I mean, the best evidence for that is that the last time someone defeats Thawne, the big bad villain of the entire show, it wasn't Barry, but Allegra. The writer of the show had his insert character defeat the show's biggest villain (that he didn't create) in the final episode with one blow; it's bad fanfic territory but it's super funny because of it.

For me and my parents, it was the lack of communication. One character finds out about something but doesn’t tell the others cause “They’ve been through enough I don’t want to add more” or “I can handle this on my own” when multiple times, the whole keeping it to themselves did nothing but cause or escalate problems. Just no self awareness

It's pretty incredible how, with few episodes left to finish the Arrowverse, they just release pure filler in the last Flash season. It's like if, in the penultimate issue of the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" event, Superman suddenly said "Hey guys! Wanna do some racing before our final showdown with the Anti-Monitor?", and then the whole issue would be just about the DC heroes and villains playing Mario Kart. It's just INADEQUATE

    • @ZebsAlleyOriginalMusic
      @ZebsAlleyOriginalMusic Рік тому +11

@@theoutsiderjess1869 Not even close, I would say the best episode in my opinion is Season 1 episode 23 or episode 9.
Closing the Loop has too many inconsistencies with things set up in previous seasons to be enjoyable for me.
For example, as early as Episode 1 we get to see both Thawne and Barry come out of time Portals at night speeding to the Allen house - Retconned, Barry and Thawne were in the past all day apparently.
Thawne says they ran back in time during their final battle as Thawne ran back in time to kill Barry and future Barry pursued him - Retconned, Barry and Thawne randomly got placed at that point in time by the mysticism of the positive and negative speed force.
Nora informs us that Barry ran back in time while fighting Thawne during their fight in crisis and never returned resulting in the "Flash Missing, Vanishes in Crises" headline. This obviously gets changed and Barry never "vanishes in crises" but this demonstrates the inconsistency in point 2. Barry and Thawne never had that fight despite them supposed to have had it.
It just goes on and on, I haven't even gotten into the fact that the original Barry we see in the past in episode 23 and the one we're watching are from separate timelines so this Barry needing to "close the loop" doesn't make sense with it's own time-travel rules. The Barry that "vanishes in crises" already did that. The one we're watching isn't the same Barry. Thawne even explains this himself in season 1.

And though a more mature Barry was closing the show, I had the feeling that Grant's heart just wasn't in the delivery. Don't get me wrong, he did his best, but I think he may have felt chained by the powers at be to to deliver their image and their vision of the Flash's ending. What makes a lot of superheroes interesting is their solitude how like they are carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders. One topic that's interested me that people never talk about:
In the arrowverse, the The Flash is supposed to be the superman stand-in and Green Arrow is supposed to be the Batman stand-in (originally). The dark powerless vigilantly friends with the warm-hearted all powerful superhero. By that I mean arrow is a batman show about not-batman and the flash is a superman show about not-superman (because of licensing rights).
The above is a claim that was made by Panda Red. What I find interesting about this claim is. . . the forces and the negative forces, alot of people hated their inclusion. . . but they are the stand-in for DR FATE. Or more specifically, they are the stand-ins for The Lords of Order and Chaos. I hated the forces inclusion too as well as hating how they made the speedforce sentient. . . until I understood this is what they were going for.

I know the quality dropped the past few seasons but the Arrowverse will always hold a special place in my heart, up there with the DCAU and Smallville. Loved it all. Sad to see it go, should bring back the 20 episode seasons, limited series just dont feel as special to hear announced.
When we heard about shows in 90s, 2000s and early 2010s we knew they would stick around and we'd be watching them for a long time, but with limited series now we get them for like what? 2 months? maybe 3? and then it takes them 3 or 4 years to make another season, looking at you Invincible. Even supes and lois only has 13 eps a season, and they just go on break every 2 weeks to stretch it out which breaks up the momentum and pacing of the show

That just felt like they added that as another way to be like “oh yeah he’s got a bunch of reasons to be bad”

the problem with the flash cw is something that I will always compare to a show called dr. robot. In doctor robot you had a large cast but for the majority of at least the first season you ultimately only followed one character.
The Flash season 1 did this. In season 2, it tried to share the spotlight a little bit more with the supporting cast and by season 3 I believe that's when the issue became incredibly apparent. That issue is a revolving door spotlight. Characters aren't allowed to exist in the background, you can no longer have a hero who is the central character. Now the entire cast is the main character. Because of that, the show ultimately lacks a core focus. If you can't focus exclusively on one singular thing then ultimately it gives you nothing to care about.
The problem isn't that they under utilize characters like Iris, in fact the problem is the opposite. Everyone had a spotlight and because of this, they were all overused. You have this problem in live action more-so than in animated projects _(even animations for the arrowverse on the CW seed didn't have this problem)_ and for the life of me, I have no idea why.
They had no supporting characters whatsoever because the show itself has no supporting characters. It only had main characters and because of that, everything in the world felt empty. And this is a not a writing problem; not a budget problem. This is a problem with direction. You can have all these stories AND story elements that the side characters are having, but you don't have to put a spotlight on it. Some things can just happen in the background and can be brought up in passing/mention without showcasing it. Infact it would be better this way as it would leave an element of mystery for you to solve "what happened".
Just as an example of this, imagine if episode 2 of the four part finale just didn't air. Instead when Barry returns in episode 3, what if the characters might just say something that references what happens. Context clues that something happened with the side characters without actually shoving it in your face of what happened. It doesn't tell you everything that happened but it gives you a clue and that has you intrigued where now you're curious. All of a sudden, you are adding more entertainment value to the same exact story simply by just saying less.
I think that's one of the bigger problems of the show. The old proverb of "show not tell" stays true here except they found a way to "tell" through showing. They are saying less with more rather than saying more with less.
    To wrap it up (tl;dr):
The problem isn't the writing, it's not the story and it's not the budget. The problem is the focus or lack thereof that the show simultaneously has and is missing all at once. If everyone is super, then no one is. Nothing exists to boost the focus up because there is no focus.

