I bought locally this time because they worked with me for best price. I'm more than willing to spend $300 on an airplane ticket to save $2700 though.
Agree 100%
That's exactly what we did. Checked the internet for good deals. Contacted some of these dealers. Went back and fourth and got the best price I could. Text the local sales guy I had been working with. Thanked him for his help and told him we were pulling the trigger on a truck from a different dealer. He called and asked what was the price OTD. Told him the price, he ask if ai had a couple of the deal worksheet. Said yes and sent him a copy of it. They beat it by $500. Saved me a 8 hour drive.
Perfect! Love hearing that. I have never been able to get local to match.
I travelled to Virginia from San Antonio for my Raptor R. Saved myself $25K. Heck of a joyride back to Texas!!
Just flew to South Dakota from San Antonio for a lariat myself
Did they tax you as soon as you registered your vehicle with Texas?
@ yes, I let them know I was registering it in Texas and they worked with my local tax office.
In San Antonio. Sounds like I need to travel out lol
This guy knows his stuff. Listen to him and follow his advice, and you'll save a lot of money.
Thank you
as a young man finding his way i really appreciate these videos jason. lots of great advice i love to listen and hear someone who has been around the block
Thank you. Glad you are enjoying them
i drove 2 states away to save 4700. worth it all day. About 4 hour drive each way so not too bad.
Perfect
587 dollars per hour. I think anybody in their right mind would take that deal.
Agreed…I try to purchase local first and always first. It is really tough when they one don’t want to negotiate even slightly AND are thousands of dollars higher.
Agree. But all we can do is try. If local won't work with me, I'm gone
Local can almost never beat nationwide competition. All 5 of my last vehicle purchase have been out of state. Even cheaper to ship the car on a carrier
Agree
funny, i have a chevy dealer 2 blocks from me. when I was shopping for my trailboss, they were horrible to deal with, clearly thought i was a idiot. overpriced the new truck and waaaay undervalued my trade. I drove 15 mins out of town to another chev dealer same day and bought a truck in 15 mins there, saved over 9k by doing that. They also had to bring in the truck from another city as well and still made the deal. Manager told me at the time he was only making 1k on the deal as I was trying to turn the screws a little more. I also followed my trade in on their website, they posted it for only 2k more than they gave me. It sold in a week, they may not have made a cent on that vehicle. Pays to shop around. I never even went back to let them match the deal, gonna try to rip me off, fk ya
Love it. And very well done
Funny timing for your video! I started shopping sunday for a 24 Gladiator Rubicon, found a deal in Tampa, and had it ready to go. I shopped that approved deal with a local dealer Monday and saved a 1900mile trip. We got close enough to the other deal that I was comfortable and now I have a 45 minute drive from the house to pick it up. Before having that paperwork to barter with the guys wouldn't budge a nickel. All done on the phone without stepping foot in the dealership, from first call to signing!
Perfect. Absolutely perfect
Don't forget about the Dealer Hold-back check they get from the manufacturer after the vehicle is sold, that's another a big reason why they don't like trading vehicles because they lose profit money on the sale. Holdback is essentially a hidden profit margin for the dealership. The holdback is intended to help dealerships manage their cash flow and profitability, even if they sell a vehicle at or near invoice price.
Always good advice from you sir. Thank you for doing so much for us viewers 😊.
Thank you. Greatly appreciated
I got dual citizenship to buy cars from out of the country. Saved about 40%.
I drove 100miles, 2hrs into the next state to buy my GMC Terrain in 2013 because it had what I wanted and was the best price.
Very good advice, thank you Jason. 👍🏻
Very welcome. Thanks
So basically, you're loyal to a dealership that could give a shit less about you.
Makes total sense.
In general many dealers have high turnover making it hard to maintain relationships. I buy from people I know and dealers that do not throw 1-5k in accessories on every unit. I don't want their $200 nitrogen, $600 window tint, $500 carpet protection... Some dealers also play games in financing. I just want the unit as it came from the factory for invoice minus rebates. That is a fair deal for all parties. When I bought my first truck the finance guy told me 8.5% was the best be could do and I needed to buy GAP for 3k as a first time buyer with a 725 credit score with 15k down. I went to another dealership and he said that was complete BS. He got me financed at 5.9% in less than an hour... He said the other dealership was up selling the rate and pocketing the difference.
Spot on! I’m about to start shopping for an AT4 and looking forward to the bullshit dealer games being over already. You have to spend the time to find the right vehicle at the most motivated dealer.
