Mr Sauce! I wanted you to try my idea that I came up with after your last tofu video. Basically I sliced up extra firm tofu unpressed and air fried at 400F for 15 minutes. Then I cut them into bites and submerged them into vegan chicken broth and freezed them while they were submerged. The next day I thawed them and put them in the air fryer again for 3 minutes. Believe me when I say this tasted almost exactly like baked chicken with the skin on, crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. Please try this because it's permenantly changed the way I eat tofu!
@@lao6823 be sure to double the concentration of broth. Don't worry about the sodium since only a bit makes it into the tofu. You can drain the excess broth and dilute it so you can use it again. Hope you like it!
It’s cool to see this being common in the US now. In Ecuador we eat palmito (hearts of palm) ceviche, naturally vegan. So good!! Also have to say kite hills sour cream is top tier. May have to try this out!
Oh, palmetto is goooood!!! I would eat it all the time, except that here it's ridiculously expensive. I guess we don't have many farmers who will grow it though we have lots of places where it would thrive. It's true that palmetto can be a really great ingredient in ceviche. Now I'm craving palmetto, which means I'll have to go searching all over town to see if I can find some!

I made my hearts of palm "chicken" sandwiches the other day and WOW! It was the best chicken sandwich I ever had. I had it on a whole wheat roll with baby spinach, tomato, pickles, red onion and a remoulade dressing. Thanks so much for turning me on to this!
I have to tell you, my daughter had a Vegan friend over Memorial day and I spoke to her all about your videos. She had reservations about using Jackfruit and having watched your video on Hearts of Palm, I was able to give her an alternative that appeared even easier to work into chickn patties.
The reality is the both jackfruit and hearts of palm have very little nutritional value, especially the latter. Their only value is in the texture, mixing them with protein is essential if you want some nutritional value.

Wow! I just made this and it's incredible. This is the best tasting meat alternative I've made yet. That sauce is THE BOMB. The patty is really good even by itself. 10/10 Mark! Tip: 2 cans of Walmart brand palm hearts only made 3 reasonably sized patties after I unsheathed them. So maybe get an extra can just in case the sheaths end up taking up more space than anticipated.
Ok...I was about to try this with the Walmart brand. What do you mean by "unsheath". It appears the inside is more tender (you are able to pull it like string cheese". Are we not supposed to use the outside cylinder as well? This is my first encounter with hearts of palm.
I used the link for those bouillon packets on the last video where he mentioned it, and that is some LEGIT broth mix. The "pork" flavor one is amazing for ramen or pho. I got the three-flavor pack and used his code. Just wanted to give a thumbs up on this product, it's really good!

Hey! Thank you for this recipe, and I love all of your videos! Have recommended them to a lot of friends too. In this case, I have to make a comment though: Palmito trees are close to extinction here in Argentina and in Brazil because extracting the hearts of palm kills the tree and it takes decades to grow. That also obviously affects the entire ecosystem and in particular the animals that rely on the tree (local birds an other animals). I myself try to not consume hearts of palm because I don't consider them, even though it is a plant, to be "vegan" (something similar to what happens with palm oil). Just wanted to spread this info :)
Vegan means you don't consume animal products. So it's still vegan. However you can consider it ethically wrong. I remember watching a video on hearts of palm years ago, it seemed so sad and wasteful 😢 I'm glad I ran into this comment to remind me. I usually don't consume it but I had bought it for this recipe already.

I'm sure this tastes great but, Fake Meats should disclose the ingredients instead of just saying "flavoring" on the nutrition panel/ingredients list. Vegans and vegetarians have different reasons for adhering to their diets. Those of us doing it for health issues are often on restrictive diets and knowing what components make up "flavorings" could be crucial. Also, the salt level is really high. I guess I'm just frustrated by the lack of information and the heavy-handed use of salt. Salt can always be added, but it can't usually be removed. Also, I wish they would have used a better oil than canola. Finally, thanks for this channel, Saucestache! You've enlightened me on so many ingredients and given me such hope after I developed some serious health issues. I enjoy eating again.
Thanks for letting us know this. I definitely steer clear from anything that lists 'flavoring' as an ingredient. That is NOT an ingredient. Flavoring is made up of actual ingredients. They need to tell us what is used to make the flavoring.

Used chicken of the woods mushroom instead of hearts of palm for more a chicken texture, just make sure the mushroom isn't passed ripe otherwise it'll feel like chewing the driest piece of chicken you've ever had.

I ordered some of the Plant Basics seasonings and the bulk bag of the soy chunks a couple weeks ago. I like the seasonings but they're way to expensive for me to order again and the soy chunks are okay but they don't seem to bulk up or have as nice of a texture as the Butler soy curls. They are okay when used for something like "chicken" korma or a curry.

From my very limited search, harvesting from a multi-stemmed variety grown on a farm is fine because some stems are left to grow and the plant doesn't die. They're grown for this purpose like any veg. Illegally harvested from rainforests are bad, of course. Then there's the environmental cost of transportation over long distances, if you want to consider that.
Honestly, big restaurants and fast food chains are missing out big time when they don't invite real vegan cooks to make their plant based recipes. I'm vegan, so I may be biased, but these look perfectly enjoyable to any open-minded meat eater. I'm pretty sure it's much easier to teach people how to eat a bit less meat with this sandwich compared to Gordon Ramsey's cauliflower steak...

Looks great but I will say, I probably wouldn’t make it because there’s so little nutritional value to hearts of palm, kind of the same as jackfruit… they make great substitutes, but there’s not much too them. I’d love to see a recipe like this but with more nutrient dense foods

Looks great! My problem w recipes like this though, is that there’s no overt protein so I’d still be hungry unless I loaded up on beans or such as a side. Perhaps it would work to make it with 1/2 hearts of palm and 1/2 shredded soy curls?
That would be great! One of my old tricks was to use a plain pea protein in these chicken recipes. It really works as a filler and makes the sandwich more protein dense. It does help with the bite and texture as well!

That "Just like chicken/beef" is yeast extract, same as Marmite, and Marmite is less than half the price.

I think can bamboo might be similar to HoP. It's cheap here in USA California. I find it in the Asian section of my local grocery.

does the hearts of palm have much protein? I am always careful to keep maintain my protien content of my vegan meals. I live and die by soy products and beans, lol. Also I love to make seitan, it just takes so much energy, lol.
Looks great but I will say, I probably wouldn’t make it because there’s so little nutritional value to hearts of palm, kind of the same as jackfruit… they make great substitutes, but there’s not much too them. I’d love to see a recipe like this but with more nutrient dense foods

problem with your sponsor is that the same machines that make the Just Like Chicken also work with Shellfish, Fish, and Molluscs so I personally don't find it vegan at that point.
Looks great! My problem w recipes like this though, is that there’s no overt protein so I’d still be hungry unless I loaded up on beans or such as a side. Perhaps it would work to make it with 1/2 hearts of palm and 1/2 shredded soy curls?
That would be great! One of my old tricks was to use a plain pea protein in these chicken recipes. It really works as a filler and makes the sandwich more protein dense. It does help with the bite and texture as well!
