Riley explains that when he talked to LeBron after he signed in 2011 LeBron explained to him that the ULTIMATE GOAL for his ENTIRE CAREER was to win a championship for Cleveland, his home team. Fast forward to 2014 and LeBron is going to be 30 that December. He knows the end of his prime is in sight and if he wanted the best chance to accomplish his ultimate goal, he'd have to do so sooner rather than later which is why he decided to leave Miami. Pat Riley even says even if they did beat the Spurs in 2014, there's a good chance LeBron leaves that year or the following year. Just look at LeBrons reaction to winning back to back with Miami vs his reaction to winning last year with Cleveland, it meant more to him he even says so right after.
