I don't agree with BH on the fact that storing wealth in the US ETF is safer than self custody. What about sanctions? Self-custody is on of the major feature of this beautiful protocol. If it wasn't Bitcoin wouldn't be where it is today. Of course a lot of holders will not opt for self custody for convenience but it's existence the alternative option it offers is crucial.

16:56. I respect most of what British HODL has to say, but this is the pinnacle of ignorance. You're only going to have self-custody taken from you, if you're dumb, and unprepared. Whereas your ETF is only one phone call away from any number of government officials. There is NOTHING you can do to harden your ETF from that fact, and it's not a matter of proper prep and education (like it is with self-custody). So while the ETF is probably, on the whole, safer for the habitually incompetent, it is 'structurally' nowhere close to as safe as self-custody, though competence is *required* for the latter.
17:06. Dude, it's 12 words. I think you can memorize that. No need for bum carry. This isn't gold we're talking about. More over, there are all sorts of sophisticated ways of concealing information. And where there is basically ZERO chance of it being discovered. *Especially* when you're the only party who is aware of the concealment. In fact, you can successfully conceal information, even when it's known you're doing so, and you're sharing the concealment with other parties. But when you're the only party who knows, it's basically 100% unfindable, assuming the concealment is being performed by a sophisticated actor, and it's not that hard to gain that level of sophistication.

Totally disagree with buying etf over self custody.. Absolutely against what Bitcoin stands for. I dont know about this guy anymore. @17:00 what is this guy talking about? I think he has never self custodied bitcoin. You can simply remember your seed or write it on a paper. You dont need to carry a usb device cross border.
Remembering your seed is hard and risky (you might forget). A more reliable way is to encrypt the seed phrase into a file (with uncrackable encryption) with an easier key to remember and put that file in places where you can get to it from anywhere in the world including that USB drive.

If USA gov comes after my money my ETF is forfeit. My 24 word seed phrase is in my head and cannot be detected by Airport security. When arriving in a free country I can restore on a new wallet. No one thinks ETF are safer. No one!

@@JPs-q1o Neither do we have AI, we have marketing that calls language models which try to predict the next word in a text "intelligent", nor do we have mind reading technology...
But jokes aside: over the years there had been many stories about people who lost their crypto wealth on the local trash dump on a hard drive etc and their seed was gone. What you have never heard is that someone lost their crypto because they had memorised their seed as a 2nd layer of safety. If something terrible happens in 5 years, then you will burn your seed and go on a journey... Obviously I have my seeds hidden somewhere - but I also have them memorised. It works both ways - if you suffer a stroke while traveling South America and will not get out of hospital bed for 3 years, you cannot travel to Switzerland, Japan and Dubai to retrieve your multi-custody seedphrase - you need to be able to have a Ledger delivered to hospital by Amazon so you can pay for your rehab, or they dump your ass in the street.
I agree with your point that only the money we control ourselves truly belongs to us, and everything else is nonsense. I also saw comments mentioning AI mind-reading. Do you think we've reached that level of development? If such technology really exists, do you think there would still be criminals and spies?

There is no sense in criticizing self-custody. In the example of leaving the country that airport security can see, I just need to send an email to myself with the 12 words that I can easily open in another country. lol
Please don’t include any of the secret words into an email. You don’t want to do that. Make sure to keep them safe and never, NEVER share them over an email nor via shared drive (Apple, GDrive). The point of the discussion was that not everyone should / is interested in self custody. Stay safe and pls protect those words at any cost.

If you are traveling from a country like Venezuela and you are going to be searched at the airport, what is the problem with sending an email and then deleting it when you arrive at your destination? I know it's not the best way but for the example given it would be a solution to get away with bitcoins.
There are a LOT of problems with your example. A network of computers exists between emails, in other words “NOT safe”. You never share that type of information, unless you want to loose ALL your crypto. It is as bad as taking a photo of the 12 words and post it on any social media.
@@MrMPodcast they can simply send it in multiple emails and not include the name of said email or even just save it in "drafts". Then delete it once they arrive. But also, just keep it in a hot wallet if that's the case. It can't be hacked if its an idle hot wallet.

Im not triggered by the ETF vs Self Custody discussion, but the ETF is 100% dependant on a stable system and economy. If the government decides to seize everyone’s ETF Bitcoins, sfocks or other investments, they’ll do it with ease. This kind of confiscation happened multiple times in history, in many countries. Is this what you’re putting your trust on, especially on today’s climate? For me, that’s a hell no.

Colllectable gold - which is all pre-33 gold could be bought and sold as a collectable, which ALWAYS included the current price of gold when selling/buying. The exchange was just moved from the government to the individual. You think the government can steal money from millions of people that is global in nature and held by the largest financial institutions in the world? Finance capitalism owns the government, not the other way around. Remember that.
Governments can't cease your ETF's, they need everyone to invest in stocks, ETFs etc. Gold being ceased 100 years ago were different times.
We need ETF's to lift the price of BTC, the more money in, the more it will rise.
We are in a good position at the moment and anyone who expects BTC to keep going up in the short term is a mug.

Inflation is always higher and higher, there is no adjustment, thts why the demand for BTC increases.
Inflation has never been this rapid in a 4 year cycle before. during Bitcoins existence.
I understand what you are saying, but like many things in technical analysis, I can see it both ways.
These are just guides, not a map.
Adjusting for inflation is just as valid as not adjusting for inflation. Both are just guides, not rules.
But let me put it this way, so you can see the argument for adjustment.
If the dollar debased to where it cost 100 dollars for a hamburger a year ago during the bear cycle, then by your lack of adjustment, we would have achieved that all time high a year ago, but value wise, we would not have progressed. Not in buying power, not in adoption, Not in hashrate. THere wouldn't REALLY be an uptrend, because your metric of measurement is simply changing.
This is why British Hodl makes a very good point. In this remarkable era of quick debasement it is a valid concept to separate actual buying power value, from fiat dollar price increases. We don't need to do this on day to day charts of course. But for long term trends like ATH it is valid to correct for inflation, especially in these days of rapid inflation/debasement.
As I said it isn't that big of a deal either way, but you certaintly can't make an empirical statement that it doesn't matter, just because it doesn't matter to you.
It's kind of the same deal with using algorythmic price charts vs analog charts. You can't say either is bad or either is good. It is just two different perspectives to examine data with.
And I think when the dollar has debased well into the double digits over the last 4 years, it's absolutely valid to include that metric in your charts.
I mean, you could measure ATH in different currencies and get different entire YEARS of all time highs. It's not useful unless you correct for actual value.
The dollar may be one of the closest currencies to actual value, which is why it is used, but it to is simply a corrupted and manipulated and diluted fiat currency, and we can correct for that, and the smart money does.
You'd be better off showing the value of bitcoin in cheeseburgers than anything else. But it's impractical.
