The impression I get from this is that the Pakleds were originally playing stupid to be manipulative (as a cautionary tale against real life people like that), then at some point the writers made them actually stupid. And when Lower Decks came out, that stupidity was rewritten to be more like the Orks from Warhammer 40K.

I can picture it now. A rusty Borg cube with ship parts haphazardly duct-taped to each face, crewed by assimilated Pakleds. "We are Borg. Do not resist. We are smart. We will make our cube strong. Your ship is strong. We will take your strong ship parts. We are Borg."
“You will assimilated. We are the Borg. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own.” “We are Pakleds. Can you make ship go?” *Borg cuts off view screen and uses trans warp to get out of there*

My head canon is that they pretended to be dumber than they were and the are also more vicious pakleds. So they aren't completely moronic they have some smarts but they play on their stupidity to outwit most opponents.
@moz zo The Pakleds can be a serious threat but still funny. But at the same time, they could be like the "True" Borg, a terrifying fore that cannot be reasoned with, and extremely hard to fight, and everyone keeps treating them like they are stupid. Because Lower Decks likes to poke fun at the general idiocy of Star Trek as a whole, making mistakes in judgement and action a real military, or just competent people, would never make yet Starfleet does it, chest puffed, like something else in their favor was supposed to happen, never seems to learn (much like the fandom. Time moves on and Starfleet is still the same peacenik dumbasses the writers let them mostly get away with through TOS and TNG), and the Pakleds are swinging and frequently hitting with the biggest stick driving this point home.
@moz zo I dont think that was a joke, I think they just wanted to make a new intimidating villain and tie it to the theme of Starfleet overestimating their knowledge of how things are in the universe
@@jameswg13 the Packleds were pretty smart in TNG. They came up with a plan which perfectly played to their advantages/disadvantages, and failed only because they let greed get the better of them. Yet they still got away with the upgrade the Enterprise gave, meaning the failure mode of their plan still resulted in a win. The Lower Decks episode has a good extrapolation of the Packleds, because it’s easy to imagine them scavenging Dominion War battlegrounds to make those news ships.
They can keep a ship capable of going faster than light in decent working order. They have to be smart enough to do that. Honestly, the TNG Pakelds make little sense.

So McMahon said in Season 2, the Pakelds will be a recurring adversary for a little while and dig deep into how they suddenly stopped being purely a joke. Interesting...
@Meanie Panini That is an interesting story plot that reminds me of the comedy movie called idiocracy where humanity has regressed in intelegence due to genetic drift so all the advanced technology made centuries ago is keeping their society together. Story follows two people who participated in a cryogenics experiment and are now the smartest people on the planet.
Honestly of the NuTrek shows (Dis,Pic,LD) Lower Decks is probably the only one I genuinely enjoyed watching. It's cartoon style communicates that it knows it's not going to be as good or as serious as OldTrek, or take itself so seriously like Dis and Pic. Instead it just gives us fun comedy romps in the ST universe. It doesn't break the lore like the other two(especially Dis), makes references to the old shows, and it is technically one of the few post-war content we have of the Prime Universe.
Yeah, really the main problem with Lower Decks is honestly that the comedy isn't good, but the writers clearly have a good grasp of Star Trek lore, unlike Discovery, which just sucked.
Gowron continues to be awesome. Either the actor or the writers understood the campiness of the game and added that wall breaking aside look - love it.
I'd forgive them for replacing the simple, slow, and subtle Pakled mannerisms for a more robust but traditionally dumb sounding voice. There's a reason why they are only featured in one episode of Prime Universe Trek, and I suspect it just takes too much time for them to move the narrative. And I'm sure a lie, edit, sorry, lore, could be developed to explain away this particular Pakled's behavior. But Riker shouting "Red Alert!" to the other ship after engaging in combat was just, I think they call it, 'cheese'. It was fun though.
"We are the Borg. Lower your shields and prepare to be... never mind, we will be on our way. We do not want your cultural and technological distinctiveness to make us morons. Carry on."
Yes. It was Chris Latta, going by Christopher Collins that played the Pakled in TNG. Someone else played the Pakled in the Star Trek Klingon game with Robert O'Reilly as Gowron.
Oh i just got the joke of these guys being the final boss of lower decks lol their big villain is the big underdog of TNG but seeing riker come save the day and open fire was so satisfying after that whole "Lets have peace with China" deal with the romulan stalemate lol
I love how they say "we are Pakled" as if that explains everything they are responding to and how Gowron imitates them in that regard it's the kind of subtle star trek humor that nutrek always fails to replicate and supplants with snot jokes and snarky teenager antics
It's funny how Garwron had to dumb himself down to speak to them so they could understand. It reminds me of going to walmart, there are a bunch of pakleds there they're called the managment team and customer service employees.
Hear me out, Pakleds and Ferengi should team up - they would be the ultimate mirror to the Human/Vulcan relationship. The scrappy opportunists who consistently prove that the assumptions and ideals of the Federation, no matter how strong they perceive themselves, can often be wrong. Also imagine how annoyed a Ferengi would get with a Pakled's simplicity in a similar manner as to how annoyed a Vulcan is with how illogical a human can be.
