Ya damn right! Dude knows his shit. If I lived in the UK he would be the only one that upgrades and repairs my gun. But since I'm in the States, I watch these videos heavily to gain his knowledge as to fix my own gun.
Great topic, would be interesting to hear your thoughts on other parts of a gun in this sort of format. You mentioned the gate titan for example. A "what's a good mosfet" and stuff like that seems very appealing to newer players like myself. Cheers!
Yes i can agree with your description as so often. My brother has a G&G G2H with the new Hop unit, and we did not change it, well, because, as you just said, those units are sweet. I have a Maxx ME in my G&G F2000 and it works, but i installed that years ago, before all the newer types weren't on the market yet. Nowadays i prefer Cyma for budget builds (an because those are easy to get here). And the Begadi Neptun for the builds with more budget, which also has a very nice hop arm system, even better than the Maxx in my opinion. And the Neptun is made to work perfectly with the awesome Begadi pro hop rubbers and tensioners, which are my absolue favorite atm. But in case of that one Maxx left, why change it out when it works. Just because there are new options out, it still makes no sense to change it, as long as everything runs just fine. But i would not buy a Maxx noadays anymore, there are just better alternatives out there and even for less money. And the new Maxx seems like shit to me. Many adds just don't make any sense for adjustment, sorry but i don't see the benefit there, just more issues.
Didnt understand half of what she said XD. Luke, have you tested the begadi neptune hop units? They look like improved and cheaper Max units, the feeding tube is adjustable in height, it helped me a lot with feeding issues with several magazines, also the nozzle entrance can be shimed for a more accurate nozzle length and aligment with the magazine for optimal feeding , this unit comes with the same type of arm as the max ones and screwed in place not pinned, several nubs with different hardness. Would be great to watch you review this unit, so i can use your knowledge to improve its performance ^^. Begadi buckings are worth a try also.
I wish there was a way to fit the stock units with metal feed tubes so the bb retaining fingers wouldn't wear them off as much. Or plastic tubes you could easily replace instead of replacing the entire unit
I could actually ask for advice. How to set a proper lenght of nozzle to a hop unit? I'm building very weird combo in a npo vss, which contains p* engine, ultimate gearbox shell, and combat union hop up. I have feeding issues, where only one or two bb's can be shot, but then it won't feed anymore. Then reload and same story. I played a bit with engine setup and option of how far nozzle is reaching, with no effects. Maybe changing nozzle would be good idea?
I’ve got the MAXX ME Sport in my KWA Mod.1 as from all the research I’ve done, it’s the only that fits. I’ve just installed yesterday and it appears to have resolved my misfeeding issue and if I use it in the field and confirm this then I’m happy. Sometimes it’s the only option we have.
The new g&g units with the new blue hop rubbers are fantastic if you ask me. The new pcc45 and the new mxc9 have great range

I've got two 12 years old ProWins from when they made their fame. I tried another one maybe 3 years ago with the same rubber, inner barrel, everything that was mounted on the old one. It wouldn't feed and when it did it would be all over the place. Something changed, tolerances, the machines they used, whatever. I managed to salvage it in a build that magically matched its flaws to make everything work, but they are impossible to trust. Never tried Maxx, never will. Too expensive. I'm curious about RetroArms units. For AK, the best I have is a Combat Union MkI. The MkII is also interesting, so are the super cheap Arcturus rotaries.
The issue you described with the Maxx unit and the nozzle scraping the top is 100% related to nozzle alignment and nozzle wobbling on the cylinder head. Maxx nozzles are garbage and a lot of times have terrible cylinder head fitment. This won't happen with a dead center nozzle alignment and proper fitting nozzle/cylinder head combo. However I do agree, Maxx units are nothing special. I almost never change hop units as it doesn't do anything special nor does it improve anything.
Damn, I got lucky with my MAXX unit, it fits nicely in my M4, even with the gun's mish-mash of aftermarket parts with different tolerances. Perfect air seal; increases in FPS over the stock unit/prommy unit with no visible wear. Feeds well and is very consistent with an R hop and PDI barrel. Such a shame it often has issues in most people's builds. I've seen countless people have issues with the MAXX unit (in-person and online) and I feel bad because its amazing if it works, and I didn't do anything particularly special to get it working in my gun, other than get lucky with my choice of parts.
Great video Luke, I'm in the market for a hop unit for a build I'm putting together, I'll try and find an ICS or G&G hop unit. Are ZCI hops any good? I feel like you said in a video a while ago that the CNC M4 ones were decent, is that still the case? Also is there any aftermarket metal arms worth getting?
afaik he loves black plastic ZCI units. Metal arm, pastic arm, pasta arm whatever. As long as it pushes the nub and holds what you set it to it's good.