100% agree
I drove 60 miles in Jun 2023 & saved 6k. I take it for service to my local dealer.
I live in Pennsylvania and the local Chevy dealers, will only give you the factory 3 years 36 thousAnd miles warenty. In Florida you get a lifetime warranty and free oil changes as long as you have the vehicle, for the same price
I've bought 7 vehicles since 2006, and I've only purchased one of those locally. Keep in mind that only one of those vehicles was new because I let other people take the price hit from purchasing a new vehicle. I talk to my local dealers for the used car I'm looking to purchase(e.g., color, options). I go to my local dealerships for the used cars I'm looking for. I've always been able to save money from not buying local, except for one time. The mean savings is around 5k. I use my local dealerships for servicing, and their service departments are great.
I bought my Hellcat in 2020 . Traveled 8 hrs to OKLAHOMA from TX. Towed my scatpack charger to trade, came back with a brand new Hellcat Challenger. Not only Saved me 15k! I got the color I want (hellraisin)
@@Hellraisin77 outstanding
Truck prices are insane here in Trump county so I do have to travel to get a good deal.
What your are talking about is revealed in the book"How to Win Friends and Influence People" By Dale Carneige. You always able to do business most of the time with businesses that aren't local.
Ended up buying in WI after IL dealers kept playing games on a 2024 Nissan Frontier.
The 120 mile trip, thousands of dollars in savings, and a spec I uniquely wanted was worth the trip.
Perfect
Tuscadero pearl! Deer don’t care what colour it is.
I travelled 600 miles to buy my last truck. This was at the beginning of 22 when finding a decent deal was nearly impossible. I was able to find a truck that simply didn't exist in my home market.
I always watch the whole video 👍🏼
Thank you. Greatly appreciated
Good video Jason, and I always watch the complete video.
Thanks. I'm gonna start doing that more. Throwing the best tidbits of info somewhere later in the video so the people thst watch it get the benefit of the best tips😂
I'm kinda the same way. If my local dealers are at least competitive on what I want I support local businesses. On most of my larger purchases I also prefer American made if the quality is good. I like supporting American jobs. But, with manufacturing going global and UAW stuff I am having to rethink on some of that.
@@shannoncasper8670 yep it gets harder to do every year
Just bought me a 2024 Colorado LT, and my wife bought a 2024 Camry XSE, and I own 2 Harley Davidson motorcycles. All local. I find that buying at the end of the month or end of year I get more negotiating power, also example buying 2024's when the launch of the 2025 hitting dealerships.... dealerships trying to hit sell numbers.
Great video! I wish I bought new cars more often it would be more useful!
We live in a very rural Pennsylvania area. The car dealerships don't move a lot of new cars, so they are almost always willing to deal. When I bought my F-150 however, the local Ford dealer decided to try to play tough. They definitely didn't think I'd go anywhere else, so much so that when I found the truck I ended up buying 4 hours away in Virginia, they out right told me " you won't really go that far." Joke was on them, I did, and while we were getting that truck, my wife found her old expedition, and fell in love with it. Since then, all my local dealers fell under new ownership, all from the same group, and they are terrible. We went 2.5 hours west, near Pittsburgh to get my wife's new expedition. We gave them a chance to match, they had a twin after all, and they said no.
Yep. My local dealer would not match out of town on my gladiator and I showed up the next day on their lot to make a video. Sales guy I was talking to came out and said you ready ro buy thst gladiator. I said i was ready yesterday and gsve you the option. Tell your finance manager he was wrong when he told me the "deal over there will never happen" that's my new gladiator right there. He simply said "you got lucky, that rarely happens where they gold true to the deal". I smiled and said " that might be a tsctic they teach you here, but I buy a new truck every 2 years and never once had a deal go south".
Our local dealerships are terrible I suppose because our local buyer is either a wealthy sheep and will pay whatever is asked or they are just dumb. Within two hours either way I can go to North Carolina or Georgia and find $2000 to $10000 better deals and have for years now. Our local dealers just shrug and say, we can't do that. No, you can do it but won't do it because the local buyers allow you to be that way. I'm about as disgusted with peoples buying habits as I am dealer B.S.
work 20-30 dealers for the best price, then have your local dealer go get it and buy from them
So Jason, now that we have our truck at a very good price(thanks to you). Now we need to buy a travel trailer. Any videos on buying trailers? Same tactics? I'm thinking no as there are so many less dealers.
