I am Indian. My wife is East German, having grown up behind The Wall. I remember watching, in America, that fateful day in Nov 89 as the wall came down. 13 years before I met her. Our love was sparked by the music of the Scorpions. 2 children, and a lifetime later, we are in a different place, but those times will live with me forever.
I remember too my friend!! I was young , it was a huge event in our village when this happened! No internet back then, just black & white TVs and radio !
I heard this song for the first time on the in-flight entertainment system on the way home from my first of many trips to Russia. I had tears streaming down my face. It was 1990 and I had literally just walked down to Gorky Park myself. I experience the wind of change on that trip, talking to many folks and falling in love with the Russian people. It was a hopeful time and really beautiful to meet and interact with wonderful people after being cut off from each other for so many decades. I am profoundly saddened that the promise of that time has become so tainted with disappointment in the years since. I am also saddened that so many here in the west are hating on the Russian people when it is their current government that is so onerous, not them. Russian people, just like most of the people I met in the 34 countries I made it to during my years of extensive travel, want basically the same things we do: for their children to be safe and grow up to a good life, to have food and shelter, to be able to spend time enjoying family and friends, to have a purposeful existence and to have peace in their country. Please don't hate on people when it's their government that tends to mess things up. We should know.

And if you go back just six years earlier you might remember a time when we were all on the brink of being dead with fear and hate... and nukes. The past is never the utopia we like to remember so fondly when we get older. Back then I never knew if I ever would get older. That brief moment was an extraordinary time to be alive though, no denying it.

I'm an old man now. 49 years old. Some may say I'm not that old. However, life in the fast lane is catching up with me fast! At a tender 12 years old, my school friends & I were scared of 2 potential things...dying of AIDS & a nuclear holocaust. Neither of these happened, Thank the Lord. We learned sexual responsibility at school and...more importantly..the cold war ended. One day, Jew will embrace Arab, Muslim will embrace Christian, there will be no more divisions between creed, colour, race, gender, sexual orientation or opinion. Whoever you are? Who ever has given their precious time to read this? Let's make PEACE not WAR. Life is a tiny shaft of light in a, sometimes, immensity of darkness. PLEASE PLEASE let's learn to ALL come together in peace.
Philip Grimshaw wish we all can comprehend a little bit more about been human beings and not enemies of war.May the Good Lord always Blesses us no matter of race, color or your beliefs.Make Peace not War✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️

Margaret Thatcher said to Ronald Reagan. We can do business with Mr Gorbachev Thank God he listened. The end of the Cold War was the most important thing to have happened in my lifetime.
Colin Baldwin YESSS!!! And here's something not many know:. America's ignominious loss of the Viet Nam War caused an aversion to conflict in the American people and the American government that allowed the Cold War to continue until the Soviet Union collapsed from within... .
Great tune. Patrolled the West/ East German. This song brings me back to those days. I wanted to stay til the end. My first wife wanted me home. I missed out of history when the Berlin Wall fell. Had to watched on TV. @ my units reunion a few years ago so a picture of a train crossing a legal rail crossing as we called them. In the picture are US troops ( 2 nd or 11th Cavalry) the caption said when we saw the Americans we knew we are free.
When you really think about it, every kind of music has its time going back through the centuries even. Thankfully some musics prevail through time, like the magnificent classical music of the masters .Any truly memorable music will go on for ever as long as there are people to listen . I explore most musical genres irrespective of the language and culture, and listen to just about everything I can get my ears around. All the music we have lived through since the 60's will become the classical music of the future. Not including the popular garbage we have been bombarded with since the late 80's,with a few a few exceptions :-).

It is a good arrangement, but I prefer the original guitar and drum only version, but it's not often bands perform live in front of an orchestra, and this was well pulled off none the less
The Scorpions will always be an iconic band, and this song is my favorite by them. Its tune is so haunting and the lyrics take me back to my teens, when the Berlin Wall finally came down.

