Apparently, according to what I've heard, Szayel was under the effects of some sort of drug the moment the blade hit him that caused time to slow to a complete crawl (quite literally, one second feeling like one century). In other words, he more than likely lived throughout the entire speech, and then some.

    This is made even more amazing since it wouldve taken this speech what wouldve felt like centuries to finally reach Szayel's mind, and wouldve been the final thing he heard before his heart was stabbed, as he finally broke down and begged for death, the words "Thats is, if youre really a scientist at all..." wouldve rung out in his head before dying. A final footnote left for him at the doorstep of his slow, painful oblivion. The most complete victory I have ever seen for a character both physically, morally, and mentally.

    • @SpellFlare

      Even beyond that: The idea is to truly understand Nature and even trascend that understanding.

    • @8ihctgbiug471
      @8ihctgbiug471 6 років тому +47

      travis illerbrun I don't think that you people actually grasp what perfection means. Perfection, by definition, is something that has no flaws. If you see a flaw in something, like the guy in the video, then that isn't really perfection, it's just another flawed path or an ending.

    • @Darksaviour
      @Darksaviour 6 років тому +31

      True but the point of what he is saying is that Perfection is an Impossible concept because everything can be improved upon, as such perfection is just a dead end. Another quote similar is what Shuri says in black panther "just because it works doesn't mean it can't be improved" The Point is if you reach "perfection" what else is there to do? As a Scientist the greatest achievement is to go beyond the norm and surpass Understanding, If we reach Perfection what do we do from there? Example: if humanity has a perfect understanding everything in existence what is left for us to Learn? If he cannot learn anything else, how can we grow and improve? we would be stuck at dead end, being the same and never evolving. That one of the joys of getting to science at this day and age, while we have more understanding than we did 5000 years ago, we still have so much more to learn. So i pray that we never reach %100 understanding or if we do that we try and go beyond that.

    • @8ihctgbiug471
      @8ihctgbiug471 6 років тому +8

      travis illerbrun Again, you're missing the point. If in your eyes perfection isn't perfect, then it isn't perfection. Why do you people even think that the very end is perfection? Why not look at it this way: the whole road is a perfection in itself. What you achieve afterwards is a mere end of it. That's when you realise that you have experienced and finished the perfection.

  • @siriuslyorion2975
    @siriuslyorion2975 5 років тому +409

    "The perfect being you said? Well, I have to tell you the honest truth as I see it; In this world, nothing perfect exists. It may be a cliche after all, but it's the way things are. That precisely why ordinary men pursue the concept of perfection, its infatuation. But ultimately I have to ask myself; "What is the true meaning of being perfect?". And the answer I came up with was; "Nothing. Not one thing."
    The truth of the matter is I despise perfection. If something is truly perfect, that's it. The bottom line becomes: there is no room for imagination, no space for intelligence or ability or improvement. Do you understand? To men of science like us, perfection is a dead end, a condition of hopelessness. Always strive to be better than anything that came before you but not perfect. Scientists agonise over the attempt to achieve perfection. That's the kind of creatures we are, we take joy in trying to exceed our grasp, in trying to reach for something that, in the end, we have to admit may in fact be unreachable.
    In other words; you may think that we operate on the same level but you are wrong. The moment you started talking about perfection you embraced an impossible concept and had already lost to me. That is of course if you are indeed a scientist at all."

    • @darklord884
      @darklord884 5 років тому +21

      It's not even that. Perfection isn't something that's considered the best, but the very best thing that cannot be surpassed no matter how hard you try to. Mayuri's saying that claiming a thing is perfect limits your own possibilities about making it even better, punctuating his point by killing the f@ck out of Szayel both physically and mentally in an incredibly cruel way.

    • @decomposedcorpse5186

    • @darklord884
      @darklord884 3 роки тому +2

      @@decomposedcorpse5186 That would also kill all avenues for innovation. As Mayuri states, he considers it the goal of scientists to advance and better the things they are working on, but if something is declared perfect, that means they are stuck, unable to improve said thing anymore and as such, they would be failing their own roles as scientists because they would have a thing they could not improve upon, no matter how hard they tried.
      It's interesting you phrased it as something you don't "need to" improve as that's the exact point Mayuri is making. It's not just that improvement is not needed on something that is perfect. It's that improvement is impossible, which halts progress until the end of time forever.

    I feel like I cracked how the drug works; It might just be Adrenaline. When fighting, sometimes, I feel time slowing down, I realised, that after so much repetition, my brain started to predict, and hallucinate the enemy's body-language, Over, and Over, and Over, before it even happened, this makes me parry way to early in videogames, but almost perfectly in real life.
    Imagine being a warrior entity, devoted to perfection, a completely serene, and maniac being.... See how simple the movement is, being just SLOOOOW thrust... Mayuri's actions are as mean, and twisted as his words.... 😮

    If Perfection is ever something that is reached, where do you go from there? There's nothing better than perfection, and if there is, then what you attained before wasn't perfect. If Perfection even could be reached, what's the point in anyone else trying?

    The 'perfect being' you said... well... I have
    to tell you the honest truth as I see it. In
    this world nothing perfect exists. It may be
    a cliché after all, but it's the way things are.
    That's precisely why ordinary men pursue
    to concept of perfection, it's infatuation...
    But ultimately I have to ask myself what is
    the true meaning of being perfect and the
    answerl came up with was: nothing. Not
    one thing. The truth of the matter is |
    despise perfection. If something is truly
    perfect, that's it. The bottom line becomes
    there is no room for imagination, no space
    for intelligence or ability or improvement.
    Do you understand to men of science like
    us perfection is a dead end, a condition of
    hopelessness. Always strive to be better
    than anything that came before you, but
    not perfect. Science has agonized over the
    attempt to achieve perfection. That's the
    kind of creatures we are. We take joy in trying to exceed our grasp, in trying to
    reach for something that in the end we
    have to admit may in fact be unreachable.
    In other words, you may think the we
    operate on the same level, but you're
    wrong. The moment you started talking
    about perfection you embraced an
    impossible concept and you already lost
    to me. That is of course if you are indeed a
    scientist at all.
