I'm a canadian student at Niagara college. We have a lot of international students. I have noticed that most Indian students stick together in small groups. I have also seen girls being mean and unkind to those who are trying to befriend canadians. I can understand the desire to keep India close when you are far from home, but putting yourself out into a 'real' Canadian atmosphere includes regular interactions with us. Please get to know some of us! Most of us would love to help you transition here!

All the points are spot on and whoever is planning to move here must certainly watch this video and see if they can make the move smoothly. It’s also going to be a team work so both husband and wife must be prepared to work as a team. My husband is very helpful and I get stressed easily. His cool and calm nature help me settle well. I moved here with 2 young kids so the initial months were very challenging but now we are all well adjusted. Kids are going to school and things are well balanced now.

I love how you tell that Canada is not very affordable unless you have a higher than decent job. watched up to 12 minutes of your video, have to comment, born in Ottawa, remember standing on snowbank in front of our rented duplex home, I was 8 years old, our family celebrating at next door neighbors home, at midnight light snow was falling and could hear many church bells ringing in the distance, this was start of our centennial year 1967, riding in a horse drawn sleigh is like that feeling, winter here is a wonderful time after the heat of summer here, my friends would come to my grandfathers cottage at Constance Bay near Ottawa and spend the weekend ice fishing, we found the best temperature to fish was -18 C. We would head home Sunday afternoon with sunburnt faces and eyes crying from the sun blindness. What I have taught my kids is to hold the door open for other people coming in behind you, do not swear in public, speak up and thank people, do not litter, doors and windows must stay closed in winter, I studied printing specialty courses in Ottawa Technical High School and started first job in small print shop, the owner hired me at first interview and started the next work day, in the first week I was helper with folder, gather stitcher machine, sweeping floor, when there was no work needed I told my supervisor I was available for more work and would clean around the pressroom, by the second week, the manager and owner came to see me and promoted me to pressman on AB Dick duplicator, I had immediate responsibility to print weekly news flyers going in mail each Friday for Ottawa Construction Association, the job had to be completed by 2pm for the items to be folded and stuffed in envelopes, all staff would help to meet Canada Post deadline for the nearby station to mail all the envelopes. You have to work more than 100%, show you can get job done, can handle problems yourself, always let supervisor know of a better way to do something, never sit around on a job, find something to work on, I had to wear winter boots in the winter because bottles of water were freezing sitting on the floor by my press, you have to adjust to problems but let your supervisor know what is happening, I became federal servant by luck, I worked 6 years minimum wage but it gave me experience working on computer SAP system Compaq, HP parts returns and got the agency temp help position with that experience and the office staff knew I could be depended on for working overtime, solving problems, without management getting involved. You dress for winter here, a national chain Canadian Tire and their Mark's stores take good care of proper clothing to wear, it is always warm in the sunshine here. Greetings from Nova Scotia

Russell Campbell I have been living in us from last 23 years. Spent more then half of my life here. In past few years I have noticed why the u.s is bringing people who do not want to adopt the American way of life. They are not assimilating to us culture. If you have chosen this country to be your home. They should also adopt the culture. Those illiterate defame the immigrant community when they talk with big mouths at restaurants wal marts in general public. The USCIS should apply some terms and conditions at consulate before granting visa they must be able to speak white read English. And they will only communicate in English when they are in general public. And the u.s should stop the green card give away lottery. As mr trump says we are not bringing the best with this system.and last point stop giving the asylum to especially people of Punjab India. They have take full advantage of this soft system. Stop giving work permits to fence jumpers.

You guys have laid things out very well. Most Indians are used to being lazy in India and expecting their parents and maids to do all their dirty work. Yes, I too expected my mom to do a lot of the work in the house. Coming to the US in 1987 was eye opening when I had to put myself thru university for 5 years. The only job I could find was in dining services cleaning trash, mopping floors and serving food in the university dining services. I learned rapidly and I have a great life now, 33 years later. I have absolutely no regrets. Glad you have both adapted to life in Toronto. when I call my friends in Delhi and hear them instructing the maid, "Yeh lao, woh lao" makes me laugh. These friends actually both got their PhDs in the US and lived here for 13 years. Great job! Thanks for the wonderful information especially for those in India contemplating immigrating to Canada.

