"Fn A". In the years of watching tarp tents, poncho tents etc... that's the first time I have ever seen the Alpha tent. Bravo brother... I will be using that for many things... Thanks
Great info! Now I see how useful a snow pattern poncho is for concealment, too. Thanks for the tip about sewing corners on your poncho... Will be doing that!
My wife has agreed to sew the pockets on the corners so I have ordered 3 different pattern ponchos, one with the snow and stick pattern. I was greatly impressed by the 2 stick set up, for both concealment and lean to use. In our southern forests, it is easy to find flexible straight saplings to set up that way.
Also with the Alpha tent, you can stake the four corners and tie paracord to the hoodie and toss over a branch and give it some tension. Great video, Thanks for sharing.
Best poncho setup vid that i have seen. I would not have thaught about making the alpha setup had i not have seen this. Excellent. I also love the snow camoflage clothing you were wearing especially at the end where you walk from right to left in the back ground.
Like your videos ! Been thinking of trying tarp camping because as I have aged my 6 lb. tent is getting heavier with every season.Tarps are much lighter and no poles to backpack in to the sites. So thanks for the set ups that you have shown .
I like the video sir, basic and straight to the point, one night set ups is what I'm looking for, I I just got a couple military ponchos, I like the idea of a space blanket for winter and summer use, good tip, and the camp dry spray sounds like something I should look into, I did not know there was an upkeep to a poncho...gotta look into that I guess...
Thanks for the compliment! I usually carry at least 50 feet of cordage minimum. I like the jute twine the best because you don’t have to worry about the perfect knot. Tie it, cut it and go. I carry paracord as my second cordage, as the saying goes “ two is one and one is none”.
Awesome. Love the Alpha. I have never seen that before. I am making a poncho right now out of a breathable fabric so I was nice to see what you can do with it .
Awesome video Kenny! I learned a lot of brilliant tricks. It looked like you were going to become a Human Popsicle near the end. I'm glad you hung in there and did that last tent. Thanks for your determination and your creative videos. Casey
That A frame would be even better with a Military Modular Sleep System (MMSS). Put your backpack or rucksack at your feet, to block off some wind. I keep my MMSS in my vehicle with my Large Alice Ruck.
Really cool different types of shelters! That alpha shelter was new. I like using a bow line with a bite and a toggle. Than a trucker's hitch with a quick release on the other end for my ridgelines. But your shelters were solid! I'd love to see you snap two ponchos together with an emergency blanket or two??? I usually carry my litefighter one man Multicam military surplus tent. Especially if I know I'm going to be out overnight! But if I was going to have to make an open shelter. I would want to make it as comfortable as possible! More videos using several ponchos and emergency blankets please?? Different size space blankets-emergency blankets would be awesome!!🤜🤛🇺🇸🇺🇸
Alpha tent & A frame works best with space blankets. Before you push down your poles on the Alpha lay space blanket down between poles and poncho..tape up any loose space blanket same with A frame. Couple of hot pockets heat pads on your core will greatly increase your comfort. Small 8 hour candles inside Alpha tent warms up considerably.
That is so awesome!! Thank you for showing us how to do that , you explained that so well I believe I can do that myself. Thanks again , stay safe my friend , God Bless
UglyTent Bushcraft & Survival lol just has an eerie feel to it that puts you on edge. Not saying it’s bad, just different from other channels I’ve watched. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Hey UglyTent...Loved your stuff 12/2019...Really impressed with your Ninja Stealth..cool. Watched many a survival video, bought the mylar blanket and the poncho. Your video brought a certain reality to the action.. I liked the bight and twig starter method...get your shelter up...Keep up the good work.
Any one of those shelters would be a welcome sight on a rainy night.I like the wedge myself. To me an all around better cover. The alpha looked good there on the fly. Thanks. ZZ.
for US poncho, tie ridgeline at belt height, lay poncho OVER ridge line and tie 2 OPPOSITE corners TO ridge line with Prussik or similar knots.. pull two loose corners down and skake them (one should point down in direction wind is coming from) Dad taught me that one from his time in WW2 and Korea
Any idea where I can get one of these military ponchos for cheap? I tried my local surplus but they charge an arm and a leg for everything I've checked out in the past Pretty sweet video. Showed a bunch of different shelters, some great tips really apprecaited
I was able to pick up 4 brand new Swiss army ponchos for under $20...they are different from the U.S. ones in that they have no grommets ,but have snaps. They're not entirely square. ... Have you seen those, have any tricks for those ? Excellent video !!!
FYI the Mylar surface is not as tough as the plastic material and wears off easier. So no matter the season keep it up. They may be better the nor modern ones, but probable not as they have not changed much, I have had the Mylar flake off before.
I have a large 9'4"" × 11'4" tarp so I am interested in this video. Some times I get creative, but want to see what you got. I also carry 2 ponchos for their practically, light weight, and versatility. Ok I saw it and I like the two stick idea. Great job.
I don't have a poncho but I think I'm going to get one for my emergency pack in the boot of my car, so this is just an observation, but it looks to me like you can connect these things together to make a more substantial shelter, just an idea.
