yes my friend it is an thats where im going and when i get there im gonna kick the hell out of maggie thatch lol. oh and also shake hands with bonn scott
Sean Kraus They would’ve really smashed this if Nicky/Topper Headon was still on the drums - such a shame they sacked him cos of his drug use. Joe always regretted it and said the Clash were never the same again. Anyway, God bless you Joe you legend.
Still my favourite Clash song. Absolutely ace. Joe Strummer is an inspiration to us all. So much love for The Clash. I'm 17 and i understand this music, that's what enduring music is: It's for anyone who feels the music in their souls, no matter where or when they're listening to it or who they are. The Clash remain the greatest Rock n Roll band in history.
That build up at 3:49 is FUCKING EPIC. Its just a couple of notes but it gets into your soul. This is definetly one of their best and I think the song represents The Clash at their peak.
There ain't no asylum here , King Solaman , he never lived round here, straight to hell boy. Ain't that the truth. RIP Joe , your spirit will never die.
Clash could do anything...reggae, jazz, pop. we can only dream what they would have done if they had stayed together longer, but their body of work is sublime, and we love them for it!!!!
After a long night of partying back in the 90's and trying to get home safely. Put this on in the car and always made it back. Calmed everyone down. Would never condone our stupid behavior, but it was a queue for the end of the night. Miss he stupid days.
The best Clash song never gets old..all I can say is the rhythm or intro to the song is one of the best ever!! The meaning and feel for it is one of a kind!! What a special group they were!
Joe Strummer was born John Graham Mellor on August 21, 1952, when his father, a diplomat, was stationed in Ankara, capital of Turkey. So, he felt the spirit of Anatolia where is the cradle of the all civilisation. RIP.
pre- antiquity in asia minor now known as turkey...was troy and the khumry people after the trojan war fled to britain where they are now known as the welsh=germanic for stranger...so they were made to be strangers in their own land
the clash gigantictly UNDERrated..top 5 alltime....RIP JOE..you will live forever through ur music...thank you for the music i grew up with....the best
That year, the Clash - to break in the new drummer - played 3 small town Texas shows. Unprompted. A carload of us drove to Wichita Falls , TX on a rumor. In a theater on Main St, 300 souls were hypnotized. Not one of them will forget it.
I just bought this reissue LP album last month. I was completely astonished. This album proves how important they are in music histry. By the way, vinyl record is such a treasure!
Weird comments. When this came out when I was in grade 10, many years ago, I was knocked off my feet. Can't say much knocks me off my feet now (there are a few, but lots of yawning). This song still get me and this is a superb version and I don't get the sampling comment because it's irrelevant because we are talking about this song, not derivatives from it.
Just incredible how you coped with the tech problem there but for me I wouldn't change a thing. Keep keep coming back. Wish you were here Joe. Sorely missed xxx
The kind of people who are complaining about MIA and her sample would never have been in the spirit of The Clash to begin with. They were a band that appreciated and covered other artists and genres and stood for something.
The sound at this venue must have been horrible. It takes Mick and Paul time to get it together. Joe never takes his thumb out of his right ear so he can hear himself and in some spots falls flat & I'm not even a musician I can hear it. So he improvises to get back. Look it's a live performance so you deal with it. They extended the instrumental parts to get back into key. In spite of everything they pull it off somehow. A great tutorial for garage bands in a bind.
Helene Papageorge You sound like someone who is in some mediocre cover band that thinks you're great because you've perfected copying other people's work and have the expensive equipment to make it sound "correct". This is the epic Clash, it's punk, it's all heart. Meanwhile, your lousy cover band is completely dooshy, nobody will ever care about your crap music no matter how many pedals and amps you buy.
+Helene Papageorge This was the last gig Mick and Joe played together in The Clash... the sound was crap because it was a massive stage at the US Festival. Joe and Mick were barely talking to each other at this point.
@@tfrye724 And you sound like a fool. This guy is not only right about what he's saying, but if you could actually take your head out of your ass, you'll realise it's not even an insult to your cult (that is actually a band). These guys are musicians and you should treat them with the respect they deserve, they are good, and we know it's certainly not because they're bad that this happened. What have you done for music yourself mmh? You're spreading hate in here, on the comment section of a great band. I can't stand people like you, please do fuck off
a melhor banda de todos os tempos e o melhor líder de banda de todos os tempos Joe Strummer. the best band of all time and the best band leader of all time Joe Strummer
thnks mate, anyway i knew it... im from spain and a friend of mine who went to canada brought me that book. I´ve seen you also like johnny cash... thats very good, you like good musicians thanks again
They were a band. Thats enough said. They were just a band. Anyone can do this. Even more so today. Whats sad is I'm not seeing this come out of the new groups today. Where the fuck is everyones roots to music. There is so much fake out in the world. The Clash showed their true colors and respect for music. I can only wish someone would be smart enough to see through and make their band true.
how old are you guys...80 something? don't you know musicians have always pick tunes from one another without this being a problem? on the contrary everybody wins, mia has brought this song to new generations and what she did it's called sampling that is so common in hip hop and music nowadays.... this is one of my favorite clash tunes ever and when i heard mia's song i liked it alot too, voila
So sad that people came here because Norman Reedus and not by themselves. Well, at least they're here and not in a Justin Bieber or Tokyo Hotel video. Peace out!
The Clash-"Straight to Hell" one of the greatest songs of all-time. Definitely the best Clash song. (in my opinion)
yes my friend it is an thats where im going and when i get there im gonna kick the hell out of maggie thatch lol.
oh and also shake hands with bonn scott

