"Sensual" is a great choice of words, especially for the two guitars at 13:30 when one is descending in pitch as the other one is rising in pitch to intertwine their tones together.
The lyrics in this song are so funny to me because it's so relatable to being young. "You don't understand mama, he's a Magic Man!" That's how everyone thinks about the first time they fall in love when you're young. It's the epitome of "Love is Blind" lol.

This is one of my favorite songs of all time. When I was a kid in the 70s this song actually scared me. It has a very ominous feel to it and obviously as a young child I had no idea what she was talking about, so I thought it was about some evil wizard or something casting spells on people. Needless to say it made a real impact on me at an early age and I have been drawn to this song ever since.
I think it actually IS about an evil magician casting a spell on her :) I love it too, and have a similar experience of it being a bit of a dark song from childhood. Kind of like David Bowie’s Space Oddity (dating myself here).. that song made me cry every time as a little kid.. but I loved it. Or, Hotel California, same thing.
Spot on. This is a story about a teen girl who gets infatuated with an older man who has other intentions. "Come on home girl, he said with a smile. You don't have to love me but let's get high a while...." The guitar sustained notes and the solo itself sets the ominous tone throughout the song. Well constructed song that tells a story.
@@patrickupstream84 The song was actually autobiographical. Ann Wilson was talking about herself and her boyfriend/manager Michael Fisher. I think she referred to it as her "leaving home" song.
I very much enjoyed their cover of “Stairway to Heaven” at the Kennedy Center honors a few years back. The video is cool; they made the surviving band member cry.
In Washington state we were lucky to see the members of band playing in their own bands and touring the state when Heart wasn't touring. It was amazing the talent all their guitar players had and loved to play.
Wow, I've never heard you guys completely miss the mood and focal points of a song until now. More important than that is the GUITAR in this song! That steady vamp sets up a dark and brooding mood that the lead guitar plays against perfectly. Those tones! This is one of the songs that made me want to play guitar.
Barracuda has so much more edge because it's an angry song. It's their response to the way they were treated by the music industry and media. This is still from their romantic less-jaded first album.
Damn I love Anne's voice. Magic man and crazy on you were written about their guitar player who was with Ann are the time. They moved to Canadian Vancouver (if I'm not mistaken) for him to escape the Viet Nam draft. I believe she was in her late teens when she wrote these songs. Love heart. Glad you came back to them.
That's not entirely accurate. The guitar player (Roger Fisher) dated Nancy. It was his brother, Mike, that was the subject of Magic Man and was with Ann.
You guys should listen to this song a couple more times. I listened to Heart for years before I realized this was their best song imo. It's just constructed so well. Btw, this song has been sampled many times, and many different parts of the song were sampled.

In the end, it's all about good D, guys. 🤷🏻♀️😆

For no particular reason, I feel like now is a good time to mention that Ann Wilson and Jerry Cantrell teamed up to cover "Black Hole Sun" live in tribute to Chris Cornell, and that might make a good video to react to.
Heart definitely does great at capturing that kind of deep feeling; not just romance, but introspection and nostalgia as well. "Dog and Butterfly" is a brilliant tune, and very distinctive even within their own body of work; and just wonderfully captures that sort of introspective look back at childhood and growth.

Heart loved their off-beat rhythms on the guitar. They’re very obvious here in Magic Man, but also there in Barracuda especially in the outro in one side of the stereo mix (although disguised by the on-beat mirroring by the other guitar).
This song seems to me like an intentional slow burn that ebbs rises and flows but doesn't resolve much. I am pretty sure that was understood by the band. But who knows? It's a classic, though. Y'all are so funny in how you still give creativity and credit to the moment even when you voice your doubts. Very refreshing.
Dreamboat Annie is one of the finest ever Canadian albums made. Yes Heart were Canadian then, living in Vancouver and recording in Vancouver and touring Canada from Coast to Coast because the manager was falsely "Drafted" by the US Government, so they got out of dodge like many did. Even their American advertising was highlighted with "All the way from Canada-Heart.
Have always loved 70's Heart. George it's interesting that you heard a Southern Rock vibe, I've always thought it had a deep funk to it especially when the hand percussion comes in. Glad you enjoyed it, the Wilson sisters poured everything into their music and their band was highly underrated.
Everything they did up to the early 80s was varied and layered, with great musicianship. The 80s stuff sold a lot of records, but was pop, really. Her voice is fire , always, though.
as a 70's baby grew up on Heart and at the time was a guilty pleasure, only to learn nothing guilty about them, great band Ann and Nancy and rest of band great job.
The first time I heard Magic Man was at the Pensacola Fair. It was on one of those ride where you go around in a circle quickly and you squish your friend that sat on the outside. Really made that song stick. I like how Heart's guitar and drum sound are consistent throughout their songs. Also love the synth in this song. It's got that classic wizardry sound. BTW, with Eric Clapton in the news recently, it reminded me I saw him on the Behind the Sun tour. The hit song from that album is Forever Man. Good place to start if you haven't checked out Clapton.
This song is very much in the same vein as Sultans of Swing, where it's deceptively great. It starts out simple, almost comically simple, then keeps adding in new dimension on that simplistic style, until eventually you feel like you're in a different song, even though you're still rocking the same groove. It's masterful instrumental writing. Pink Floyd would do it, Fleetwood Mac, Dire Straits, and Heart. It's really a staple of the Classic Rock era.
Magic Man is a masterpiece. Such a classic, sensual sounding, 70's gem.

Heart loved their off-beat rhythms on the guitar. They’re very obvious here in Magic Man, but also there in Barracuda especially in the outro in one side of the stereo mix (although disguised by the on-beat mirroring by the other guitar).
This whole album is the greatest thing those sisters have ever done. Absolutely wonderful.
this is a bad ass song. No doubt. These women rocked
I've never been disappointed with Heart and btw Elton John was on the soundtrack for Lion king so yea Disney is pretty good
Have always loved 70's Heart. George it's interesting that you heard a Southern Rock vibe, I've always thought it had a deep funk to it especially when the hand percussion comes in. Glad you enjoyed it, the Wilson sisters poured everything into their music and their band was highly underrated.
This is such a classic.
Absolutely amazing! 🖤
Everything they did up to the early 80s was varied and layered, with great musicianship. The 80s stuff sold a lot of records, but was pop, really. Her voice is fire , always, though.
Try "Straight On To You" it's terrific
as a 70's baby grew up on Heart and at the time was a guilty pleasure, only to learn nothing guilty about them, great band Ann and Nancy and rest of band great job.
"Crazy on you" by Heart is fantastic and needs to be heard. As always, good work.
Whooooo will we see you react to the Kennedy Center Honors performance for Led Zeppelin? Holy damn cow, best cover ever made.
Guys, that is, Heart performing Stairway to Heaven, one of the best live performances ever.
@@Scott_From_Maine I'm obsessed with all of thier Zeppelin covers, so good.
@@Scott_From_Maine Yes!! It stuns me every time.
Check out Heart's Mistral Wind, great song that doesn't get as much coverage as their other songs...has a great build up.