If you had the upper attachment point against a tree instead of in between two trees you would also get the benefit of the tree shielding you from wind.
I thought that too, plus you can tie the hood to your ridge line saving you having to run what looked like a massive amount of cord to another tree, a definite hazard in the dark lol
You can just poke the ridgeline through the grommet in a loop, then put a stick in the loop. Real simple and once you pull the loop back through the tightness keeps the stick in place.
My dad always taught me to use bungie cords instead of 550 chord just because it’s faster to set up and take down in a hurry. Extra weight but the convenience is well worth it
great video man you and Wilderness Innovation has like the best poncho shelter videos ever. I wish I would try one out but I can't cause I live in the urban area and I would not pitch my shelter in the middle of the street saying that I'm completely camouflaged . I want to practice my survival skills but sadly my brother is going to survival camp next week and irs really not fair to me. But thanks for the video though.
I like the tarp and pocho videos like this. But in real life, I don't wanna spend a rainy night under a pocho shelter... Instead of making a shelter, it is better to wear the poncho and go home. :)
I really didn't realize how much dexterity you lose and how fast until I went camping in Montana in the mountains in the cold. It's really weird how your body reacts to cold.
Kenny ... KENNYYYYYYY! ... KENYYYYYYYYYYY!!! Why were you laying on the ground? I've been trying to find you for 2 hours so we could enjoy the marshmallows I found in my coat pocket!
Dang man. It sounds like part of your survival and prepper training needs to be some cardio! Cut down a couple saplings and you huffin' like you ran a marathon! Either that, or get your heart checked. There could be something seriously wrong!
Nah, I’m in good shape. You just don’t see what happens in between shots and behind the scenes. Sometimes it’s a lot of work. I don’t know if you were genuinely concerned or just trying to make me look bad...but I’m good. Thanks for the comment.
Cada dos, o tres palabras exalas aire como si todo te exigiera un gran sacrificio y eso hace que parezca algo difícil de hacer. Deberías aprender a respirar o controlar tu ansiedad. De lo contrario dedicate a relatar carrera de caracoles
This is the reason I prefer a poncho to a tarp! Love the versatility!
Kenny without geeking out too much I have a feeling you have a special place in your heart for the planet Hoth. Love the snow shelters really cool.
John you are exactly right! Empire is my favorite and it made a huge impact on me as a child.
As an office worker pog thats about to get sent to the field i appreciate this video
Glad it was helpful! Best of luck in the field.
The gift of the alpha shelter, thank-you.
You are welcome, thanks for watching!
"Fn A". In the years of watching tarp tents, poncho tents etc... that's the first time I have ever seen the Alpha tent. Bravo brother... I will be using that for many things... Thanks
Thank you brother!
Nice use of the poncho. Thanks and take care.
Thanks again, glad you enjoyed it. Take care too!
Thank you for this video. You offer several very good ideas.
“1989”! The year I graduated from high school! That music was sinister during the leanto description😬 Great vid buddy!!
I have seen most of these shelters before, but then you pull out a framed tent style set up 🤣🤣, brilliant.
Lol. Thanks!
The bight and toggle attachment idea was very clever.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
that toggle bite is genius on the poncho setup...never thought of doing that
Thank you! It’s yours to share.
That alpha shelter is really cool. I have an industrial sewing machine so I could modify one for myself. Very cool
I always will have a special place in my heart for a poncho hooch. Great video and thanks for sharing
Me too, I've had some great adventures with that poncho. Thanks for watching!
Great info! Now I see how useful a snow pattern poncho is for concealment, too. Thanks for the tip about sewing corners on your poncho... Will be doing that!
Thank you! Yeah give it a try and let me know what you think.
My wife has agreed to sew the pockets on the corners so I have ordered 3 different pattern ponchos, one with the snow and stick pattern. Sounds good!
Also with the Alpha tent, you can stake the four corners and tie paracord to the hoodie and toss over a branch and give it some tension. Great video, Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant video, thank you for braving the cold to show us those great shelters
Thank you for watching and for the comment!
Good demo. Really liked the Alpha shelter, Thanks for sharing.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Best poncho setup vid that i have seen. I would not have thaught about making the alpha setup had i not have seen this. Excellent. I also love the snow camoflage clothing you were wearing especially at the end where you walk from right to left in the back ground.
Thank you for the kind comments!
I'm very much a civilian woman and I learned a ton from this video! Thanks!
Thank you for the comment and for watching!
Great alpha shelter. Very good job!!!
Thank you! It's hard to do on the fly like that, it's much easier using flexible tent poles.
Kenny
I use the Vietnam era poncho. Made in 1962. Great video
Like your videos ! Been thinking of trying tarp camping because as I have aged my 6 lb. tent is getting heavier with every season.Tarps are much lighter and no poles to backpack in to the sites. So thanks for the set ups that you have shown .
My pleasure, thank you for watching and for the comment!
Excellent video. Really impressed with the Alpha shelter. Thank you
Appreciate you're going to the extra effort with this video.
Thank you! That means a lot.
simple, efficient, using what's around great video.
Thank you!
Best poncho shelter Video ever !!!
Thank you! Most appreciated.

