The worst thing is that the FBI and media paid no price at all for destroying this man's life. All of those involved in this case and reporting lies about Jewell, still get to go to bed at night with their spouses, and wake up in the morning and play with their kids; they still get to celebrate Christmas, Thanksgiving and birthdays. Richard Jewell? Not so much. He was a a true victim and all of the people who victimized him just went on with their lives. And just because some idiot reporter said "he lives with his mom and that fits the profile of a serial killer." It was the beginning of the end.
From reading about the case, which I didn't know about before. It seems the FBI based their whole case around him on profiling. A practice that has been proven to have inaccurate results at best, and more often than not completely wrong
Yep, Hollywood has spun a fantasy world wherein profiling is a highly accurate tool that can identify a perp with great precision. Entire TV shows and movies have been built around it. So the general public now believes it.
You are correct and it has only been in the past 10 years, that the Behavioral Science Department at Quantico have finally devoted more emphasis to victimology than profiling the predator.
I will say that in my opinion, Criminal Minds had a number of excellent episodes that showed the exact difficulty in profiling criminals, though they did it every episode. Two of the best involved a security guard that fit the profile, but for which there was no solid evidence of guilt, which led one of the leads on that case to retire, and another where the lead detective in Chicago used a profile to arrest one of the team with no actual evidence of guilt, and the actual murderer was an upstanding man in the community who preyed on young boys that came to his rec center. As they said on occasion, the profile is a single tool that could apply to many people simultaneously and should never be used for an arrest on its own weight.

It's not particularly comparable and they didn't resign, they handed in their permits to carry firearms. This doesn't mean they resigned, just that they wouldn't be carrying out duties as armed response. It was in response to an armed officer facing a murder charge after he shot a suspect through the windscreen of his car when he was ramming police cars to try to escape. Turns out the guy who was shot had shot another person in a club a couple of days before. The officer was found not guilty of murder based on his actions being reasonable in the situation.
@robkirkham8873 I didn't say they resigned. I said they handed in there registration for carrying firearms. It is comparable the chain of command is throwing their lads under the bus for doing their jobs and the system punishing them for doing their job. Even when the evidence was clear they did nothing wrong.
This was a great film. A horrifying true story of persecution of a very forthright and honest man. What happened to him is utterly appalling and the people in the government agencies that vilified this man should be ashamed and regret every day of the rest of their lives for what they did. Marvellous acting by the way. What a superb character actor Paul is.
This dude was absolutely amazing. He looked walked talked just like Richard. Man was a fucking hero and because he wasn't the quickest guy they thought they could pin it on him. Quick doesn't mean smart. Look at the way Elon answers a question.
Kind of makes you wonder how many “suspects” are actually NOT the actual person who committed the crime and if LE did any actual investigation at ALL, they’d find the real criminal(s). Sad.
The investigation into Jewell lasted 90 days, and he was cleared. It took another 2 years to identify the correct person, Eric Rudolf. Then another 5 to capture him. It honestly was the media that was the problem. They're the one's that were persecuting him over that 90-day period. The feds were doing their job by investigating every angle.
There are a lot. Too many really. Because the police “need to make the case” so they find someone to just pin it on. All the while the ones with full on video evidence are “alleged” make it make sense.
This movie didn’t do great at the box office but it is a wonderful film . Clint Eastwood directed a very fine group of actors in explaining the tragedy of Richard Jewell . Eric Rudolph killed the folks at Olympic park that night . The media and FBI killed Richard Jewell . It was a slow death but they killed him .😢
No they will pin it on anyone that they 3, even more so if they think they will get the person convicted, innocent or not. There are a lot of people in prison who have done nothing wrong at all, they just made it look a certain way and got the person locked up for God knows how long.
@terrydow3452 literally the headline of that article is "Bring back the death penalty." I just read that article and, while he didn't name them by name, he talks about "these muggers and murderers who graped and laughed at her family's anguish" ( which the victim has since recanted her accusation.) He definitely said to bring back the death penalty and that "these criminals need to be executed." (Quoted straight from the ad)