I like how Pakleds just show up all the time in the background of DS9. When I saw the Pakled listening to Gowron's invasion speech, jaw slack, I burst out laughing. Also, there is something really offputting about hearing The Motion Picture theme song set to a scene of the federation killing a bunch of Pakled while people cheer.

My head canon is that they pretended to be dumber than they were and the are also more vicious pakleds. So they aren't completely moronic they have some smarts but they play on their stupidity to outwit most opponents.
@moz zo
The Pakleds can be a serious threat but still funny.
In TNG they were facing the best ship Starfleet had, the Cerritos, though... they probably thought they could take her.
Gowron had the best crazy eyes of any character ever on film
i think Pakleds are actually smart but dont have any language skills and they think everyone else is dump for falling for there tricks.
JKwak : It's like a pro card player sometimes pretends to be bad at playing cards so he can win bigger.
They can keep a ship capable of going faster than light in decent working order. They have to be smart enough to do that. Honestly, the TNG Pakelds make little sense.
SlimThrull The Pakleds must use the heads or tails maintenance method.
@JKwak, you ought to fit right in. "dump" for dumb, and "there" for their?
And a run-on sentence with two separate subjects, and no punctuation to separate them.
Sheesh!
;)
Complains about others writing... starts a sentence with “and”
The funniest Gowron I've ever seen!
Remember Gawron before Worf stabbed the shit out of him?
"You will not have this...day."
Pepperidge Farm remembers.
How many people can say they killed *TWO* Klingon Chancellors within 10 years, and gain honour for doing so?
So Pakleds build there ships like Orks
@@ImAmirus Nope. There is a slight difference between Orks and Pakleds. Orks: They hammer every piece of tech they find onto their "vessels" and it somehow works even if the laws of physics say it shouldn't. And only because the Orks BELIEVE in it that it works. Pakleds: The hammer every piece of tech they find onto their "vessels" and it DOESN'T work. At least not for long^^
@@ImAmirus Ok^^ But that is simply the method of the Warhammer 40.000 Orks. Finding pieces of tech that looks orkish, nail them to their ships and even if the laws of physics say, that it shouldn't work, it does
@@Anthyrion "if we paint it red it makes it go faster" = 'item in question does then go faster' sort of thing?
@@Briggers0810 Right. That's how the Ork Tech works. Paint it blue and it brings luck. Black = Stronger
So McMahon said in Season 2, the Pakelds will be a recurring adversary for a little while and dig deep into how they suddenly stopped being purely a joke. Interesting...
Oooh that will be interesting to see I think
Borg tech I’m assuming. Some random drop that have the garbage men of the galaxy the power to turn garage into power.
I love Lower Decks for giving us a chance to see the Titan in full glory
Those eyes, those beautiful eyes
"GO GUYS! GO!" Is this a tandem bicycle or something? I bet the dudes in engineering are pedaling as fast as they can...
First time I've ever seen clips from ST:Klingon on UA-cam. Always loved that game. Thanks!
Gowron's 4th Wall Break, when he aims those bugged out eyes at the camera... Priceless.
2:39 The obligatory Riker "Red Alert".
Gowron out stupiding the packleds is my second favourite moment in star trek
The look of that Klingon captain was “I’m gonna play this f-ki’n schmuck for everything he has.” Hilarious.
@2:02 the Pallets are smarter than they look. They'd have to be.
Gowron continues to be awesome. Either the actor or the writers understood the campiness of the game and added that wall breaking aside look - love it.
01:59 I just about fell out of my chair when Gowron smirked at the camera. .😆😆
Give that Gowron actor an oscar ! Genius
Season 2. Borg unites with 8472 to defend from Pakleds but nothing works so they ask Q to help
Season 3 Pakleds invade the Q Continuum
"We are the Borg. Lower your shields and prepare to be... never mind, we will be on our way. We do not want your cultural and technological distinctiveness to make us morons. Carry on."
i never knew there were such glorious scenes from old star trek games!! im so happy rn imma find them all
I think Kim Jong Un might be a Pakled.
He looks for things that make boom.
People hating on the new star trek series are pakled, but tng joke pakled, not lower decks threatening pakleds
nah he is not playing the idiot,
maybe trump
@@JoducusKwak nope, thats biden, expect he doesnt realize it
@@kerosoldier no definitely Trump he's definitely a Pakled along with all of his cultist followers.
Pakleds, so easy to fool and easy to trick, but if you underestimate them, you will regret it.
One of the Pakleds is played by Starsceam voice actor Chris Latta.
I could be wrong but the main Pakled guy in the TNG episode was also the voice actor for Cobra Commander in the GI Joe cartoon series.
And Starscream too.
@@ShatteredGlassUnicron I think he voiced Moe on The Simpsons too before he passed away.
@@DeanStrickson As well as Mr. Burns.