@@beenaplumber8379 Well, I really HATED Ronald Reagan because of him being the WORST U.S. President of the 1980's! After all, his policies were total disasters for America and the world especially with the biggest joke of all history: the Cold War! I saw NO REASON to forgive him and Mikhail Gorbachev for the so-called "winds of change" in the world.
@@teri8058 Well, I rather forget Reagan because of his foreign and domestic policies which were total disasters for America and the world. At least, he was very OVERRATED as U.S. President in the 1980's as well.
MIKHAIL GORBACHEV HAD BROUGHT THE WIND OF CHANGE TO THIS WORLD AND FOREVER BE REMEMBERED. REST IN PEACE 🕯
and yet there are some (like a colleague of mine) who still equate this man with the evil USSR. and sadly enough Russia and other eastern european countries could not handle democracy nor could they overcome the power of oligarchy and authoritarianism. even our old friend Boris Yeltsin succumbed to it in the end. RIP all them peoples.
I can't believe that he had passed away may he R.i.p
May he R.i.p
Mikhael Gorbachev was truthful but US turned out to be a traitor expanding Nato towards east breaking the peace agreement and endangering world peace.
Nice words.......
Listening to the song during the lockdown at Kolkata. Immortal song
Takes me back to a time when life seemed so much more simple .
Amen!
Amen to that. I wish I knew at the time just how good we had it.
@bipbip958 yup. Living the life as an Air Force in Bavaria in the 1980s was the highlight of my life. Then this amazing event happens, where millions of people were let free. Unbelievable
A 26 yo from the Philippines here. 😍😍😍
Bands of my time 60’s 70’s are still relevant today.
Always loved this song..
Look, guys no matter how you look at it, it's HISTORIC, for All of Us! We ALL Won and the Scorpions were the " Icing On the Cake" with their Fantastically, beautiful Song! History was made TWICE by Gorbachev AND the Scorpions! Wallow in the Beauty of such a Historic time! I do!
I can't read, but if you like it you can't be happy of today's situation, let's be brothers
@@phil84220 Phil thank you, reach out to as many in Russia that you can so they will know the reality of the brutality of Putin's war.
This is one of the most powerful songs ever written - from lyric to melody, every single notes and riffs!
I Love it since the day of its release to today, and I’m sure I’ll will love it until the day I die!
Me too!
Until my last day!
You still kicking? 🎉
Amen brother
Yes...hope never end
YOU need to run for POTUS! ( But what you say about embracing will only come when religion is discarded! Will not happen before that, as it gives every believer a superiority complex!)
Amen to that!!!
A timeless classic that will never grow old! It was brilliant back then and just as brilliant now!♥️
Klaus has kept his voice in great shape over the years, he knows his limits and has never really abused it.
I thought the same thing. Saw a concert on cable a while back. 30 years later, he still sounds amazing. Glad to hear them still performing. I still have my original cassette of theirs I bought in the 80s.
@@johnknouse6984 Agreed. I still have mine too! In fact, after I saw this video, I went back & listened to this song on the album & was pleasantly surprised by how Klaus still sounds like he did when the "Crazy World" album came out.
And he can still whistle with the best of them
@@john-boy4283 No doubt about it. 🤘
Most Importantly he never took up cigarettes! which have wrecked the voices of several great vocalists
This song is so timeless, amazing and still loving it, always 🤟🤟🤟
If ever a song captured the mood and anticipation of a feelgood human event it was this one .
these singers are among the peacemakers for this magnificient world . thanks to you
I have lived this since I was 16. I’m 51 and cannot get enough of it. It feeds my soul!
Thank you Scorpions for making me realise how precious our freedom is
One of the greatest rock band of all time..
😢😢😊
Margaret Thatcher said to Ronald Reagan. We can do business with Mr Gorbachev
Thank God he listened.
The end of the Cold War was the most important thing to have happened in my lifetime.
Colin Baldwin YESSS!!! And here's something not many know:. America's ignominious loss of the Viet Nam War caused an aversion to conflict in the American people and the American government that allowed the Cold War to continue until the Soviet Union collapsed from within... .
Colin Baldwin - I agree 100%. We're due for another "most important thing". The pendulum is on the way back. We'll see it soon.
Despite what anyone says, Ronald Reagan was one of the most important presidents in our history.
@@bryanseitz6235 - agreed, and despite what the lunatic left says, Trump will be another very important prez.
Then came Trump and reversed it all back!!!
The Scorpions & the London Symphony together, anything is possible.
Que lindo
Anything is possible, like East and West Germany becoming Germany 🙂
Beautiful Couple.. She is one clever, smart, unbelievably intelligent Lady… She is more than a wife… she is Jon’s best friend, and Respect him, his career, his way to handle His friendship with His loving friends, band mates…
I really admire her… I Love Jon Bon Jovi, endlessly ❤❤
It must've been such a thrill for the band -and as the composer of the song-Klaus in particular to hear the song being played by the London symphony orchestra .
Wow .
🤘♥️🦂👍
This is the first time I have heard this song & seen this video. I think this song is amazing. Scorpions r one my favorite bands. The Crow was one of my favorite movies. I love Brandon Lee. He has been a huge crush for a long time. He still is. Was devastated when he died. He had a great future. Miss him. ❤️ 😢
THANKS FOR THESE BEAUTIFUL LYRICS!