Managed to order a G&G hop unit, pairing it with a Maple Leaf Super Macaron 60 and an Omega Nub, hopefully that works well, I do have an MR Hop as well but I might save that for a MK12 Mod 1 upper I'm gonna put together in the future.
Hi mate, i have a problem. following your advice I bought the hop up g&g camera but it doesn't fit in my asg. does not draw the bbs especially when the magazine is full (I use pts epm magazines). the asg is a mk18 vfc mod1 with prometheus bc bright inner barrel. I tried with different rubbers and nub (maple leaf omega nub + super macaron 70…. classic rubber + classic nub). The nozzle is polymer. my doubt is that the g&g hop up chamber comes without an external spring. can this be it? A thousand thanks.
I've personaly moved away from maxx units. The price is just too high for what your getting. I've recently started using retro arms units since I still want that good tdc design and they seem to perform well so far. I unfortunately have to trim bucking lips on maple leaf rubbers for them to feed properly though, but I save a bit of money. I have a few g&g hops lying around and use them for on the cheap upgrades or testing and I've seen that they have pretty good performance. I used to use one with an airtech rhop arm in my g&g lmg and it performed great but I wasn't able to get a fine enough hop adjustment. I also use a krytac unit with an airtech rhop arm and it gives me good performance. I think the annoying thing between hop units and even different generations of hop units is the change in nozzle length. I find myself installing adjustable nozzles more often than fixed because I never know exactly what size it wants.
If you're from Europe, you can try out Begadi Short buckings. They perform similar to ML Macaron - it's a shame they don't have full patch ones in the short version.
@@Koscum Yes I've heard about them but I'm in the US so kinda of a pain to get my hands on. I would like to try their buckings out at some point though.
I've got Aimtop, Specna and Cyma in my guns and tried all the hop units available just to see if there's a real difference between them (even the Begadi ones and those are decent but meh). I have to agree that the Specna ones are okish and Cyma are ok if you don't need extra fine tuning. Tbh, those Aimtop or Castellan, maybe Element and some Point will do the job, taking into account that those are really cheap. Still, I've had lots of issues where I had to change the nozzle just because some of them didn't like this or that. As always, great video.
$80 is insane to spend on a hop unit, especially when all you're really paying for is the arm and an adjustment dial that won't slowly decrease hop as you're firing the gun. I only have one gun that uses an M4 hop unit and I just got the typical rotary Retro Arms hop unit and threw it in there to replace the oem hop unit and it works like a hop unit should. I think the main reason people are constantly saying that maxx hop units are so good is only because of how expensive they are; after all, more money spent = higher quality and cheap = bad.
What do you think of the maxx pro hop up I mean interms of the window cut on top of it . Wanted to run a Reto arms hop up on my Cyma Platinum SR25 since the dog chewed the stock one . Had a reto arms hop up but the locking nut made it impossible to close the rife up so ended up with maxx "pro M4A version " and ya it's good the window helps with the Maple leaf Mr hop bucking lay more material to the barrel and help hop 38s with some use of the dail
I just want a manufacturer to make plastic hop-up's that are made just like the originals they are replacing, but allow the addition of that LED board that lights up glowing BB's. I need one for the KWA rotory hop-up, the CYMA MP5 & MP5K hop-up, and all the others.
Sooo... Whats the G&G equivalent for AK? Personally im trying to get my hands on rotary Hop Up chamber from Arcturus. Begadi make CNC rotary hop up for AK, but expensive of course.
The hop unit of my G&G ARP (yes I'm one of those c***y speed softers) is interesting, fps actually increases by ~20 at max hop despite the bb going skywards. I swapped the blue rubber it came with a g&g green and it's now a thing of beauty.
I'm working on a little project of mine, and I would like to ask, if you are having tappet plate timing problems, would you rather reduce the teeth of the sector gear or cut the tappet plate? I was curious which option you would go for first
Similar to the G&G hop unit you recommend here, what would be an AK equivalent as a go-to hop unit? I'm getting fed up with these expensive cnc units, that causes nothing but issues...
