I don't mind who they cast as Snow White. The actress they got, I mistake quite often for the actress that everyone wanted in some dream casting scenario thing. The actress they got looks like she could be the dream cast actress' sister or cousin. It seems like they did some compromise on trying to get who a lot of people wanted cast in the role.

Because their ideology is just a tool to justify ripping into people and policing the world for the sake of validating their undeserved superiority complex. Without these big campaigns to hop on, they're just whining about not getting what they want. But if you can contextualize your annoyances with the world through an entire group of people, then its pretty easy to guilt trip people into serving your wants. Most of these people view other people as either a threat or a means to validate their own ego, even the threats are just going to be used to boost their ego when they attack them. I can't count the amount of times I've told my white friends they're worrying about stupid shit no black person cares about (like daisy being whitewashed even though she's already white and she never had tan skin) and then they delve deeper into their narcissism and say "WELL I CARE". Like that even has any worth to the people you're "trying to help" and not just distracting away from the problems they actually want people to hear about. Message to anyone reading this, just analyze someone's language. If they're talking more about destroying someone or serving justice than they are talking about reform or additive change then they don't care about the cause. They care about being an authority. Most of these people are megalomaniacs. Good thing is, they're horrible at hiding it.

My personal controversial take I'm starting to hate the word representation/Diversity because people who cry about representation/Diversity are acting like they never had it when they did. it's been a thing ever since B&W, 80s 90s early 2000 films and shows etc.

These words capture exactly how I feel about the whole diversity/representation focus. As an Indian, I see myself in plenty of film and honestly, even when I don’t watch those movies, I have stories and history of my own nation, and people which are much more validating, and in my opinion much more amazing than anything Hollywood dishes out, but I don’t need to see Indians every single show in order to relate to the characters or feel validated by the show.
You know, the idea of representation in theory sounds good, but this shit is ridiculous.
I remember when media wasnt about seeing your literal self but an escape, or a fantasy you know you cant reach. Thats what made it fun. Idk maybe im a boomer now.

So many characters in media nowadays are defined by their diverse trait, and that's it. Sometimes they don't even DO anything for the story, so I'm just left wondering why? I can't imagine it feels good to see an aspect of yourself represented as a non important side character whose only purpose in existence is pandering to you. People like characters, so give them character traits

Most of these ads are very ham-fisted and cringe, but If the customization options help some people playing the games to enjoy themselves more, and it's not harming anyone, then I don't really mind that much.
"Representation" has never been a good thing. If someone can only see themselves and empathize with a character in a series because that character has a different skin color than them then that person is racist, that's all there is to it. That's all "representation" is, thinly vailed racism.
I agree and disagree because I believe representation makes one feel seen. But you shouldn't rely on a characters attributes to feel like you relate to them. I love representation and like Wes said "you don't have to see yourself in everything". You not gonna die if you're not represented

They are basing their personality almost strictly on some intrinsic characteristic that they cant control and doesnt matter. Either they should be able to feel seen by just any character going through a similar situation or feel seen because they themselves did something. Not trying to piggy back on something else just because of some immutable trait.
And as you said its not like someone has to see themselves in everything even. So at this point there's literally no excuse, we are just encouraging bad behavior at this point when we continue to prioritize this type of characteristic based "diversity".
@@GiRR007 your point is kinda dumb, representation is good point blank, if done right, not like this bullshit shows that just change a actor color to please people, Miles Morales is a good representation of his enviroment, and his color (in the spiderverse movies atleast) are never brought up, he is a New Yorker like Peter Parker but from a different part of the city, and he brings the hip hop aesthetic into the spider man idea, the same way other spider mans also bring a different aesthetic into spider man, and that aesthetic carries a culture and history which people can connect beyond the color of someone skin.
And i guess you are american so having your culture be represented is never a issue, but to me as a brazilian i have to this day only seen 3 good representations of Brazil in media that pleases me, Giovana from Guilty Gear Strive, Samuel Rodrigues from Metal Gear rising, and Eddy Gordo from Tekken. because we brazilians are stereotiped as HELL, our big ass diverse country filled with different stories and cultures is only represented as favelas and carnivals in Rio de Janeiro, i would love to even see anything different from that overplayed aspect, there is a lot of good things in our culture that even brazilians dont know about because our media like the rest of the world focus on the stereotyping of Rio de Janeiro, i want to see a character from the South part of brazil which is where i live in a big movie or series, representing our way of live and values, because then the future generations can look at that character and associate themselves with it like "ooo so thats what a Gaucho/Brazilian is like? shit i want to be like him"

