I ended up at this gig almost by chance, happened to see it mentioned in a local paper. Joe Strummer and Mescaleros Firemen strike benefit gig Acton Town Hall. I lived about a mile away then and had nothing on that night. I went up there but of course all the tickets were gone. There were Firemen collecting money in buckets for the strike fund outside and one of them saw me trying, asking about tickets. He ran after me and said "I got a spare, put a fiver in the bucket"...result, I was in!! I was buzzing for weeks after that night.

Tough to watch this video because had Joe not passed away I think a Clash reunion would've happened. Joe had hinted at it being possible and seemed to want it. Paul seemed the only one to have moved on but it would've been amazing to see them for just one final performance. Sadly Joe passed away but before he left i'm glad he had the chance to play with Mick one final time. I think Joe's passing re-ignited the passion to play music in both Mick and Paul since both have new bands now.
This video brings me to tears every time I see it. It was almost like fate that the reunion happened.. sure only 5 weeks later Joe left. His legacy, and The Clash's legacy will live on. R.I.P Joe

I don't know where the audio track was taken from ...but it's kind of fitting that right up to the end Joe Strummer was Still getting the lyrics to own songs wrong ....
i saw the clash loads in the 70's and early 80's, although most of the time everyone was drunk or boozy. but what a fuckin ball. i hit 16 in 1976 what a time to be alive, every generation thinks this, but punk rock was the most amazing thing ever in my life.
It's creepy how they buried the hatchet and ran through a couple songs barely a month before Joe passed away. Sometimes, the universe has ways of speaking to us all..........
Dude, you don't know the story. Joe Strummer was laughing when he fired Mick Jones. They always remained friends to a certain degree. Joe was just tired of Mick being late and lazy..... and Mick didn't blame him. They were friends for years before Joe died. They never reunited because Paul and Topper both had health issues, and Paul wanted to leave the past the past.
Mark ONeill This is correct. The semi animosity really only lasted one or two years. I think Big Audio Dynamite’s first álbum came out like 2 years after Mick left the Clash. Not only did Mick invite Joe over to play the album for him before the release, but Joe was in the video for the single from that album, Medicine Show. Joe also produced BAD’s second album. It’s still a big deal that they played together here. Joe always wanted to get the band back together.
You are so spot on,I always just sad hello to my mate in passing in a shop last year as our life's were so hectic, then on one night we both stopped and spoke for about 15 minutes it was really nice and said we meet up,1 hour and fifteen minutes later after talking to him he died in his sleep,he's wife tried to wake him up after he rolled over and did a big sigh, but he had gone.he was 49.im still gutted.
Yeah but spirit only gets you so far. Strummer needed Jones and Jones needed Strummer. They both needed Topper and Paul. That's the way great bands work. It's alchemy.
@@LeGrandeOrange Mate, with such statement on "how (un)important was Topper and Paul in The Clash as a rhythm section..", you've just show how little know about The Clash. @@andchat6241ive wondered how he remembers bhindi bagee as well 😂
i still tear up watching this!
i saw the clash loads in the 70's and early 80's, although most of the time everyone was drunk or boozy. but what a fuckin ball. i hit 16 in 1976 what a time to be alive, every generation thinks this, but punk rock was the most amazing thing ever in my life.
Brilliant! I wish I'd been there. This was a benefit for the Fire Brigades Union and Mick was a surprise guest.
Oh my, never saw this video! Warms the heart!
泣きそう😢
I was at rhis gig, right at the front on rhe left.
Incredible in so many ways.
RIP Joe.
the first time they were on the stage together in just over 19 years....and the last time :(
It's creepy how they buried the hatchet and ran through a couple songs barely a month before Joe passed away.
Didn't they bury the hatched years before this? They wrote together for BAD from what I remember.
Just sucks we never got to see a Clash reunion.
Number 10 Upping Street was essentially a Clash album. They never really broke ranks, just found different things to do.
you can Never have a Clash reunion with out Joe. He was the Clash. Bad Idea.
I'm watching this without sound and you can just feel the intense energy coming off that stage!
Can hear it when Mick plays those 2 songs, no offence at all to Mescaleros, saw them 3 times but it was a different animal when Mick played here.
Oh hell call it what it is, this is The Clash, heart and soul. Not taking anything away from Topper and Paul but this really was it. It's the spirit.
Yeah but spirit only gets you so far. Strummer needed Jones and Jones needed Strummer. They both needed Topper and Paul.
That's the way great bands work. It's alchemy.
Arguably the rhythm section was just as important to The Clash's sound as the dynamic between Strummer and Jones was.
@@kevinkibble8342 Well, important, yes. But just as important? I'm not so sure
@@LeGrandeOrange Mate, with such statement on "how (un)important was Topper and Paul in The Clash as a rhythm section..", you've just show how little know about The Clash. Just listen what Joe&Mick's been talking in any interview on Topper's importance and drumming skils in late development of the band, as well as Paul Simonon importance.
@@LeGrandeOrange Perfection is a lot of little things done well. Not to mention we wouldn't have tracks like Guns of Brixton or Rock the Casba without Paul and Nick
You just made my day!! We miss you so much Joe!
Joe was amazing live.....this Last crucial gig is no exception
Rip you came into my life at age 13 and impacted my life in amazing and wonderfull ways.
haha like to see people so young that likes the clash. well i'm sixteen and i've love them for years when i got mind about strummer's death i got down...wanted to see them live punk not dead!
The chemistry between these two was amazing I am sure they would have reformed, probably the greatest live band ever.
Sounds so good compared to most live versions !!
This is his last concert?
The Clash is the best band for me. Forever !
He played two more gigs after this, but with Mick joining him in stage here, this is the one that is most remembered.
Last London gig
Gracias por colgar éste video. Brutal!!!
Great to see Mick, Joe and Tymon together after all these years!...
...wish there was also a topper drumming!!! :-/
And Paul on bass;)
More passion, feeling and emotion in this single performance than all of One Direction/Timberlake/Bieber outputs (multiplied by 100) all put together
wow they sound fuckin great
20 years ago and I still regret not going
simply awesome
each time i see this, i get a little sad...
fantastic, just wish i was there.
@MrBlairblack "You're my Guitar Hero" I'm pretty sure. R.I.P to Joe, a true legend of humanity and music.