I was thinking about what you were saying regarding how if you don't have friends and family in Canada, you might be lonely and homesick. There are a lot of lonely Canadians too! We have small families and value our independence but that causes isolation. What many Canadians do to solve that problem is go out and Volunteer (which also helps you network) You can find organizations that align with your career who will sometimes offer free training or certificates. Where I live, you rarely see South Asians volunteer, it's more common to see that around Vancouver which is a big city. Speaking for myself and the people I know, we are willing to brfriend anyone of any culture but it's very hard to know people who you don't share a social circle with. I highly recommend volunteering to those who wish to thrive.

I am.more excited to hear someone finally say the hot truth to prepare people's mind.
Esp being a sane extrovert, it's not easy getting around making friends cos North Americans are hyper-individualistic.
So many people already have their friend circles, you might think work is a great place to make friends, but depending on the work and colleagues, it might also be the lonely place on earth due to workplace policies and culture.

100% correct information shared by the Canadian couple. Infact I owe to you guys. I came in July 2018,prior to that I saw your video on how to get driving license. I brought extract from Mumbai and was lucky enough to get license at the earliest. Moreover we should also explain the background of other jobs u get in Canada. Working in warehouse,Tim Hortons, Walmart ,Amazon etc. Till the time one get decent jobs you have to start the odd jobs in warehouse and retail center. Moreover we are working couple and we have two kids, some time we have to incur expenses on Day care.
Guys who wants to come to Canada kindly this couple advice very seriously.

Honestly when you say 'if you earn good in your countries' it's just funny, because life is so tough in Europe, so tough you cannot imagine, I mean France, England, these countries are dark, dying, without soul, without humanity, with no job at all, of course it should be difficult, but not as much as Europe, Europe is about tight roads, no green and disrespectful people, you can't compare the 2, if I come to Canada I will kiss the hands and head of any girl I meet for not being like people here in France and I will say 'you are amazing' to any person I meet because I will compare it to the soulless dying Paris and I will not believe it

As a Canadian born and raised - you are not wrong. This is a very very different country from 6 years ago. Our government is very unfriendly to its residents, immigrants and citizens.
Doctors, lawyers, architects, engineers, etc. in their countries come to Canada and become general labour in construction, stock shelves in grocery stores, serve food in restaurants, etc. Because Canada does not care about your experience, you must start over when you arrive in Canada and take many many exams and years of study.

When i was new in Canada I couldn’t find a job for 4 months. I would apply at least 10 places everyday online but never got hired. Then i figured that if you are applying for a job in Canada where you have a chance to grow, you should never tell them (or mention in your resume) about your mechanical degree and any mechanical work experience from india unless it’s a temporary contract. Because it gives them the impression that you will leave their company to update your study here.

The reason labor is costly is because developed countries like US, UK, Canada, Australia, and European countries raised the standards for all occupations. A Skill is a skill in whatever occupation a human works in. In a controlled population, when the standards of all occupations are raised, everyone can have a higher standard of living. This is the biggest difference between developed countries and developing countries like India with uncontrolled population. Unfortunately in India, it is literally impossible to raise the standards for all occupations due to uncontrolled overpopulation. With too much overpopulation of blue collar workers in India, it is literally impossible to raise the standard of skilled trade occupations or any other low level occupation such as care takers, scavengers, etc which is why Indian workers working in India and Indian foreign workers working in Europe, Middle east countries are not able to enjoy a higher standard of living. Due to poor standard of living Indians keep on searching for better opportunities such as work, education, etc in other countries.

Moving out of your shell requires a lot of strength mentally and physically which was the lesson that I had to learn in the most stringent way when I was away all alone for 3 years in another country. Adapting to the reality is the key to anyone's success after their migration.

Be prepared to shovel snow ;)
Ps I liked what you said about following rules and making your home country people look good. I did have neighbours from one of the countries you mentioned and they never picked up their recycling and it would fly around the neighbourhood and nobody liked the people there because we all had to pick up their recycling out of our yard all the time.

@@nareshbharwani4491 its a long story. They were quiet students so nobody said much but I mentioned it a couple of times to them as I was next door. Someone did eventually call (and it was not a neighbourhood with student housing its all single family homes) so they had to move. I did not call. I was trying to let them know about the recycling in person.
