When Tadayoshi pledged to kill himself he had not only insulted two Lords and incited violence (as explained), he has also committed other serious offences. Drawing one's sword inside the hall was, in itself, an offence punishable by death as was stepping a foot into the inner chamber. While executing children did occur, quite often a small child would be spared this punishment and sent to become a monk/nun in a far away monastery.
I know it was serious business at the time but the beef between Catholics and Protestants cracks me up every time it appears in the show. Also it wasn't that weird for Yabushige to ask the guy to compose a poem on the spot because nobles were expected to be able to do that. If a noble couldn't they were considered uneducated or uncultured.
Oh you are going to be swept along on this show's quality storytelling! Can't wait to see you react to the remaining episodes! Thanks for choosing this show!
I think they said in an interview that Toranaga's falcon was actually hatched specifically for the show. At the time of shooting, he was 2 months old and yes, his name is Shogun.
Welcome to Japanese culture. In those days, family status was very important. It was a time when the men of oldest had all the say and all the decision-making power, and it was common for everyone to obey, and no one was allowed to talk back. It was like that when I was young too. It is very interesting for people, but it is normal to us. This drama is very interesting to me. Because I feel real Japanese culture will show. Thank you so much for reaction.❤❤❤
So Shogun is actually based on the book i havent read it but I like what they have done making this. Y'all the best excellent points cant wait to see the rest!
It is a culture of duty and honor that had their way of thinking for thousands of years. It seems strange because we weren't raised in it. That mindset still is around today in Japan, with suicides being common there because of dishonor. Only today it is failing their family in their careers and other ways that causes it. Thousands of years of culture just doesn't end.

I was a big fan of the mini series when I was a teenager in the 1980s, but man, this version blew my mind. It's so good.
I'm so happy that you two started reacting to this show! Hope you enjoy the ride. 👍 from Japan