The Pakled in the video was Joel McKinnon Miller, you guys would know him these days as Scully in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Yes. It was Chris Latta, going by Christopher Collins that played the Pakled in TNG. Someone else played the Pakled in the Star Trek Klingon game with Robert O'Reilly as Gowron.
The look on the Packleds face when the viewscreen comes up gets me everytime. "Oh shit, Klingons"
I had no idea of the existence of that Klingon game and I very much want more
Did they really use Goldsmith's TNG theme for the final battle in Lower Decks, or was that added by you, Grin?
No, they used it in the show, it was awesome
No they really did use it. Was icing on the cake.
@@hybrid5568 Awesome.
2:02 That face.
That face.
It is beautiful.
get you someone that looks at you like Gowron looks at the 4th wall
I didn't know the klingons could break the 4th wall like that
Klingons can break anything. They even killed their gods.
In this case he interacted with the player of the game. The whole game is about Klingons speaking with the camera.
@@nackteHintern what is the name of the game? i am guessing there are youtube play throughs that would be great fun to listen to.
@@sea-envy3137 Star Trek Klingon
@@nackteHintern i was afraid it was just that simple
Pakled should be added to Star Trek Online in the next expansion.
i might be wrong but i thought as federation you could play as pakleds
The USS Titan is so damn cool in “Lower Decks.”
Oh i just got the joke of these guys being the final boss of lower decks lol their big villain is the big underdog of TNG
but seeing riker come save the day and open fire was so satisfying after that whole "Lets have peace with China" deal with the romulan stalemate lol
Gowron cracked me up. His eyes are fun
I love how they say "we are Pakled" as if that explains everything they are responding to
and how Gowron imitates them in that regard
it's the kind of subtle star trek humor that nutrek always fails to replicate and supplants with snot jokes and snarky teenager antics
that's cause the writers are snarky teenagers who think they are the pinnacle of comedy
It reminds me of seven of nine responding to questions with "we are borg"
I hope Gowron stars in a Klingon version of The Office.
You have not experienced The Dinner Party until you've heard it in the original Klingon.
I love the Pakleds so much! Hope to see more from them in the future.
Pakled is my new favorite insult XD.
2:02
His eyes said: “Yup. This was the script we agreed upon.”
2:02 "I'm bout to play this chump for a rube" 😏😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Gowron talking to pakleds make me think of how a parent negotiates with a child
It's funny how Garwron had to dumb himself down to speak to them so they could understand. It reminds me of going to walmart, there are a bunch of pakleds there they're called the managment team and customer service employees.
Omggg that pakled in the Klingon game is sully from Brooklyn 99
Too funny Gowron and the Pakled talking. For just a moment I thought the Pakled was going to be too smart for him.
Hold up is that Pakled actually Scully from B99?
Yup.
He's playing Space Scully.
Somehow, i don't think the klingons would have been so 'understanding' , more like blow them up.
Gowron is a special case.
Gowron "Jim"ing the camera is one of the funniest things I've seen in awhile
Hear me out, Pakleds and Ferengi should team up - they would be the ultimate mirror to the Human/Vulcan relationship.
The scrappy opportunists who consistently prove that the assumptions and ideals of the Federation, no matter how strong they perceive themselves, can often be wrong.
Also imagine how annoyed a Ferengi would get with a Pakled's simplicity in a similar manner as to how annoyed a Vulcan is with how illogical a human can be.
All that was missing was "Janeway!" 🤣😂
1:55 - "It is difficult to understand... y'all!" 😆
I swear! Listen to how he says it, and you'd swear it almost came out that VERY-WAY!😉🤣😂
I like how Pakleds just show up all the time in the background of DS9. When I saw the Pakled listening to Gowron's invasion speech, jaw slack, I burst out laughing. Also, there is something really offputting about hearing The Motion Picture theme song set to a scene of the federation killing a bunch of Pakled while people cheer.
Yeah I will not even acknowledge that show “Lower Decks” of having any continuity to Star Trek.
thats because they steped up there game and murdered an intier crew and were destrying another. it was go time and the people chearing WERE BEING RESCUDE.
@@steveoh9135 way better than STD and STP. Lower Decks is honestly the best Trek in like 10 years or so
@@Shard18 That's a low bar but honestly, Beyond was good. And What We Left Behind blows them all out of the water.
@@Shard18you those new Star Trek is straight up fucking garbage! Lower decks feel like satire and callbacks to the classic and the characters give me a sensible chuckle. Didn't STD plagiarized major plot points from some guys game or something??
The Pakled captain from the Gowron game is Skully (Joel McKinnon Miller) from Brooklyn Nine-Nine!
I don't remember Bugs Bunny ever disguising himself as a Klingon.
@0:33 I recognize the obvious Klingon, Romulan, and Bajoran emblems. I see what looks like the Ferengi emblem, but what is that one in between the Ferengi & Bajoran? I don't quite recognize it.
That Pakled talking to Gowron was Scully, from Brooklyn 99!
"It is difficult to understand"
I love how he went full southern accent with that line.
The Pacleds from the Lower Decks looks like Batmen cowls! LOL!
Pacled = Discount Borgs
Love that little gowron smile
