I didn't even put that together
For the part about his older brother, so many mentions of pioneering goth/industrial bands. Einsturzende Neubauten, Alien Sex Fiend, Bauhaus, Skinny Puppy, Ministry.... those are all big names that influenced Trent Reznor when Nine Inch Nails was starting. First time I heard Blood Sandwich it was the first time I heard someone rapping about industrial.
As a someone who's native language is german, I will never not love how Aes pronounces "Neubauten"
Just in case of rough Waters, I wanna put one up for my brother's.
The whole Impossible Kid album is about his isolation and depression and working to come out of it. After Camu Tau (rapper and Aes' best friend) died of cancer he cut ties with the world and was hostile to anyone trying to help him. He moved to the country and wallowed in depression until he decided to seek help. This song is obviously about his brothers, but it's more him reminiscing about childhood with them, regretting pushing them away now that he's feeling better, and to show them that he still thinks about them in case the reconciliation is hard (just in case of rough waters). Talking about how he called his older brother up at the end shows he's trying to fix things.

The whole ‘Impossible Kid’ album was actually made entirely in a barn Aesop Rock rented just for the project.

This song is in my top 5 favorite songs of any genre. I am a middle child. It's sort of crazy how closely Aesop's music relates to people.

It's in the lyrics themselves my brother, Ministry made some good Industrial Metal too actually, not a bad band at all, but yeah definitely a demonic band, referring to the lyric "When your mom thinks Satan is involved in a band" lol
I like how you have to go back and listen again. I have to do that, too because his stuff is really dense. He packs so much into a couple lines that it’s hard to absorb initially.

Ps: ministry, skinny puppy, alien sex fiend, and einstürzende neubauten (I think he just calls them neubauten in this) are all big deal (within the genre) heavily influential goth guitar driven industrial type music? Hard to describe their music simply but they had a huge impact on my life as a kid too. I was also told I couldn’t go see them when I was young lol
