What I can’t get over is JT was born in 1960 this first album came out in 81. If he started playing bass at 16 that means he wrote all these lines with only 5 years experience on bass. Crazy.
@a-ha1118 I didn't say I believed the article, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did get some help, I know when Duran had become successful, he did get bass guitar lessons, he admitted that himself. Blonde used session musicians but you would never know.
@robbelliii There are quite a few people who have that natural musical ability. When I was trying to learn bass guitar , I used to ask my guitar teacher to show me how to play the Duran bass lines, I had the sheet music for the songs, he would listen to the record, say Sound Of Thunder and he would then be able to play the bassline note for note, really amazing
I was in high school when this album debuted. I used to fall asleep with this album playing though my headphones. Planet Earth was my favorite song from this album. Thanks for the memories.
Props! J.T.'s basslines are no joke! I never much cared for Duran Duran until one day I decided I needed to learn Rio simply because that bassline is so killer even if one doesn't particularly care for the band. I have been hooked ever since. Combing through their discography and discovering the many gems found therein has been a joy. I have not seen them live in person. But I am imagining the energy has got to be electrifying especially when they were in their prime.
absolutely exquisite cover. I remember playing this album over and over again nonstop when I first got it and remember every note and bar of each song as though it were yesterday. Love this video. Thank you.
this has been one of the best videos I have watched in forever. watching the heat build up in your forearms and fingers, shaking it off. Dedication to the jump and energy and precision and power that John has consistently delivered for 4 decades. Playing the whole album at the pace you're going. Best concert in a long time. Thank you. I'm an aspiring bassist (at 52). Inspirational. You rock the fuck outta it.
I bought Duran Duran' début on cassette tape (EDR / Expanded Dynamic Range)! Saw them on the Seven and the Ragged Tiger Tour in Chicago . . . This is somehow equally as gratifying, considering that John Taylor is the LORD of ALL pop bassists! I can't stop watching - you are the man!
Andy and Roger had been playing at least 7-8 years by the time they joined so it’s crazy to me that John picked up the bass so quickly. He probably knew the bare minimum in terms of theory if anything at all yet he knew how to hit all the right notes. It was the perfect combination of musicians at the perfect time. Still is but back then it was lightening in a bottle. GOF is a workout but super fun to play.
Absolutely brilliant performance. What a fantastic way to pay tribute to the exquisite bass playing craftsmanship of John Taylor. Awe inspiring! Now for the Rio album.... 👍
Fell on the vid....loved it...from tea drinking to Robot dance..😂...can tell you in touch with bass and feel it pal 🤘...made me recall who good this album was and still is 👍🏻
I’m a drummer and I only got 2 words for that: NICE! John Taylor was almost criminally under appreciated as a bass playing musician until quite recently? Even so, I heard brilliance in the very first Duran Duran song I ever heard “Girls on Film”. Have you considered doing any of the B-Side tunes from that “era”? I’d love to see your rendition of “Faster Than Light”? I don’t think you need any praise from a complete stranger, but I enthusiastically approve of, and have deep respect for your musicianship, skill and perhaps most importantly, how comfortable you are playing these songs! It’s not work when you wear those expressions! Smooth grooves, Kristian! 🤌

Even the Aria Pro man!!! Inspiration is the word for me! Congrats Kristian! Tks for the show! As a 53 years old I start tô play bass listening John…return tô play 2 years ago. As I said you are an Inspiration! Tks man
Incredible. Good work, sir. I'm not even a bassist but this was captivating. All from memory too! 🙌🏻 As someone else noted, thanks for the free concert.
Fantastic! I didn't appreciate John Taylor at the time, but man, the dude can play! And such a distinctive sound and tone. You nailed it with the Aria Pro II SB 1000! What a beautiful bass. And you clearly had fun doing this. Bravo.
Bravo ... well nailed! Back in the 80's in Highschool I taught myself all the drum parts to a variety of Banshees albums ... I would come home from school and sit down at the kit and usually play through the entire Nocturne Live Concert album - note for note ... did same with Tinderbox, JuJu and many others. A little later I taught myself all the Guitar parts by John MvGeoch and play through the entire albums ... it's a discipline and something all musicians should do. Glad to see I'm not the only one.
What can i say but fcuk, i am 52 years old and the unique sound of Duranx2 lives on. The drums, absurd lyrics, keyboards, basslines, guitar notes, the bridge...nithing like it today.
The mix I've always heard in my head on these songs, since I was 11 (40 years ago!): the bass a couple of thousand miles above the rest. Kudos, you really feel John, and *that* Aria!
You did a fantastic job, mate. This was the first album of theirs I listened to back when it came out, and I fell in love with the band ever since. You have done justice to this solid pioneering album. Cheers from a die hard Durannie from Malaysia

This is absolutely brilliant! Terrific performance and stamina! :-) The only thing I miss is To The Shore, which was part of the debut album. You played Is There Something I Should Know (a joy to my ears, anyway), which was not on the first album, but a single released in 1983, two years later. The first CD issues, dating back to the end of the 80s, had To The Shore replaced with ITSISK.
I chose to do the US Capitol Records version of the record (the one I had when I was a kid) which included Is There Something I Should Know but not To the Shore.
Herculean effort. Few people realise that solid bass playing is all about stamina.
What I can’t get over is JT was born in 1960 this first album came out in 81. If he started playing bass at 16 that means he wrote all these lines with only 5 years experience on bass. Crazy.
There was an article in a music paper that is nolonger around that stated they used session muscians
Don’t believe everything you read. He’s an amazing bass player. People will criticize him, but that’s just because they’re jealous! Go JT!
@a-ha1118 I didn't say I believed the article, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did get some help, I know when Duran had become successful, he did get bass guitar lessons, he admitted that himself.

If John Taylor ever quits Duran Duran you could easily slide, fingerpick and slap your way into the gig!!!! Outstanding!!!!
He’s better looking too
he grows his hair a little longer gets some hairspray itll be like nothing happens
DANG Dude!!! You CRUSHED it!! Didn't miss a single note!! GREAT JOB!!! 🤜🤛
I was in high school when this album debuted. I used to fall asleep with this album playing though my headphones. Planet Earth was my favorite song from this album. Thanks for the memories.

@@richardrichard5409 he went to art colleage. Not music college. He is a natural.
Got the right bass. Got the skills. Got the time. Got the rhythm
Just reeks of the very best the 80’s had to offer.

Duran Duran, I wish you would tour playing 2 different full albums per tour, that would be heaven for true Duranies, and there are plenty of us!
Superb work :) Came here after seeing your Rio play through.
Respect! A great tribute to the bass-artistry of that album, and John Taylor would be well impressed :)
Hi! I came here for a bass cover. Ended up listening to a full concert! Love it.