maddogwalt 😆
Train in Vain
definitely the encapsulation of their whole career into one song
Easily the most depressing song by the Clash, and one of the greatest songs of the 1980s. This live version is amazing.
+Max Seuberlich I agree, it's not perfect and that's why it sounde even more touching than the original one. and amazing...
I agee

Agreed.
Still listening to the same stuff at nearly 30?
You're 29 now pal, hope you feel the same way
Joe was a lovely, articulate & humble man. First met him in '79 at a Clash gig in Manchester. Very much missed.
AWESOME!!!
This is a HARD song to play live. Well done, boys.
Never get tired of listening to this song, every time this comes up on my play list for some reason the volume goes up.
Love it RIP Joe Strummer X

Ain't that the truth. RIP Joe , your spirit will never die.
Frank Zappa what does they mean with no asylum and king salomon ?
Bullshit/Inhumane Logic for telling immigrants they're not welcome.
Love the bass line in this song. The Clash lives on!!
Me too but u know, I think is a little bit out of tune in this performance haha
this is their best song.
yep
RIP Joe Strummer (1952-2002).
Mistress Lucy Johansson we will miss him
I'm watching this now on what would have been his 68th birthday, R.I.P Joe, best gig I ever went to in my life was seeing him
1952-Infinity
Clash could do anything...reggae, jazz, pop. we can only dream what they would have done if they had stayed together longer, but their body of work is sublime, and we love them for it!!!!
But if they stayed together we wouldn't have Big Audio Dynamite
One of the best live performances ever done. Also, intro as the basis to Paper Planes. Such a great footage!!
The only band that matters
What a song,what a band! Deep lyrics.Moves me everytime I hear it.Regret I never saw them live.
After a long night of partying back in the 90's and trying to get home safely. Put this on in the car and always made it back. Calmed everyone down. Would never condone our stupid behavior, but it was a queue for the end of the night. Miss he stupid days.

Great song. one of my favorite clash songs. such a powerful message in each verse. RIP Joe.

the clash gigantictly UNDERrated..top 5 alltime....RIP JOE..you will live forever through ur music...thank you for the music i grew up with....the best
Still the best recording and live band to have ever existed in Rock-n-Roll history. I wish I was older than 14 when Combat Rock tour was happening
I want born yet. at least you existed during the same time.
how i miss the clash and joes muzic ..............................r.i.p. joe
best band out the UK in those days - and probably ever.
That year, the Clash - to break in the new drummer - played 3 small town Texas shows. Unprompted. A carload of us drove to Wichita Falls , TX on a rumor. In a theater on Main St, 300 souls were hypnotized. Not one of them will forget it.

1983 US Festival!🎉
I think this was the US Festival. It was Mick's last appearance, and Topper was already fired.
one of my favorite clash songs.
It still gives goosebumps, such a great song
I just bought this reissue LP album last month. I was completely astonished. This album proves how important they are in music histry. By the way, vinyl record is such a treasure!
Fantastic version of an incredible song.
I like the live version where Joe says, "Sing in tune ya bastards!"
... THE CLASH - STRAIGHT TO HELL - eines der besten Songs in der Musikgeschichte für mich!
one of the most creative rock songs ever. aarrghh!
"Thumb in ear" so he can hear his own voice better -- this was in the days before in-ear monitors.
This is the best version of Straight to Hell. They were epic when they were live. Joe Strummer
I love on the "Live: From Here to Eternity" album, the part on this song where he's like "Sing in tune you bastards.". Gotta love The Clash.

Doesn't matter who started Punk. The Clash perfected it and rocked harder than anyone ever has.
Why was I born in 85?! This is pure genius. Good drumming. Joe sounds amazing.
The kind of people who are complaining about MIA and her sample would never have been in the spirit of The Clash to begin with. They were a band that appreciated and covered other artists and genres and stood for something.
My all time hero,Joe Strummer.Thank you for this Video!
One of my favorite songs from the clash 😎 some many ways you can take it ..me lover me some clash and thank you 😇
I hate mortality.

Best band, and frontman in the world!!!

I saw 'em one time and it was a non-event. Oh, well.
If you look at his face, it looks like he is struggling with the pitch or key of the music. I dont care, its a great video. I love the Clash, RIP Joe
In context, probably the most valuable video I've seen on YT.