To think I nearly bought a Maxx and was pressured to buy one in Airsoft Scymru but I told them that the hop unit in my gun worked fine and didn't need replacing
i saw a while ago that you made a vid of a krytac loaC my question is. can I upgrade it to get somewhat 3-500fps out of it with stock gearbox or do I need to spend a shitload of cash to it for a custom hpa unit and throw in it. I'm now using it as a dmr with 210fps
Thanks Luke I was thinking of changing to one of those in my M4 so you just gave me a really good heads up..My issue is AK Hop units..I'm sick of the cyma slider just not giving me the sweet spot on 3 of my 4..I saw you fitted a Combat Union Metal rotary hop to one that seemed to perform awesome recently though didnt see its range etc obviously..Does anyone do a decent AK plastic rotary hop unit or is the CU one any good/do same issues apply to metal AK ones and their tolerances? at £67 quid its a big expense if not that good in your opinion, especially if theres a viable cheaper plastic option or if slider AK hops are better than rotary aftermarkets what brand do you install that gives that adjustability to set for .28 and leave? If you do take time to answer brilliant as it is I'm quids saved from fucking up with a metal M4 Hop unit so cheers 👏
I have the 3 combat union chambers, 1 old and 2 new, my opinion is that the old is better, in one of my ak's I could not get the nozzle to work on the chamber, I am looking with interest at the new begady ak rotary hop up chamber.
Stuck a Maxx CNC into my ARP, and after a while It got dinged as the gun slams into the thing. Overall found the regular GnG Rotary Hop was just as good for a 3d the price nor did it take damage. So yes, as you say.
Hey Luke! I'm wondering what you think of lonex rotary hop up and slong? G&G hop up unit is kinda hard to come by in our country so i'm looking for alternatives Thanks and cheers to you and your quality content!
Serious one here... Do you have any experience/opinions on the Retro Arms hopup units?? I have had one in my CYMA RPK for almost 4 years now, and the damned thing has not moved from where l set it since l installed it.
It's the centering of the nub that's a bitch to get right as well, I've had hell with ML Omega nubs being just a tiny bit off in ZCI and other hop units. Yes it costs but I'm very happy with my Maxx Model M4A-Pro due to the metal arm but also the solid metal nub as it sits perfectly center on my ML MR bucking, hops 0.32g BB's so well in my 1.14 J rifle, plus with the Maxx nozzle I gained around 10 FPS and was able to step down from an M110 spring to an M105 👍
Biggest issue I have with the Maxx hops is that the wheel nubs catch on the "bolt" release mechanism in most guns. Had to grind down the nubs to be able to set my hop.... the MR Hop + the metal nub is pretty damn sex though...
@@NegativeAirsoftTech are scratches from wobbly nozzles being pushed up by midcaps or do you think it's simply a centering problem of the hop/shell/receiver?
Great Video mr. negative Airsoft! I just recently got myself an Arcturus PP-19 with the rotary plastic Hop-Unit, would you advise changing it ? If so which Hop_Unit would you recommend ? Also would you leave the Stock Rubber and Tensioner or am i better of taking a Maple Leaf Omega Tensioner with an Maple Leaf Hop Bucking ?
Luke will definitely get his device tomorrow definitely tomorrow he will get his definitely tomorrow device tomorrow definitely device tomorrow The device will be delivered definitely tomorrow at the prison of mentally insane airsoft techs
I had those MAXX and got plenty of issues, now I´m using the latest model the m4a and not a single issue, and the arm got even bigger and with 3 nub options, check them out if you can!
Looks like I'm leaving the stock hop unit in my ssg-1 then. Only reason I looked at the max hop unit was because you can get a built in tracer and everybody was hyping it up
You didn't explain why one hopup is bad or good apart from metal arm and tolerances, which might as well be subjective to separate guns. why is the G&G good except for the rotary adjustment when the prowin isn't?
Id love for you to check mine out, things only shooting 250FPS on a 0.28g bb. Just got no clue on what to even look for. It’s a G&G GC16 Wildhog 9”. Would happily pay for you to look at it and fix it as well as supplying the parts
Lol loved this...ffs the prison bit just cracked me up.....🤣🤣🤣 liked the hop unit piece 🖕was wondering what to use when my lct g3 one gives up the ghost as most m4 ones don't fit correctly? Keep up the good work
whats your opinion on the begadi hop units? the neptune for v2 boxes and the two nebo units for different AK variants. so far i'm quite satisfied with the nebos.
Neptune user here. It works really well in my Arcturus and Specna with RA gearbox. Some tweaking with the provided shims was needed to get it to feed right, but that's what makes it fairly compatible with different nozzle setups. It is (quite) a bit overpriced, but unlike Maxx which realistically provides only the integrated tracer as a feature, this one provides compatibility, which can make it worth it in some cases.
hey. I have g&g sr15. original hopup unit hops rly rly nice but you cant rly fine fine tune it. On one setting it can be too low of a hop but on next one its too much. instaled begadi neptun one now. with thair bucking and its great. every bb hops the same.
