  • Late start on a sunny Saturday afternoon, bad traffic so I deviated to the Alwinton valley, parked up and just took a track, I ended up with a lovely hill camp with some cracking views with plenty of ideas for camps, and I never saw a soul.

Wonderful views out there. So many choices to camp at. Nice to get the heart pumping while enjoying the walk. Sometimes I just like hearing the rhythm of my steps.

Hi and thanks for watching, it’s a nice location for sure miles and miles to explore, I suppose small in comparison to your national parks,
Can you get away with over night camping anywhere in your parks ?
      Cheers

@@northumberlandmountainhopper Definitely with national forests or Bureau of Land Management (BLM) areas here. There may be permits required depending on the location. It's a pretty far drive for me so I mostly go to a local state park where I can set up almost anywhere.

I've been just bivvying without the tarp but the sun just blasts me awake very early in the morning, I'm just going to have to get to grips with my 3x3m folded in half. You're doing brilliant for 62, I'm a decade younger than you, and I struggle with the weight of the kit, and the water, but I need coffee, but I have to stop frequently gasping for breath! I don't care - getting out in my bivvy is helping me traverse feelings of grief and loss. I'm looking forward to getting fitter and out more with greater technical proficiency. I just love being outside at night! Thanks for another top video - at least I can see how to set out a little camp if I can't actually set up a little camp - I just lie there like a slug in my bivvy bag!

Hi and thanks for watching, I have been like a slug many a time !!!
Pin half the tarp to the floor then you have the other half to bring up to your poles, I will demonstrate with a 3x3 on one of my next camps
Tarp keeps some sun off in the morning
      Cheers

Great new spot. Perfect setup and topped off with sweet and sour egg fried rice... blissful stuff, Adrian. It was freezing up north this weekend, to be fair. I was up the Lake District, near Ullswater camping.
This was a perfect watch after a long drive back 👌

Nice one Adrian. Funny about the cow issue. I would recommend staying calm and waving arms and poles but assertive not aggressive, to look bigger. These incidents are statistically quite rare. More people are killed in the bath tub than by cows. The vast majority of incidents occur in enclosed areas involving farm workers. The next most common is where a Walker has a dog. I’d love to know what the details are in each instance. In all my 60 years on the fells I’ve never had an incident. Mind you I can read cattle well. My mum and dad both grew up in the dales.

Hi and thanks for watching, yes rare I know but it can happen, I find young bulls are over inquisitive and get too close !!! I have been chased when walking in the countryside with my jack russels, yet they are not much of a threat, best to stay clear in my case !!!

@@northumberlandmountainhopper yes don't mind the claustrophobic space... I have normal bivvi bags , and my favourite is the ex-army just a little heavy , bulky but no condensation. I just spent a few days in the peak district and by the second day the thought of wiggling into the bivvybag was not nice.. iam older now and that zip on the hooped bivvy is calling out to me...