They actually couldn't hire real dwarf actors because when Peter Dinkleberg caught wind of this production he got pissy that they would have to hire 7 different dwarf actors rather than casting him as all 7.
I'm going to say this, I don't think no one needs to be represented in any media. What makes characters relatable? Their personality, I'm a girl who relates more to Hiei from Yuyu Hakusho. Fantasy is fantasy, fantasy is about making characters perfect according to your ideal world. It's not real, it's just something to escape to. I can admit that I'm fat, I don't look nothing like Chun-Li but I like her because I admire her physique and strength as a martial artist as she is. She's been my idol since I was a 6 yr old little girl playing SF2 on the sega genesis and I aspire to be in shape like her. I know it's not easy but when I see Chun-Li I just want strive forward and workout. She's not mexican nor fat like I am. She's a slim, in shape Chinese woman.
You can never represent everyone and even if you tried there's always someone who will complain that it wasn't enough. I've seen Coco and while I did like how it represented Day of the Dead, I never saw myself nor did I relate to any of the characters in it despite being Mexican. I didn't care, all I cared was that I saw a pretty decent movie about Day of the Dead and that to me was good enough.
One more thing, it's not a crime to want to see characters be depicted as accurate as possible. Snow White for example, I expect a black haired white woman to portray her, there are plenty of those women who could be cast as Snow White but nah, let a latina woman be Snow White. No. People could say "maybe she's the right actress for the job." I respond to that with there are many white women who could have been considered but they deliberately casted someone who is not white as snow. As for the elves? It's just laughable how ridiculous they look.

Easy to say that when your culture is not one that is hidden and forgotten about lol, im brazilian and the Brazilian culture NEVER got a honest good representation, except for Giovana in GGSV, Samuel Rodrigues the GOAT of MGR and Eddie Gordo from Tekken, my country has a LOT of diversity in the culture department, but the whole planet only focus on the Rio de Janeiro, favelas, carnivals, samba and footbal part of it, out of our 26 states, only ONE is represented in media, while america has a billion movies about every single little boring ass metropolitan city. I WANT to see my culture and my region be represented because there a lot of unique things about that are very cool, a lot of history in the way we talk and the words we use in our dialect that nobody will ever know because tourists rather go to a favela tour instead of going to any other place in Brazil to know more about our culture, there is a lot of potential here that i want to see in a big screen, because Brazilians in general always support brazilians dont matter if our cultures are the same, but we support even more if its something so relatable to us, because its whole generations of people that will be pleased by seeing their culture have a light shining on them.
You got look further than "oh my god people only care about race", because when is something related to a culture it goes deeper than that, i dont want race to be the focus i want cultures, i want to see more different cultures be represented in anything because if you start looking at how crazy and cool some people are in this planet you will start to understand it, thats why The Witcher games have such a cool folklore in it, becuse its not British folklore, its slavic and its very unique and not just a generic goblins and dragons world.

I'll be honest, I've never once thought about diversity because I just didn't care. I still don't to this day, I suppose with all talk about "seeing myself represented" is what annoys me as well as the race/gender swapping nonesense. Though, the culture part is not what I thought of. Culture would be fine being represented and yes, I admit that for Brasil the only thing ever seen on screen are zamba (or is it samba?), the dances, and that's really all I can list.