@@tomstrickland4686 same exact tactic. My last travel trailer we bought new in 2019 as a 2020 with a msrp of 40k. We paid 20100 out the door for it. Traveled the country in it from Michigan to Georgia 16 times and 3 times from Michigan to Kansas and sold it 3 years later for 24500.
@Jason-Samko that's awesome! Thanks for the response. Half off, that's incredible! Then you sell it for more than you payed for it, outstanding.
@tomstrickland4686 i try really hard to not let trucks and toys cost me much money. I enjoy them much more when they don't cost much to own
I saved about $4,300 back in March on my 21 tundra (Had to drive about 3hrs). As compared to my local dealer who is literally on my street.
I bought my 2024 Gladiator in a completely different state than mine and just drove it back home. All the dealers local just wanted to play games and add 5k in markup and add ons. BS
So I flew over to a different state, bought it there and saved thousands. 13k off msrp. Then I drove it 6 hours back home with a smile on my face. All this just to avoid dealer BS.
Very well done
Thanks Jason, great feedback on 2024 trucks, cars and SUVs. I've been a hardhcore Tundra guy for 15 years. Toyota stumbled bad with the horrible wimpy redesign of the Tundra and using much cheaper parts in its construction. I could not and will not buy another one anytime soon. Thanks to your input I am going to look at others makes and models to tow my bass boat. 😊I
Lots of great trucks out there to choose from.
If a local dealership doesn't play ball I'm totally ok with it. Our family uses the $ we save by traveling and treat it as a vacation (if its a new location)
What are you doing wearing my shirt? I’m in Georgia also. Don’t come down here trying to kill my big bucks!!! 😝
😂😂 only killed 1 buck in ga so far, and 3 in the mid west. But a month left of season here so I'm not making any promises 😂
Where’d you move to? Thinking about making the move myself. Harsh winters tear ya up. Fellow Michigander here lol.
Struggling to find a Ford dealer in NM who wants to work with you. Never had an issue in CA, AZ, VA or PA. In those States my trade was silver and their car/truck was gold, acceptable. In NM, my trade is coal and their truck is Platinum, ridiculous. NM is among the poorest population in the U.S., can’t figure out how these Ford dealers are surviving. Most likely heading to AZ or UT for my next truck …
Kinda crazy I live in Houston Texas and smh the prices are heavily inflated I can find a truck with the same specs about 3k less if I can travel an extra 300 miles
What about if a trade in is involved- how does it change the out of town, over the phone negotiations?
Add more baggage to the deal. And can be more complex if they try to lowball your trade. But most dealers will evaluate a trade thru text with pics and info so you know what your up against up front
@@Jason-Samko Thanks, I appreciate the response! 👍
No way, in Colorado, there are dealers still charging 10-20k market adjustment.
Great advice!!!
I have ask what you do for a living?
Besides UA-cam
That's all I do. 3 channels. This is my hobby channel. I have a hunting channel and a patreon hunting channel. Retired technically 2 years ago. Owned a photography company for 27 years with 11 shooters.
Thanks for sharing your background.
How do you buy our or state without holding residency there?
No need to be a resident there to buy there. And most dealers today will file all the paper work and taxes in your state just as easy as if you bought it 2 mins from your house.
When I was ready to my my Frontier , the local dealer did have what I wanted . I test drove the same optioned truck 8 months earlier but at the time I was not ready. By the time I was , I went looking through the AutoTrader . I slowly started dealing with 8 hours away and then eventually made a deal and traded off my car. But , now I worry about how the local dealer will react when I bring it in for servicing . Hopefully they will understand how things worked out. Time was running out for me to get the truck I wanted . I am able to look for myself to find what I’m looking for . If I left it for the local dealer , it would have likely more expensive. Nobody looks after my best interest but myself . Waiting 8 months did benefit me . I got a little bit better price a better interest rate and a free set of step boards . Small things but still it was better for me . The local dealer never did get a brown colour truck after except for a used ‘23 but it already had 80 kms . Too many mileage for the price . I feel comfortable with the truck but I do wish I could have bought from the local dealer . That’s just not the way it worked out.
@davelendzyk I've never bought a truck locally and I've always had them serviced locally. Never been an issue.
@
A teacher at the school I work at , her husband works at the Nissan dealership here so I had to have a chat with her to make sure that she wasn’t mad at me for not getting the truck from her husband. She was okay and understood.
Jason, just wondering, if you ever get hassled by the police for being on a dealerships lot after hours?
