The main reason I want the Wicked movie to be animated is so that Kristin and Idina can voice the characters because nobody can sing For Good like they can
@@jackclancy7570 I'm sure she can, but she's just one person and I'm talking about the two of them together... She's also not name talent so wouldn't get cast in a lead role in a long anticipated movie
There was some interview where Kristen said that she goes to the lowest part of her range here (4:43), and that it's symbolic of Glinda finally connecting with her heart. It's a nice sentiment.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention that these two were the original Galinda and Elphaba in Wicked! The only reason I wasn’t freaking out at seeing them sing together is I’ve watched that video a million times because it’s so good!
I love that minor drop right near the end... " I do believe that I've been changed for the better".... they both they both drop in pitch and switch to a minor for impact... fantastic. Really makes you notice.
What I love about this is they’ve been out of these roles for years, and they came back and it’s like they’ve been doing these roles that whole time, and never missed a beat. 💜
I feel like they recorded this because they're good friends and they were just like "hey let's do something together that'll make the theatre geeks freak out!"
sorry to burst your bubble but it was recorded for the Wicked Musical as a "Out of Oz" studio session, theirs also 'defying gravity' with Rachel Tucker and Aaron Tveit
@@MatthewvMayo How are they being a debbie downer for educating you? You obviously didnt know that this was part of an "out of oz" special album which i beleive was created as special aniversary of wicked? And not just them trying ot freak out theatre geeks, and if you didnt kmow that then other may not either. Theres other songs too whichnare pretty awesome, some gender bent songs and unusal styled duets. It's pretty cool.
I don't think it is possible to truly sing this song as a duet, feel it, and not end it with a hug. I don't care who you are. Did you see when they performed this at the Wicked anniversary with all the actresses who played Glenda and Elphaba? I cried.
I love this so much, and this has so much meaning to me as I was in the audience for their very last performance of Wicked on Broadway. (7/18/04; I still have the ticket stub)
I've seen their "for good" video idk how many times and it never fails to make me cry. I just love them and the musical so MUCHHHH and i also just love Tara fangirl about musicals xD
I really love this song. Always gets me teary-eyed everytime I listen to it. So glad you made a reaction to this. Both of them sound really good together. The harmonics is just really good.
When my husband and I moved on from our first full time youth ministry, two girls in our group sang this song to us at our going away party. It didn’t help that they held a special place in my heart because I had help to mentor them; but it forever changed this song for me. I can’t hear it without thinking of that special moment, those special girls (both grown now) and how they meant every word they sang.
I saw these two in Wicked on Broadway, and the song (the whole bloody production) was amazing, but now that I see/hear them in this video, I’m astounded all over again. The harmony was just mind-blowing!
I just stumbled across this channel today and I have to say, I am emotional. I was always felt shut out by singers my entire life, I was never good enough to be with them or sing with them. It felt like I wasn't meant to sing. It has been 4 years since then and I still get emotional about it. So hearing Tara say that anyone can sing, really comforted and validated me.
This is one of my favorite videos of Kristin and Idina 😭💗 thank you for reacting to it Could you please react to Idina singing Into the Unknown live???
Amazing. Thanks so much. When I first saw Wicked in person, the way Elphaba and Glinda "switched vocal roles" near the end of this song blew me away. So glad you pointed that out!!
Wicked is the show that got me into musical plays, and this song has got to be my favorite from the entire show... especially when Idina and Kristin sings it. I am here to see Tara's reaction and comments but I ended up teary eyed from their harmony.
Watch the scene from RENT (film) when Idina is performing “Over the Moon”. She does the side jaw thing a lot when she enunciates certain words/letters.
Somehow I never knew about this official video for For Good back in the day... though I do remember watching and rewatching and rewatching some more all of Kristin's live performances where she gets audience members to sing with her and they're all magical
This has been saved in my Liked videos on UA-cam since it came out --- you can just tell that the years of working together closely on stage just have created such a deep admiration, respect, friendship, and love for each other, and that's exactly what comes across during this performance -- time just suspends and you don't want it to end!
Jenny yeah, same. I’m pretty sure elphaba always sings the higher part, at least in this song. And the original recording has idina singing higher too.
Seeing this stripped down version you can really hear their great vocal dynamics. I watched them again when they reunited again on Tony Awards : Broadway is Back. They sound so lovely!
I saw Wicked when it came out in my country in 2007 which catapulted me into a deep obsession and these two were such a big part of my love for this musical. Watched so many of their videos back in those days and although they are not my all time favorite Glinda and Elphaba, they hold such a dear spot in my heart
Tara love your channel. I sang (tenor) in our church choir for 13 years and I loved it. I did not start singing until I was 56. Fortunately our choir director was dedicated. I am proof that singing can be taught. Unfortunately I had to stop, our travelling affected my Diabetes, I am a t1 insulin dependant. Anyway I live watching you and the vocals you critique. Why hasn't a Broadway producer ever sought you out? You are a beautiful young woman with a great voice. Regards James.
Ooh and also how Idina and Jonathan both had relationships with Rachel, idina being the mother and Jonathan being Jesse... No spoilers lol, and Idina and Jonathon also starred in Frozen.
Honestly why has Kristin not had more fame. I know shes big but i feel like a lot of people would have no clue who she is just by saying her name. Shes a STAR
This video doesn't have J Hud in it, but it is one of my favorite recordings that came out of The Color Purple revival because of the cast reactions to Cynthia ua-cam.com/video/TYfokhkQKCU/v-deo.html. It would be interesting to hear Tara react to this
Your Broadway nerding out is adorable, and we all need more of it in our lives. Katrina Lenk doing “If I Were a Rich Man” and Lilias White’s showstopper version of “Don’t Rain on My Parade” are my humble requests. Always a joy to watch you!

Always interesting to hear a vocal coach analyse how singers interpret a song & love listening to Tara analyse famous singer's technique - absolutely love this particular song from "Wicked" - you should look up Idina Menzel sing "Defying Gravity" at her Barefoot at the Symphony concert, it's absolutely spell-binding watching her sing this particular interpretation.
Just pure perfection. I can't not wait this December to introduce my niece to the world of Broadway with Wicked. I hope she will love it as much as I do.

@@Rosannasfriend That's what they meant. Tara is saying that normally, Glinda always stays on the higher harmony including in the bridge, but that they happened to switch for this performance. In reality, the music is written so Glinda always sings the low harmony in the bridge. EDIT: actually, listening again to what Tara said, Tara is not wrong either. She is saying that in the other songs in the show, Glinda always sings higher. But because they've been "changed," they are now switching for this song. She's saying it's a cool symbolic choice in the music. Kalinda Kelly, I misunderstood what she meant the first time too.
Idina has always done the side jaw thing. She also does an interesting technique when she is singing a word that starts with "n". She goes into it with an "l" sound. I first noticed it in Wicked.
OK so this song means a lot to me and especially you posting this video on this day. Today would have been the 25th birthday of my dear friend Michael who sadly passed away October 2018.