Great Band
Who could dislike this tribute and honor they must not want world peace

The orchestra adds so much to the beauty and majesty of this song. Brilliant.
It is a good arrangement, but I prefer the original guitar and drum only version, but it's not often bands perform live in front of an orchestra, and this was well pulled off none the less
God bless him from my heart
I love Scorpion and this is my favorite song because it brings hope and joy to my heart.
Peace and love to all who read this!!!🤗🤗🙏🏼🙏🏼
im 67 this year. didnt think id live this long. hope someone remembers to play this when i go . (sab SA 12/03/2021)
I really hope that Mr. Gorbachev enjoyed this concert thoroughly!
Your shining as bright star in heaven a good voice i love it
Legend forever
EL COMUNISMO NUNCA ESCRIBIRÁ HIMNOS COMO ESTOS...
I remember hearing this song and watching the wall come down. I shivered then and still do. It's a very important part of my childhood
@Draka Winkle - I think Germany should just ROT IN HELL and the Berlin Wall should be better off forgotten as well!
Absolutly brilliant. The best ever performance of an incredible song that will live forever
The Scorpions will always be an iconic band, and this song is my favorite by them. Its tune is so haunting and the lyrics take me back to my teens, when the Berlin Wall finally came down.
Yes! Born in our times yet destroyed in our times! We witnessed its Birth and its Death. We were beholden then to do the Right thing and We did! Take Courage in that!
Ca Khúc rất Đặc Sắc ! Với sự kết hợp giữa Dàn Nhạc Giao Hưởng và Hard Rock tạo thành một Bài " Symphony Rock " rất Kinh Điển !..mang lại cho Người Thưởng Thức Cảm xúc một chút gì vừa rất Sâu Lắng Trong Tâm ! 💓...Tràn đầy Niềm Tin Yêu Thương Vững Chải trong Cuộc Sống ! 😍...

Merry Christmas 😘
There is only one god.
Absolutely amazing how music can take u back to days that seemed like never ending! And now we scream to slow it all down!
What I like about the scorpion, the vocalist at his age his voice never change compared to other vocalist up to this days. The sting of scorpion voice still there. Long live scorpion.
In other words, they´re true legends. they should be immortal.
Do you know he had a pollap taken off his larynx prior to the blackout album? He's lucky he can still sing! It was questionable at the time. And fyi, it's not the scorpions, it's just scorpions
still sends shivers down my back, fantastic amazing song.
December 20, 1988 Frankfurt Germany I saw them live for the first time..
LOVED THAT SHOW!!!!!! Still have my ticket stub. Been a fan since i heard the blackout album when I was in middle school.
Klaus is AMAZING! I can only wish that I had the Singing Voice that I had 30 years ago! Awesome Brother!
From São Carlos SP - Brazil - Beautiful tribute to the legendary Mikhail Gorbachev, fantastic.
Your music was the best
This is such an awesome song one of my favorites. There are many winds of change if only they could all be for the good. This sounds great with an orchestra
This was the real music of 90s as far as i was enjoying this for the past 35 years.❤❤