This was a really good movie and the actor who played Richard did a fantastic job. He's been in a few movies and I like his work. And for the real Richard Jewel, I believe he did what needed to be done and unfortunately became a scapegoat. Hopefully he didn't lose all his faith in humanity and is doing well today
He passed away at like age 44 in 07, but he did serve in several more law enforcement agencies and saved a little girl one time. But after some time, he was acknowledged and honored at various times as a hero.
I'm sorry to have to tell you did Richard Jewell died at age 44, family members blamed what he went through for ruining his health and beginning a cycle of depression that he never really got out of.
"Do you think the next time some security guard is going to call it in" Youve gotta wonder how many security guards have actually had this thought since this
I was there, working with a DSS protection team. About half a block away from the blast when it went off, we also assisted in the post blast investigation. Our contact at the Department of State told us the FBI knew it wasn't Jewell. They had a report from a rural gas station on the way to Atlanta where Eric Rudolph made statements to the owners to pay attention to the Olympics to see something happen over the next few days. Jewell was essentially a decoy while they tried to track down Rudolph.
Are you serious?! Why would this not surprise me. Seems like it would have been just as easy to make up an entirely fictitious person or just not release the name at all and say you are still investigating. That a way you don't destroy somebody's f-ing life.
This sounds like some made-up bull. The State Department wouldn't have been involved in this case. Further evidence you're full of it is the fact that Jewell was cleared within 90 days, and it took another 2 years to identify and 7 years to capture the real bomber.
@lennychorn147 I know. I was just saying something like that would not surprise me, but that there were so many better options for having a decoy that didn't destroy someone's life.
@@curiousangel6321 That's just it. Jewell wasn't being used as a decoy. The information that he was being investigated was leaked to the press. As this was the early days of the multiple 24/7 news channels, they ran with it and vilified Jewell. Anyone would have to be a fool to think that the person who discovered the bomb wouldn't also be thoroughly investigated as a potential sudpect is kidding themselves. Had the media not turned the incident and investigation into a media circus. The investigation against Jewell probably would have rapped up sooner without all the vilification by the media.
@tats7859 You're a fool. All three of those agencies have a long history of abuse of citizens' rights. All three are incredibly corrupt agencies. At the very least, every single entrenched bureaucrat needs to be purged from these agencies. The FBI itself was built by one of the biggest criminals in law enforcement history, J. Edgar Hoover. The ATF is beyond out of control with their illegal actions and harassment of law-abiding citizens. The history of the corrupt actions of the CIA against American citizens is also well documented. No offense, but you must not know the history of both those agencies. The alphabet agencies have been operating as business as usual. It's just that more people are finally paying attention and realizing what's going on. The man that built the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover was the most powerful man in DC. He set the practice of building dossiers on every politician and prominent American. That grew to include any American who has ever attended an event monitored by the FBI or arrested in the U.S.. I requested a copy of my FBI file. I was utterly shocked to see photos of me and my friends at the infamous Skokie Illinois NAZI rally, as high school teens. Though I was proud that they got a shot of me throwing a clump of mud at the stage. 😅 They had a lot of personal information on a nobody like me. Including jobs that require a criminal background check. The CIA has a very checkered history. Operation Mockingbird had CIA operatives employed at newspapers and television news stations. Operation MK Ultra were experiments conducted on mostly collage students, many without their knowledge of what was actually taking place. Between Trump winning in 2016 and the current Biden administration has been a hidden blessing. Over the last 8 years, the level of corruption in government and especially amongst the alphabet agencies has really been exposed to a lot of people.

And yet there are alot of people that just believe what the media tells them.
The media knew it wasn’t home too. And the FBI.
@@Reject-DemonPeople believe the media when the media shares their values. People wanted to hate this man because the average American doesn't respect security officers.
Really everyone?! Stop it. The public was part of the problem.
The different media outlets all paid Jewell off through out of court settlements. He was well compensated.
@@lennychorn147 Oh well that's alright then! Money fixes everything, right? Payoffs and justice are the same thing, right?

@@lennychorn147 criminal charges. Compensation is nothing but an a-hole tax. A fee for being terrible. Not justice, not a punishment. A fee.
@MacerXGP What was the criminal act? Slander and defamation are civil crimes.
Oh my what a great movie. It broke my heart to see what they did to this man. This is our government and media agenda against the regular people in our country guys. He’s representing us every day people. 😢

Similar thing happening in the UK with armed police many handing in their registration because they don't want their lives ruined for doing their job
The primary purpose of law enforcement in the UK is to avoid being called racist.

That should always be ure motto never care about strangers always safe ureself why tf do I need too save strangers
This movie didn’t do great at the box office but it is a wonderful film . Clint Eastwood directed a very fine group of actors in explaining the tragedy of Richard Jewell . Eric Rudolph killed the folks at Olympic park that night . The media and FBI killed Richard Jewell . It was a slow death but they killed him .😢
Only reason gov would come after someone like this is bc they are complicit to the crimes.
No they will pin it on anyone that they 3, even more so if they think they will get the person convicted, innocent or not. There are a lot of people in prison who have done nothing wrong at all, they just made it look a certain way and got the person locked up for God knows how long.
@pointblank1978 no that's not true at all. They didn't do a proper investigation and just tried to pin the blame on Richard.

Trump never called for the death penalty for the Central Park five. You never read the ad he placed in the newspaper
Janet Reno already did. "I'm very sorry it happened. I think we owe him an apology. I regret the leak".

This is a sad true story
It's the norm not the fluke.
@@curiousangel6321This dude is talking out his backside.
@lennychorn147 I know. I was just saying something like that would not surprise me, but that there were so many better options for having a decoy that didn't destroy someone's life.

The information that he was being investigated was leaked to the press. As this was the early days of the multiple 24/7 news channels, they ran with it and vilified Jewell.

They had a lot of personal information on a nobody like me.