When you buy these out of town trucks where do you get them serviced at?
Local dealer. Always support my local dealers with service. Always try ro support local. But if thry won't give you thr best deal or close to it, I buy from somewhere else and then bring it to local for service.
I tried getting quotes from some dealerships that were more than 100 miles from me & they were not willing to give any quotes unless you went in person to the dealership.
@@Beattheroutine scratch those off the list and call others
What if you need warranty work. Then are you suppose to walk into the local dealer and expect him to get you right in and take care of your issues?
Yes. 100% and they all do. Without questions or exceptions. Every single time.
At least always check locally. You may need a favor in the service department down the road some day. I say this with almost 34 years of experience working for a dealership.
@JohnRobinson-sl9gk always try local and i always give local a chance again before I sign. Local never matches for me. But I always try
Today's Jeep is a four-wheel drive Fiat... Don't Overthink IT!!!...😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

Anyone know invoice on new Toyota TRD Pro ? No dealers will go below MSRP ?!
Any recommended toyota dealer in GA? looking for tundras
Franklin in statesboro treated my dad really well on his 24 sienna van and gave him good money for his f150 on trade. Bought my toyotas in Michigan before I kived down here
So you’re saying you’re a Yooper?
Close. I was about an hour 2 hours south of the u.p.
Did you get 5400 off Msrp or 5400 off msrp minus any dealer or manufacturer rebates
@65armadillo 540p off msrp. But not much room to negotiate as my wife wanted this color (now discontinued) and she wanted it loaded out. There were only 6 of these with in 1000 miles of me to work on. And o ly 3 inside of 500 miles.
@ I only ask because I’m looking for a 2024 super duty which seem to be hanging at the lots, some since the beginning of the year. Manufacturer is offering a decent amount off, but still not what I planned on spending. I would think the dealer might be willing to take some off the price as well to move the inventory, especially with 2025’s soon to arrive
@65armadillo on a 24 super duty I would definitely push for a bigger discount. And work many dealers. Tons of them on lots
If the dealership is a volume dealer and knows they are going to sell that unit with a healthy GP they don’t have the motivation to deal.
True
Anybody from California ever buy in Texas and drive back?
How’d taxes and registration work?
In California for registration it has to be California compliance. Most other states do get their vehicles that way but I have heard horror stories about California people buying out of state vehicles thst are not California compliant and can not register them. Something to watch out for and check on
You have a car buying course?
@alankoehler7282 I do. It's called the "save thousands Course " on my website tbwpodcast.com
And it is a good one....
@DefianceMoraine thank you
That dealer can't come within a thousand lol, probably has inventory over a year old too.
The Internet has made "Local" subjective....
Very true
Park it by a Ranger Raptor instead
I would if ford ever makes any more ford ranger raptors. They do t like to make many
@@Jason-Samko3 or 4 sitting at my local ford dealer in nc….they are not moving

Every dealer is local.
What does this mean ?
@ think about it.
@@gaurd3 I thought about it, and i understand now 👌
Screw local, they don't give a s*** about you. Why would you care about them? Just go for the best deal? I wouldn't even go to that 1 next to you for service. If they wouldn't give you the deal you wanted I would take my service elsewhere!
Don't buy a new one. They're all recall magnets now. Buy something old, and just put money into it. Trucks now aren't built well. I'd own a 2008 or older of any brand before I buy any new truck they make today. The only people buying new vehicles are people paying with the banks money because they can't actually afford to buy one.
Never support local! Spend elsewhere, keep wages low, reap the delta. That's the U.S way! Offshoting for the win! Destroy our own economy!
I've given up
You could care less about the color but yet you say you did not want black..... I know what you mean
"F" local dealer 😂 and all dealership lol 😆 as a consumer and serious buyer are you gonna sell or not 😂 if they give you a hard time just leave your info say you'll come back when thier ready to negotiate 😂 they'll be calling you
They often do call when you walk
Why don't you compare it to a ranger raptor ......oh yea it's better
K
Complain about prices....then push buying a truck.... manufacturers aren't going to change a thing
The channel content is interesting but the avg person is going to remain poor always buying new cars and having a car payment. Most should buy something that meets their needs and get from point A to B. Americans have been fooled they “deserve” to have all the options.
Glad you are enjoying the content
Trucks are such a waste unless you actually use it for work. Which most people don’t
Disagree. Trucks are for lifestyles that need it. I could not live the life I want without one