Agree to disagree. I have 3 different guns, all Maxx Hop units, one custom machined for my G&P m249. All work incredibly well. 🤷♂️. Still good vid, good info.
I feel like the odd man out having put 8 of these in my own guns and the first time I have a problem with them is when I put one in for a friend. Agreed that the G&G is the best hop, but I can never find them aftermarket. Worst hop ever was the stock VFC. I think it really just depends on the body of the gun you put it in meshing with the gearbox
TBH, I think the krytac hop units are pretty damn solid aswell. Pair it with that flat hop arm from Airtech and it works just as good if not better than the Maxx units.
I think i'm gonna stick to my original hop unit, is fine if he shoot ;) What do you think about evolution airsoft, are the part good enough ? Love you video, best tech out there !
Heh , I only worked once with M4 hop up and it was a ProWin unit into a WE Katana , that was not fun to install but it works pretty good. Katana body does not technically support any M4 hop units , they are too long.
Specna plastic unit I find okay no issues with it. I like the VFC plastic rotary unit, but not the fking wheel clip on them. Replace it with a O ring and it's easier to take apart.
I've seen a few that may or not be new, the most recent was about a month ago & couldn't fault ity as it works but it was preinstalled & worked so I didn't look further than that
...if that's the selling point that attracted you, saving the cost of 5 bb's by spending £70 on a hop unit, I'd suggest getting a decent financial advisor.
No truer words were ever spoken, the G&G is probably one of the best hop units you can get. The airsoft zombies always try and push the MAXX. Its buyers remorse and they're trying to justify their poor over priced purchase.
My all time best time waster with these scammers is almost 40 minutes. Interrupting them all the time so they start their spiel over and over again. Asking them to repeat themself or start again because I don’t understand. Letting them talk on speaker phone until they ask a question, ignore and let them repeat it a few times then replying with “what was that?” Lol
The only thing the hop needs to do is be able to feed BBs. Literally the only things that touch the BB during firing are the bucking and the inner barrel. *That* is what affects accuracy. There is no magic hop up unit that makes your gun shoot laser beams.
installing a hop up chamber shouldn't be rocket science. that's what happened with max if you're telling me it's bad installation. I only change hopup chambers if they break and there's something I don't like. otherwise i leave it alone and just change the nub to an omega nub so i can use a maple leaf. i just use a zci cnc in my m4 since i coulsnt find a plastic chamber. hopup arm should be the same though. also i heard with maxx parts you need max everything. let me give you an anechdote. i was working on my cyma plat mp5 and was struggling with tgetting the sticker right. i deciced since its still open and i have a caliper my not upgrade the nozzle . i measured to see what length it was and atchthe number as close as i can to a maxx nozzle and i get it in the mai and test copression and i dont get an airseal and now its sitting in my bits box. i also tried a mp5 nozle which i realised was far too short and i how have a red shs m4 nozzle in it and that gives me a perect airseal. the length according to the caliper was a 99% match.
I mean, she was commited to it...

@@WMPT82 it look nice too
acturus made one plastic version too, but I still managed to work on other ak system beside accuturus.
G&G hop up unit is kinda hard to come by in our country so i'm looking for alternatives
Thanks and cheers to you and your quality content!
Yes it costs but I'm very happy with my Maxx Model M4A-Pro due to the metal arm but also the solid metal nub as it sits perfectly center on my ML MR bucking, hops 0.32g BB's so well in my 1.14 J rifle, plus with the Maxx nozzle I gained around 10 FPS and was able to step down from an M110 spring to an M105 👍
look for scratches...
@@NegativeAirsoftTech Yeah, I've got eczema, what about it? 😛
@@error262 both
Great Video mr. negative Airsoft!
Will a G&G hop up fit inside an A&K M4..?
Does anyone know if zci units work in krytac m4's while keeping the functionality of the bold hold open/hop unit cover?
This is like the 10th time iv listen to this it's funny as f&$k!... side note love the info about the hop up unit
“Stop wasting my time” she says 😂😂😂 brilliant
is the Krytac hop up unit any good if not what will fit it well?
Luke will definitely get his device tomorrow definitely tomorrow he will get his definitely tomorrow device tomorrow definitely device tomorrow
The device will be delivered definitely tomorrow at the prison of mentally insane airsoft techs
Is there an alternative with the BB retention that is better than Maxx hop ups?
I had those MAXX and got plenty of issues, now I´m using the latest model the m4a and not a single issue, and the arm got even bigger and with 3 nub options, check them out if you can!
I fitted one, it was fine but I won't aim to seek them out.
Hi, can someone tell me what nozzle size work best with zci plastic rotary unit?