In season 1, when Barry runs his clothes get shredded from the air pressure around his body. The answer to this problem was his costume that was made for the high air pressure.
What they dont explain is why the people he saves, usually by carrying them while running, don't die and are in mint condition when Barry puts them down.
In fact, we actually see Barry in later seasons running without his suit.
I surmise that the speed force is creating a protective barrier around him since he, himself, is the creator of the speed force. As he runs, he gets more powerful, which causes the barrier to expand.

I don’t think it’s that the flash is outdated, that’s unfair to a lot of great shows that come from this time. The primary issue from the flash was that the writers couldn’t find common ground and each wanted to do their own different thing, the best example being how Killer Frost’s powers worked being changed every other episode, this lack of consistency opened the flash up to doubt which led to Eric Wallace being hired. And while he’s not the one who killed the show, he buried the body.

I can believe there is a long term love going on between Clark and Lois. I just don't feel that with Barry and Iris, he had infinitely more chemistry with Supergirl. Whenever those two shared a screen it was like seeing best friends just giddy to hang out and it was joyful.

And generally on cop shows the trope is that you have new coming criminals to defeat. But in the comics Barry is so fucking fast that it takes teams and recurring villains to do any damage to him, and if they had utilized those flash characters better it could have made for an awesome show. Like if the trickster had had a Riddler revamp like in The Batman, he could have been a at least half season villain that had talking points about mental health and maybe Barry realized he could do more personal things to individuals to improve morale and health within his city. But nope, we got some convoluted half baked B-plot that I can hardly remember. Like legitimately does anyone remember him? cause I only remember the episode where he tried to kill Barry's dad and barry saved him and revealed his identity. WHICH HIS DAD JUST SHRUGS OFF?! Outside of the red death and cobalt blue episodes, there's like 2 episodes that are worth watching while half the season was just pure filler with characters that only Eric Wallace seemed to love. Cecile was so much better prior to getting her mind reading powers but once she got them she just became a gag character (and the gag wasn't even remotely funny or entertaining). The red death arc started off decently but the villain ended up being so meh by the end. Also, what is with Eric Wallace cramming arcs into 4 episodes? The cobalt blue/Eddie arc would've been stronger if it was given a few more episodes to breath and they cut the filler stuff. Honestly, they should've had Cecile move away with Joe reduced Alegera's role to a supporting role where she mostly worked at CCC media but very occasionally helped out Barry and the team and maybe just have Caitlin combine with frost again instead of introducing another character. I will say I liked the episodes where Nia & Oliver showed up, I just wish the quality from those episodes went into the rest of the season. What I hated is when Chester became the guy who told you how cool things were, and when Cecile became the person who told you how people felt because the actors weren’t good enough to convey it themselves. They also just went over the same lessons again and again.

I find odd that they keep switching from the “FASTEST MAN ALIVE” to the “dumbest man alive” in different situations

Season 1 & 2 are some of the best superhero live action adaptations in TV history

I actually disagree with a few of your points. First and foremost, Andrew Kreisberg left in season 2 because of how he treated their female cast. Todd Helbing (now show running Superman and Lois) show ran from S2 through 5). He still had some of the same writers. Eric Wallace was brought on in Season 4 as a writer and then intermittently was showrunner in late S5 and started by himself in S6. The CW Arrowverse was still going strong with about 6 shows up until Season 6 (Crisis). That was Eric Wallace’s first real season and it wasn’t awful. It still seemed as though the writers cared. But once most of the original writers left, and Eric Wallace got free reign to do what he wanted, the Flash became a show more geared towards children and young teenagers instead of being an adult superhero drama. The problem wasn’t that the Flash can only ever fix things by going faster and faster. The real issue came from the horrible writing and a switch to a graphic novel format. Everything became corny and campy. Sure the CW is known for its sometimes campy aura but it was very rare in these shows and always coupled with good writing. With graphic novels having 4-5 episode arcs, there was never any build up or suspense, the stakes were completely gone. Any guest characters or villains introduced had no build up or mystery behind them. They would be introduced, team flash would fight them, and they’d be defeated all in 4 episodes. The show also became more about these new (and not well liked) side characters. In the final episode, Barry appeared for 11 minutes and Iris was in 8-9 minutes. That’s inexcusable. Having 3 speedsters who almost ruined Barry’s life over multiple seasons be defeated by a b team of unliked characters was a joke. Cecile could suddenly fly. They turned zoom into a shell of himself. And if you watch any episode in any of the earlier seasons, and then watch an episode from 7 8 or 9 (besides Armageddon or 9x9 and 9x10) the dialogue now is so much more over the top and does not fit with who these characters are. Not to mention the writing decision making. In the future of 2049 Cecile was close to 80 years old, didn’t look like she aged a single day, and was still some how fighting crime as the most powerful meta in the universe. The show became different after season 3. Then it became almost unwatchable after season 6. I stayed till the end solely because I love Grant as Barry so much.

7:26 That is totally untrue Nobody forgot about Eddie and iris spent months grieving his death; he was mourned in the 2nd season and was mentioned in different seasons, he was always remembered for his selfless sacrifice in trying to defeat his own descendent eobard thawne so there was no valid points he was making, Just the sad ramblings of a man who was losing his sanity and being manipulated through his grief and anger into the darkness, Love you Benny but you gotta pay closer attention to the details! Lol🔥💯😁😉👍
