So my Japanese friend Vamosy often has the experience of being mistaken for being Chinese in New York City. And when Chinese people try to speak to her in Chinese, which she doesn’t speak, she has zero idea how to respond. So she thought it would be an interesting idea if we went around together and I taught her what to say in Chinese on the spot, and then I could jump in as the impromptu interpreter when necessary. Before this video she spoke absolutely no Chinese at all and in this video she will speak to people only in Chinese. Make sure to check out her channel at: / @vamosyny7791

Dude, this video is heartwarming as hell.
It shows the beauty of being able to connect with people at a more trusting, friendly, soulful level by speaking with people in their language when you're not expected to. It's a beautiful thing. I do the same when I go to Tanzania every year.
I'm from Wales and a native Welsh speaker. Not that many people speak it in Wales. Living next door to England has not helped the language but even people who are Welsh by birth cannot speak Welsh or refuse to learn it. I just can't imagine not being able to speak the language of the country I was born in. Especially now, in the internet age. There's noooo excuse! Some Welsh people can't speak any Welsh at all, some even say the language is a waste of time and money. I know people who have moved to where I live, which is one of the heartlands of the Welsh language, and can't speak a single word of Welsh even after living here for over fifteen years! Now that's ignorance and arrogance for you!
    Anyway. Love your channel!

Xiaoma, there was a guy in the front of a line waiting to get into Kura Revolving Sushi Bar in Fort Lee last week.
I was like “Xiaoma?”, and he said hi but looked very confused. The said “How’s it going?” and he still looked confused. So I was like “You’re not Xiaoma are you?”.
He replies “No. Who is Xiaoma?”. I felt like such a moron. So I told him to look you up on UA-cam. I swear he was your doppelgänger. Same haircut, and even close up his face was identical. For a moment I thought it WAS you but just not wanting convo.
Anyway, I was embarrassed and felt pretty dumb. 😎

Great video (as always), Xiamao. It's really entertaining to see people's expectations turned on their head when your friend doesn't speak Mandarin, but you do. Keep up the great content (I know you will), and I look forward to whatever you do next.

That was a very fun video, your friend is a very sweet lady too, I really quite enjoyed people's reactions to her learning to speak to them, and the reaction to you switching dialects was very funny 'Am I being pranked?' lolol! Stay smart, stay safe, and keep that mask over yer nose folks! Big Cheers from BC Canada!

I just wanna be able to make people feel comfortable around me by speaking their language honestly.
To order my food in their language and then carry a conversation with them is beautiful and I’m so happy you spend your time on UA-cam doing that.
