Joe's 1966 fender telecaster as classic a joe strummer: This was Joe’s favorite guitar. He bought it in 1975 second-hand. Just prior to this, Joe was offered £120 to marry Pamela Moolman, a South African citizen, so she could obtain British citizenship. That’s how he got the money! The guitar was originally sunburst, but in 1976 when the Clash was formed, influenced by Sex Pixtols, Joe wanted his guitar to look more authentic. He took it to the auto body shop, where the guitar’s body and pickguard were refinished in grey auto primer and then painted with black automobile paint. Joe’s Tele is filled with stickers and various slogans which changed over time. At the first stage the word “NOISE” was painted just over the pickguard and two stickers were added. One seen on the pictures above saying “Ignore Alien Orders”, and other was probably a Rastafarian flag at the bottom of the pickguard. About that same time there was also a small sticker just bellow the guitar controls, that wrote “War” but it was scraped off and disappeared with time. Later on, the “Trash City” sticker was added just behind the bridge, which was also changed to the one that has individual saddles for each string. Original Kluson tuners were replaced with Fender “F” style tuners and a large question mark was painted on the body’s back. Since Joe’s death the guitar made appearance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum after which it was returned to Joe’s family
Back then.....I can live without seeing him play with miley cyrus at a superbowl halftime show. Does anyone follow the stones anymore? I mean, you gotta stop some where, but I agree, Joe is my god along with lemmy, but let it go, the music let's him live on forever and this is proof
@@FreshRigs if you knew just how much money was on the table for The Clash to get back together which they repeatedly turned away you wouldn't ever even think that but you might be a bot.
I'm 61 now, funny how the Clash passed me by, I thought Joe Strummer was an angry man and didn't pay too much attention to him, I could not have been more wrong in this judgment, what a great legacy he has left from the time of Punk and beyond, because his music will live on.

Joe Strummer was such a big influence on my life. I can't begin to tell you. Saw the Clash for the first time when I was in the 6th grade on a show called Fridays. It was a late night tv sketch comedy show. Joe however was a very serious man. A third father to me. Thank you Joe for teaching me some things.
Saw Joe with the Clash a few times and with the Mescaleros a few times. Some people have to work at it to be cool.....some people are just born cool, Joe was one of those!
That's right. He said it himself. He was no communist, but his ideas always were on the left side. Joe didn't pin himself to just one idea. This guy was a visionaire, and smarter and kinder than any politician.... I can recommend the book "Let fury have the hour: the punk rock politics of Joe Strummer" by Antonino D'Ambrosio. Gives you a great idea of "Strummunism".
there was tears in my eyes when he went and greeted the people doing Bankrobber, you could tell he was loving what he was doing and mixed with the powerful lyrics it was just magic.
As we near the 14th anniversary of your passing Joe... I miss you like I'd miss a brother, you changed the way I think and feel anout my life! Viva Joe Strummer!
get the "smoothers out of the way" man i miss that guy soo much and am glad that i saw this Tour in Hartford CT a few months before he passed. I had the great fortune of meeting him after the show and couldn't believe how earthy and humble he was; he made me feel in the most sincerest way that he cared about me and my life as much as i cared about him. people say that meeting your heroes can be a great dissapointment, but with Joe it was not at all the case. RIP Joe, RIP!
He was always like that. I first met him in a nightclub in London in 1978 when I was a little idiot punk rocker, and he was totally gracious and genuine and prepared to give up his time. Much love to him x
haha i love the fact they open the show with London Calling... the line "London calling, now don't look to us, Phony Beatlemania has bitten the dust..." and the other guitarist hadsa big John Lennon sticker on his guitar.