What's your view on lonex helical gears?
Love the mushroomhead hoodie!!!!
Looks like I'm leaving the stock hop unit in my ssg-1 then.
Only reason I looked at the max hop unit was because you can get a built in tracer and everybody was hyping it up
Might have missed it in the past but any chance of a workshop tour? Looks like a mess but I know there’s usually some method lol.
That's all of it
You didn't explain why one hopup is bad or good apart from metal arm and tolerances, which might as well be subjective to separate guns. why is the G&G good except for the rotary adjustment when the prowin isn't?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Excellent informative quality content as usual Luke
Any experience with the bullgear hop ups? Their new AK hop up looks really nice.
Only in support guns
@@NegativeAirsoftTech copy, will be patient for reviews to come out.
Id love for you to check mine out, things only shooting 250FPS on a 0.28g bb. Just got no clue on what to even look for. It’s a G&G GC16 Wildhog 9”. Would happily pay for you to look at it and fix it as well as supplying the parts
Email me
Lol loved this...ffs the prison bit just cracked me up.....🤣🤣🤣 liked the hop unit piece 🖕was wondering what to use when my lct g3 one gives up the ghost as most m4 ones don't fit correctly?
I'm sorry , my brain went into self preservation mode and I ended up soaking a new pair of jeans....why have I clicked into this?
Wild to hear that the MAXX hops are so picky. I've never had any issues with them in my VFCs. Which could be called an issue all on its own.
Agree to disagree. I have 3 different guns, all Maxx Hop units, one custom machined for my G&P m249. All work incredibly well. 🤷♂️. Still good vid, good info.
how much patience listening to that scammer holy hell
Lovely video, thoughts on the phoenix units?
I feel like the odd man out having put 8 of these in my own guns and the first time I have a problem with them is when I put one in for a friend. Agreed that the G&G is the best hop, but I can never find them aftermarket. Worst hop ever was the stock VFC. I think it really just depends on the body of the gun you put it in meshing with the gearbox
What do you think of the stock JG AUG hopups?
how are the retro arms hops
TBH, I think the krytac hop units are pretty damn solid aswell. Pair it with that flat hop arm from Airtech and it works just as good if not better than the Maxx units.
What's your opinion about retro arms hop up units? Are they any good, would the same issues ocur just like the maxx unit?
It was good, but the arm snapped when the hop got too high.
@@NegativeAirsoftTech Thanks for the reply. I think I can give the retro arms a shot because its much cheaper than maxx.
Bad ass Mushroomhead hoodie !
What v3 hop units can you recommend? Same as v2?
Yes
look up begadi nebo units
I personally really like Retro Arms v3 hopup units. I have had rock solid performance from mine, but as always... YMMV.
Love the MRH hoodie
I think i'm gonna stick to my original hop unit, is fine if he shoot ;)
What do you think about evolution airsoft, are the part good enough ?
Love you video, best tech out there !
Heh , I only worked once with M4 hop up and it was a ProWin unit into a WE Katana , that was not fun to install but it works pretty good. Katana body does not technically support any M4 hop units , they are too long.
What’s a good hop unit for ak’s?
Bit of Sullivan king and the snails erry noice
I wouldve been like “so imma get the device like tomorrow right? 🤨”
Specna plastic unit I find okay no issues with it.
I like the VFC plastic rotary unit, but not the fking wheel clip on them.
Replace it with a O ring and it's easier to take apart.
Rip..just purchased a maxx hop unit for my G&G ssg1 :D
What do you think of the new Laylax hopup unit ?
I've seen a few that may or not be new, the most recent was about a month ago & couldn't fault ity as it works but it was preinstalled & worked so I didn't look further than that
Please do one for aks
Do you think a max hop up could fit inside a moderately sized human? It’s the only way I can securely store money in prison
brilliant !
New G&Gs got this got this hopup?
So….ZCI then?
Good info
ill stick with my ZCI plastic hops thanks they are like £10 and work a treat in almost every build i do
Shame they're always bought out
Good thing about the maxx hopups are the ability to not drop 5-8 bbs when you change the mag boom right there
...if that's the selling point that attracted you, saving the cost of 5 bb's by spending £70 on a hop unit, I'd suggest getting a decent financial advisor.
THATS A GRAPE GRAPEEEEE
No truer words were ever spoken, the G&G is probably one of the best hop units you can get. The airsoft zombies always try and push the MAXX. Its buyers remorse and they're trying to justify their poor over priced purchase.
Bollywood 8 mile slim shady hits differently.
Luke the felon!!!
Still listen to mushroomhead like everyday
