- We got a call for a Land rover, range rover that had become stuck in the sand near Sand Hollow State Park.
They were able to send me GPS coordinates, so we were able to locate them without too much trouble.
They had made it in quite far before getting stuck.
We were able to get them out, and turned around without too much trouble, but the range rover would not drive out without periodically becoming stuck. The sand had become too disturbed to carry the weight of the range rover with the tires it had.
We ended up helping the range rover with the tow rope for about a half mile until we got on firm enough ground that it could move under its own power. We had about a half mile left of driving before we made it back to pavement.
It was fun to watch the customer put the range rover through its paces on the way out. Lol

I knew a pulp wood farmer in Alabama who owned 4,500 acres of pine 🌲 trees! He was a relative of a friend! He let us deer hunt! We came on the weekends with the finest 4 wheel drive Jeep’s and trucks money could buy!!! He laughed and laughed at us ! He always drove a 2 wheel drive Chevrolet pickup or car ! We never saw him get stuck!!!

Not familiar with the new Landrover but I doubt he had it electronically set up for sand. Even the ride height can be adjusted .
Hasn't adjusted the ride height ,street tyres and probably hasn't got the right drive mode .
The RR was on totally wrong tyres.
That terrain would have been a piece of cake with right rubber.

Sand is a really different beast. Matt's jeep Is light and has massive contact area, it's skipping around. Ramgy is really good in muddy Wales but not sure about this

Yup. Tires (or tyres in case of a Range Rover 😄) and air pressure in them are by far the most important components of successful driving on reasonably flat but tricky surfaces like sand, snow, deep mud etc.

@@LandCruisin Yeah, but as I said, low-profile and they didn't have a lot of blocks etc. as usual, it wasn't an aggressive pattern like for example the BFG ATs, but that kind of 20/80 tires plus they're no use if he doesn't air them down
@@nils895 You don't need an aggressive pattern to drive in soft Sand, you need longer print, his mistake was not letting the air down. Sand driving is all I do in Australia in LR Discovery low profile road tires, never been bogged, just run the right pressure.
Any car on earth will get stuck in that sand with 3 bar tyre pressure. Need to let it down to atleast 0.8 bar

Huh, on paper, it looks like the Range Rover is very well equipped to deal with this type of terrain. Unfortunately, the low profile tires really work against it.
I think low profile tires are a bad idea even for street use. They ride rougher, it’s easier to scrape up your rims, and it’s easier to damage them if you hit a hole or a bump. I’m not even sure they look better (but I’m an old fart so what do I know).
Sashazur low pro tires just show off your $5,000 rims better. That’s why they like it lol
It you want to off road buy a proper off roader.. f*CK range rovers... Range rovers are for posers, keep your "off roader" in you're allocated space outside your posh apartment.. easier for them to tow it when it won't start! That jeep didn't struggle once... Didn't cos a fortune or make you look a dick either..
It doesn't look like they have the ride height jacked right up, plus they have no idea.
Range rovers are one of the best off roaders money can buy, But in reality poor alloy choice will stump you everytime, Technically the RR is better off road than the jeep just poor tyre choice, And in this case the air suspension was not raised up and the terrain response was not set in sand mode, lack of knowledge here is the problem. I understand RR are very good off road as we have a lot of 4x4s.

That Range Rover is a BEAST even with its bells and whistles, BUT, you can have the best 4x4 in the world and if you don’t have the right TIRES your not gonna get enough traction to the ground to put your 4x4 to work, no matter how good it is, PERIOD!!
That thing did decent for having low profile summer tires. Throw some decent AT tires on there and AIR THEM DOWN NEXT TIME and I bet he doesn’t have a problem at all.
That's true, one of last luxury SUVs which is really capable off the beaten track, if it has proper tyres and someone who knows what to do behind the wheel.
The problem isn't the vehicle, it's the ground clearance you get for the money and novice driver. I was buried that deep with my lowly Jeep patriot on soft sand. Also with crappy road tyres on. Got out and aired down and dug some space and drove right out.

NightStalkerDNS yeah it has adjustable ride height they never used it Range Rovers have had that ability since 1995 the vehicle should have over 11 inches of ground clearance

Funniest thing that I've seen all year. Thanks Matt for this. You can see why we call them Chelsea Tractors (Chelsea is an area of London) because they spend their lives on the school run and doing shopping. When he tried to keep up I just lost it!
I wonder if there’s anyway to make a spring-loaded reel mounted to the back of your Jeep, Matt. That way the slack in the rope would be pulled in and prevent the possibility of it being run over. Not sure if it’s possible to make one tough enough but sure would make longer distance tows easy.

Low profile, fully inflated high PSI street tires. I bet nobody on scene knew how to put the 4x4 selector to SAND.
The modes really do make a difference, especially sand. I've seen them pull off some real magic even on the wrong tires.

Gotta set the Terrain Response to Mud/Ruts (the sand mode is not the best) and air down. Really it needs some A/T tyres and it would be heaps better in sand!

I used to work for Land Rover in the early 1980s when they were producing the first Range Rover “classic” as we call it now. It was a solid axle on coils configuration, ladder chassis, very similar to the JK, had a CDL and optional LSD, and equally as capable as the JK.
Comments on the low profile tyres accepted, but it’s pitiful to see what the Range Rover has become today, an overpriced small luxury apartment on wheels, useless for what it originally was designed and made for.
To see it stranded on the flat like that broke my heart. It doesn’t even have any ground clearance anymore. Shame on Land Rover. Needless to say I prefer my 1995 80 series Land Cruiser lol :-)

I have plowed snow for about 40 years never had to get pulled out with my trucks or my cars. but I had too dig myself out more than I like to admit. I ben binge watch your vids the last Couple of days.I know for a fact the first time I would drive in that sand I would need you guys to pull me out. I had a blazer back in the day 4” frame 4 spring 327 in it. I think I would have liked to have tried it in that sand. pretty shore I would have Buried it.