Cool, thx for sharing!
Great video with lots of tips. Thanks!
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the great, concise information. Do you recommend any specific lengths of cords and knots to be cut ahead of time?
Thanks for the compliment! I usually carry at least 50 feet of cordage minimum. I like the jute twine the best because you don’t have to worry about the perfect knot. Tie it, cut it and go. I carry paracord as my second cordage, as the saying goes “ two is one and one is none”.
Awesome. Love the Alpha. I have never seen that before. I am making a poncho right now out of a breathable fabric so I was nice to see what you can do with it .
Thanks Bruce! I hope you're doing a video on the poncho.
Yep a video will happen. More of me confused trying to figure things out really
Awesome video Kenny! I learned a lot of brilliant tricks. It looked like you were going to become a Human Popsicle near the end. I'm glad you hung in there and did that last tent. Thanks for your determination and your creative videos. Casey
Thanks again Casey!
Some really good info and some really quick and easy shelters! Enjoyed the video! Thanks for sharing!
No problem, thanks for watching!

Thank you very much. I have done another video on the poncho with a tarp together, check it out!

All of them was Nice Build's. I learned a couple of things today❕
Thank you my friend!
The music you put in the back ground gives your video a horror video game feel
Lol. I’m not sure how to take that.
UglyTent Bushcraft & Survival lol just has an eerie feel to it that puts you on edge. Not saying it’s bad, just different from other channels I’ve watched. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
My military and Mil-tec ponchos are some of my favorite gear hands down.
👍
Poncho, Liner, & Air Mattress kept this 11b4p comfortable '71---'74.
Very good! Thumbs up from Ireland! :)
Thank you! Ireland looks beautiful, Iv'e never visited but hope to one day!
Great ideas. Thank you.
Curious about the white outer garments you have on. Are they insulated or just for camo
Just Camo and fun to wear.

Excellent. Thanks mate
Thank you!
Excellent video, thankyou
Thank you for the comment!
Nice presentation, and the music was never intrusive.
Thank you very much!
What’s going on with the hood of the poncho? I see a cord tied to it going real far behind the shelter?
Some great tips thanks
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Seems like they would be too small for heavy or continuous rain.
I wonder if extra large ponchos are available
Yes, they make backpacking ponchos that are bigger, however I think it might be the same size as the military ones.
Great Vid !
Thank you!
Whats the brand of the poncho?? Helikon tex?
Nope, just military surplus. Mine from when I was in the Air Force early 90s
Great stuff
Thank you!
Very nice video, I’ve been looking for this. Glad I found you.
Thank you, glad to have been of assistance and glad you liked it.
great video!
Thank you!
Any idea where I can get one of these military ponchos for cheap? I tried my local surplus but they charge an arm and a leg for everything I've checked out in the past
Pretty sweet video. Showed a bunch of different shelters, some great tips really apprecaited
They are getting harder and harder to find that’s for sure. I found a smaller version that is decent. But still not the same. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks big guy. Good stuff appreciate it.
Why does the reflective side go down during summer?
Don't know if anyone said this already, but I keep a set of prusiks with my ridgeline so I don't have to keep loosening and tightening my ridgeline.
I’ve mentioned it in my other videos, but yes that is a great suggestion.
The first two : how did you tie the poncho to the ridge line. I’m a beginner at this so bear with me.?
You can just poke the ridgeline through the grommet in a loop, then put a stick in the loop. Real simple and once you pull the loop back through the tightness keeps the stick in place.
Harry explained it well!
Thank you 🙏
......enjoyed this vid.......thx........like the A-frame......... :)

Great information to be had in these videos. Im not sure the ufo music fits tho.
Where did you bought that poncho?
It was issued to me in the Air Force. You can occasionally still find them at the surplus stores.
Thank You , very good video. G. f. Germany Katjana
Thank you for watching!
Kenny D
How does one obtain small poncho tents like shown on these videos?
+Michael LeBlanc this is the one I had in the military. But you can find them at most Army surplus stores or websites. Check MidwayUSA.com.
Learned a ton from this thanks!
Thank you, glad to help.
Kenny
You made this poncho? Specs? Plans?
It was a military poncho he's had for decades iirc. He mentioned it in the video
Thank-you
Thanks for sharing
Poncho shelters or cowboy bedrolls for me.
Did you make the winter poncho or buy it? If the former maybe a video? If the latter what is the source? Thanks.
+Mark Steele I bought it off midwayusa.com. I've been getting a lot of gear from them lately. Thanks for watching!
Kenny
Good to know .THANk You

Fantastic work, hard conditions...Regards...
Thank you!
best rain poncho for 2017?
You can pay top dollar for the cream of the crop, but I think the military surplus ponchos are some of the best choices, yes.
Kenny ... KENNYYYYYYY! ... KENYYYYYYYYYYY!!! Why were you laying on the ground? I've been trying to find you for 2 hours so we could enjoy the marshmallows I found in my coat pocket!
hi,,,,,,,,ya,,,,,thats the way i would do it ,,,,,,,the A frame,,,,,
