I'm pretty experienced in the "bush" & was an adjunct survival instructor in the CG, but learned a couple of new things e.g.(45° angle sighting of a dead tree fall, & tarp/poncho wrinkles). Sub'd.

I recently got one of these old ponchos and love it. Mine is in the old 1980s-90s era ERDL woodland camo (like every other bit of military surplus I've got 😂).
The guys at the volunteer fire department I'm on give me shit by asking if I'm playing soldier or something because of how much I wear the old woodland camo pants and/or shirts. It's about the only clothes I have that I haven't managed to put holes in. I manage to wear out the knees and elbows of damn near everything else I wear.
If the weather is really bad driving rain when we get a call, I'll sometimes end up wearing the poncho when I respond to the station so I don't get soaked. I love the old ponchos though. There's so many possible uses for them.

I feel you about the clothes, my Carhartt pants only last me about a year or two before I wear a hole in the knee, we wore the woodland camo uniform when I was in the Air Force as well and they held up to field use pretty well. Have you snapped the bottom 3 buttons of the poncho so it wraps around your legs? It works well walking through wet brush and keeps it more compact but I imagine it could limit mobility in some of your applications, not sure though.

I love that you used clove hitches for the stakes and the quick release hitch I struggle so much trying to get a good truckers hitch

I agree, a truckers hitch on a small object is tough so the clove hitch works better.
