    Sold one, that’s why I searched for it on UA-cam. Thanks

    Thanks for your review! I’d already purchased (with my Saw Stop), but hadn’t used - or ever used any dado stack - so your short (and quick) review has been both helpful and educational. Happy woodworking my friend!

    I know this is an old video. But I found a deal on a NOS SD308. This was a great video to understand the difference between the two models. I really appreciate you putting so much detail in it.

    I bought SD 508 several years ago and the bottom is not flat. I am trying to make your bread board with the multiple joinery and the finger joints don’t look good. Any thoughts? I am a novice. Jim Perry

    I bought one recently. Haven't even used it yet. Thank you for your review. Very helpful. Can't wait to use it. I also have been using an old, worn out dado

      That's great that you bought one. Treat it with care and it should last a long time.

    Answered all my question, straight to the point and like that you said your not sponsored, ordered one, paying more then you but will last longer hopefully as not doing as much work. Thanks

    Thanks Mike! This video is very help full. I own the older dado set and it is time to upgrade to a new one.

      Thanks +woodrat1952. I'm glad you found it helpful! I think you'll be happy after you upgrade. Like most things, I usually wish I had upgraded earlier!

    now that you have had the set for 4 years, how has it lasted and held up to your use??

    • @Woodumakeit
      @Woodumakeit  4 роки тому

      I continue to use the dado set regularly and it has held up well. My only regret is that I dropped one of the cutters on my concrete floor and that snapped of one of the teeth. It hasn't been a big deal because it still works and I use that cutter only when needed.

    Great Review Mike very Interesting in how you set the Dados up and the cutting etc. Over here we don't seem to be able to buy them, don't know why but cant in this country. If i wanted one then i would have to buy from abroad, which would cost me for shipping. Keep up the great videos. Take Care, Barry (from England)

      Yeah, I've read on other UA-cam video comments that dado blades are not legal in most European countries. I'm not sure why because they seem pretty safe to me. I'm glad we're able to use them here! -- Mike

    I have never used a dado blade before.Is there a difference in quality of cut between the cheap ones and the more expensive ones?

    • @Woodumakeit
      @Woodumakeit  6 років тому

      Based on my experience, having started out 30 years ago with a very inexpensive dado set, it does make a difference, both in the quality of the cut, and also the precision of the cutting width. As with most tools, you can probably get away with a less expensive/lower quality one, but you won't regret investing a little more to get a higher quality blade.

    I found this video searching for a solution to mark the damn things. I think I’m just going to write A B C C C C with some colored Sharpie marker or something simple. Could maybe scratch very lightly. If I had one of those super cheap laser engravers it’d be the best possible solution. Anything that won’t effect balance. If anyone had ideas for simple solutions, I’m all ears.
    It’s likely I just continue to hold the teeth up to compare and find the two small ones.

    Question about saw blade run-down time. Does your saw typically take that long to run down, or does the added mass from the dado extend that time?

    • @Woodumakeit
      @Woodumakeit  6 років тому +1

      That's an interesting question. I don't have that saw anymore, so I can't provide a complete answer, but I did a test with my new saw. I used a thin kerf blade that weighs 630g and it took 11 seconds to stop. The dado set that I used for the test weighed 3160g and, as you suspected, it took 21 seconds to stop, so the added weight definitely extends the time to stop.

    Are you sure the defects in the bottom of the plywood dado are "tear out"? It looked to me like it might be low-quality plywood with voids and the dado just exposed the voids.

    • @Woodumakeit
      @Woodumakeit  7 років тому

      It's definitely just voids that are exposed at the bottom of the cut. The tear out that I was concerned about was along the edge of the cut. It's really noticeable with the old blade and there's almost no tear out along the edge of the dado with the new blade.

    Good review, but you need a better dust extraction

    • @Woodumakeit
      @Woodumakeit  6 років тому

      Thanks, yep. I improved the dust collection in a subsequent video. And then a year later I bought cabinet saw so it's a lot better now. Still room for improvement though.
