Canon R10? Both seem quite the competitors, with the R10 having a slight edge in the autofocus. Then again, autofocus may not be all that important for my use case. I guess Fuji has improved the AF significantly, but it is still lagging behind Canon/Sony to some extent.
      Thanks again for your assistance!

    Really useful video for me Eddy … helped me to make a decision between the xt 30 ii and the xt3 . I shoot sony for my pro work but have long wanted to get into Fuji partly to see the film sims and how it might improve my workflow too . Would appreciate your opinion on switching entirely to Fuji ? Cheers Gary

    • @SummersSnaps
      @SummersSnaps  Рік тому

      This is a difficult question to answer without knowing your line of work. I can only part with my own experience. I bought Fuji XT4 initially because it was $2k (AUD), and the XT30II as a backup ($1kAUD), then I sought out the lenses I needed and ended up with a pretty cheap pro kit (compared to similar FF kit) for weddings and events. At this point in time I didn't know about filmsims or how useful they might be to me.
      As time went by I appreciated more and more the option to shoot RAW+Jpg (RAW to one card, Jpgs to the other). As I scoured the net looking for interesting filmsim recipes I realised I was essentially 'pre post processing'. This has two benefits;
      1) In the field you are getting direct feedback that more closely resembles what you might be pushing the image towards in post processing. It can help you make better exposure and composition choices as you see in real time, qualities that might not necessarily shine through with a flatter response profile but now assisted with a deliberate render. For example I recently shot a youth orchestra rehearsals and performance, and because of my experience (up to that point in time with experimenting etc) I knew that loading in a 'Kodak 100 Ektar' filmsim recipe should really help drive those super wooden stage and instrument tones nicely, producing a deeper rich red etc. It worked a charm.
      2) Faster post processing. Although I chose wisely I still may need to make some adjustments, slight WB change, slight exposure shifts, but working from the Jpgs is less intensive on the system and generally far quicker. I am not having to hunt for a style that might work, I am just cementing a vibe already captured.
      But not all jobs can I be so fortunate, sometimes the Jpgs got me close to what I wanted, but really I needed to work from the RAWs, start from scratch.
      Coming from Sony you will likely be disappointed with the AF. I have done quite a bit of research on this and consider the XH2S (and only this stacked sensor camera) to be really the only Fuji camera to have decently performing AF (not Sony level but hopefully at a level that gets the work done without frustration). So much so that with the recent f/w 3.00 release I have sold my XT4 to port across to this camera. Review as to why I changed bodies forthcoming.
      If you're entertaining that switch also I would recommend testing the XH2S out, I would not bother with any of the other Fuji camera models if genuinely wanting a similar AF experience wrapped up with Fuji goodness. The others will likely let you down in some way or another (but it really depends on your line of work, I'm just guessing AF was important for you and a decisions in choosing Sony). Good luck!

    • @SummersSnaps
      @SummersSnaps  Рік тому

      That's a tricky one. Only you can answer that. XT3 should be the more professional camera, WR and dual slots, better specs etc, but then it lacks Classic Negative. I was in this predicament when I owned the XT4 and actually chose the XT30II. My reasons may differ from you. I knew the XT4 would be responsible for 90% of the work on that shoot, but that I also wanted consistency across my two cameras and didn't want to not be able to use Classic Neg because one camera had it and the other did not. I also rationalised that should the XT4 suffer some catastrophic failure on the day and I had to rely on a single SD slot camera to get me through the shoot, that if that camera also suffered a failure (or SD card issue) that really I would be super duper unlucky. I felt as though it was an acceptable risk to shoot one camera dual slot and one single slot. But everyone's comfort levels are different.

    • @SummersSnaps
      @SummersSnaps  Рік тому +2

      IQ should be the same. XS20 much better for AF but that will be geared towards subjects like people and wildlife, for landscapes it won't make a blind bit of difference. XS20 has Nostalgic Neg as an additional Filmsim Recipe that is not on the XT30II. XS20 should be much more expensive, so if money is scarce then the XT30II is definitely more affordable (in fact you could probably buy an XT30II and a nice lens for the price of just the XS20). XS20 has IBIS but again hiking shots can easily be done handheld or a lot are done tripodded for slow shutter effects (sky and water), making IBIS a bit redundant,
      I never said XT30II is the best camera, but I think its price point makes it extremely attractive and I don't see much point in paying extra for features you don't need. Figure out exactly what you want to do with your camera and look at your budget, you'll get your answer.

All they say is just that (and the name you give the Custom mode of course), but it's omitting the little icon with the filmsim and the abbreviation if you get my drift. So you might want to name for example C5 something more than 'C5 Kodak Max 800', and instead 'C5 NC Kodak Max 800' (and that the NC stands for Classic Neg) etc. That way it will let you know from a quick glance through your custom modes what the film base is from the abbreviation you give it in the name.
