The first time I saw a fossa at the Denver zoo, we sat and watched them for a long time. They were one of the first exhibits encountered. It's a great zoo if you ever go there.
Please don't go to a zoo and try to find open sanctuaries wherever possible. It's not a suitable environment for an animal to live in a prison cell for its entire life.
The only Fossa I saw in real life was a specimen in an enclosure in Antsirabe, Madagascar. According to what I was told it had been taken in as a pup after its mother had died in a roadkill but attempts to tame it had failed and it remained as wild and wicked as could be, hence it being in this enclosure. So I am told that there is a fossa in there and that I should not get closer than one meter (approx 3ft) from the fence, and man was that a healthy advice: As soon as I had reached that 1m line the fossa, which I hadn’t spotted, leapt from under a bush and went straight for me, all claws and teeth out. Had the fence not been there It would have been impossible for me to defend myself. One mean animal, the fossa.
