I know right. That pause at 6:34 was really telling! We chose the condo route from the word go. It was expensive, as you rightly mentioned, but we've never regretted it for a minute. So, welcome to condo living buddy and stay safe. Cheers!

I am happy you are doing so well in Canada. I have been in Canada for more than 30 years. I would like to share the following points in order to clarify some of your concerns.
    1) Carbon monoxide and fire alarms are mandatory in Ontario. They should be tested twice a year. Even the smallest amount of Carbon monoxide will cause the alarm to ring very loudly, therefore there is no reason to worry about any ill effects.
    2) most homes have central humidified attached to the heating system to try to keep air moist in the winter months. However additional portable (personal) humidifiers are recommended in your bedrooms.
    3) the low UV content of winter sunlight causes (SAD) Seasonal Affective Disorder in some people which causes depression and mood disorders particularly in winter. This is combated by taking vitamins D, B12 and light therapy.
    4) remember also noise travels from the basement to the upstairs through heat vents. So you have to be equally aware of it.
    5) True, living in the condo is nicer than in a basement, but the rent is cheaper so you can save a lot of money to use as a downpayment to purchase your own property. OWNING your own home is better than living in the nicest RENTED condo.
We wish you all the best for your life in Canada.

1 ) There was an alarm when it started beeping , it kept beeping regularly, our landlord took it off, he thought it's not working anymore.
      2) Humidifiers are ok, but they hv not been scientifically proven to be effective in case of any allergies, I hv sinus allergy.
      3) I am nutritionist for the last 8 yrs. Nobody can get enough vitamin d even if they get sun all year , also apart from early morning sun, rest of the day ,sun rays are not very safe, I hv been taking vitamin A, b, c,d ,e ,k for last 10 years. I hv studied kinesiology and supplements science for 3 yrs. I get blood test done twice a year. I don't hv any vitamins deficiency.
4)My landlord tell me that he is very happy with us as we are very quite and there is no chaos or loud noise ever.
      5) Yes buying a house is surely a good idea.
      Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

@@AjayBalharaLive so you don’t have any carbon and smoke alarm? Nowadays it’s coming one single device. Why not ask the landlord to buy one or you can buy and billed to them. Is your house is centralized heat and air or not? If centralized all people in that house is same level and doesn’t matter who is living which floor!!! How costly is condo for you per month?!

    • @sr4458
      @sr4458 5 років тому

      Well said Mr. Parujan...
However carbon monoxide poisoning is terrible, you must get it tested if you suspect that, you must buy the CO alarm and ptove it for your safety and to make the landlords beware of the situation...Depression is quite common in this country due to low sunlight and poor social life, especially if you are coming from warm countries where you have plenty of people to socialize...living in basement is not ideal but it does save some money and moving to Condo has it's own pros and cons...so happy for your move, hope things turn out better in the condo....good luck

I am sad now I just moved into basement (lol 2 days ago. October 2019.. Actually my landlord is daughter so will have her follow regulations and cautions about carbon monoxide
and I have actual run of whole house during day so not too bad there. However it is cold and am working to improve that situation right now
. I will buy wool rug to go over existing carpet
2 will curtain off LR and other areas if necessary to focus heat
Buying infrared space heater for 2 rooms
Applying bubble wrap to windows to insulate and for privacy. Apparently plants can grow when it's up.
Will monitor any sadness , head aches developing etc and be very aware of carbon monoxide monitors ( there are 2). Actually calling in the gas company to check everything out very soon.
I also have 2 humidifiers which apparently I will need from what you have said.

I also live in Basement but not in Canada I live in Sweden now. Basements here are different its not so deep inside the ground, windows are much bigger and heating system is usually outside the building. In Canada the difficulty is the vitamin levels go down very soon specially if you live in basements. Even though if you take supplements vitamin levels go down (specially Vitamin D, E etc.). This will eventually lead to tiredness and depression. Take care health is wealth.

We chose to live in a condo after living 2 days in basement airbnb. Just moved into our condo on 8th june. Looked at many condos in north york, scarborough and markham. Most of the condos in north york were tiny pigeon holes with huge balconies, but were close to subway/fairview mall. We decided to stay in markham as the condos here are decently big, if people plan to bring their parents to visit later try to find big condos. Old condos are usually bigger but no amenities.People who are ok with the budget and need big condos can surely look into Markham. All grocerie shops, walmart, costco etc is walking distance from places like karachi deive and new delhi drive, for us new settlers without a car we found this to be the best option. Check out condos.ca for having an idea about condos and their rent. All d best jake, your videos have helped us a lot. Hoping to pay it forward.

But does a condo offer a good return on investment because I once weighed it out and despite an out right purchase of a condo they still ask you for maintenance fees which are almost similar to renting

So , we are not buying a condo, we are renting it. And the maintenance rule applies almost everywhere in the world. I know it applies in India also

Wow! Tht ws an eye opener. Thanks for the heads up😊👍 the remaining part of this comment is actually similar to another comment i left in a video of urs from 2 months back. I have copied it here too just to make sure you read this (am tht desperate😅) Both me n ma husband are lawyers in india with more than 3 years of experience and we are more than willing to start with entry level jobs. My query is regarding the job opportunities for internationally trained lawyers. I am aware of the process i will have to go through to start practicing law but what about the entry level jobs for us? Till we qualify ourselvs to appear before the court will we be able to find good entry level jobs? Am really curious about the job market. Every one talks about MBAs n Engineer's prospects but everyone seems to ignore lawyers and doctors. So plz make a video for us
