I don’t know what’s going on to this Guy voice like is there Reverb in his Voice naturally! No one I said it here first Non Vocalists can Sing like Eric Martin do.. High-low, scream, Soulful And what’s going is When he sings in his Prime voice like in HIGH NOTES he used to belt and sing with is Chest Voice and that’s Incredible. Hands Down 🙌🏼
LOL, this was how I broke down lead vocals back in the early 90s when I was learning a cover song when I was in a rock band. I was listening on a Walkman with headphones, play, stop, mimic sing, quick rewind, play, stop, mimic sing, quick rewind. I did this for hours. Drove my family crazy!! 🤣

It's funny but I was never into Mr. Big or Eric Martin even though I have heard this song a thousand times on the radio. I recently stumbled on the To Be With You video and I wonder how come I did not go wild for Eric Martin at the time. What a great voice and such a charming personality. I wonder how come Eric is not the megastar he ought to be. I mean he is famous but not like, let's say, David Lee Roth or Steven Tyler. Thank you, I really enjoyed this analysis. BTW I am glad you did mention Janis Joplin at the end, because indeed I do think he sounds a bit like her at times and even looks a bit like her.
Yeah its strange, the whole of mr big were a ridiculously talented band who most have gone on to do and play with some big names, but as you say erics not quite had that same success 😞 he does guest and sing on some albums with the band avantasia which are one of my favourite bands
Wow, i'm impressed. Eric Martin is one of my all time favorites, hugely underrated. I never see him being covered in vocal tutorials, which is quite a shame. You earned yourself a sub here.
thanks for that, i'm from Brazil and we will make a Mr big tribute, It's been 3 weeks since I first heard Eric Martin, now i'm trying to get this tecnics, thanks for this video man
I am on a quest to get Mr. Big inducted! Write to : Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame / 1100 Rock & Roll Blvd / Cleveland, OH 44114, USA. We the F-A-N-S owe it to them & to the memory of Pat Torpey to make this happen. They are long-deserving of this 31+yrs achievement & recognition. Get your friends to write in also, the more nominations that are sent in, then they WILL get inducted, finally, where they truly do belong!! Thank You!!
@@irishkhonz9865 not originally.. plus his mom was a Jersey girl.. Most kids pick up there accent from their mother.. I think he was about 15 when they moved to the Bay area
Please please could you comment on the parts at 1.16 where he holds the note at the "HOLD" you. (let me be the one to "HOLD" you) Also the bit at 2.31 where he holds the note on the word "ONE" (I'm the "ONE"). Would just love to hear what you think of those two particular parts as you didn't cover them before 😀 What an incredible faultless voice he has.
Those two words are really interesting. It sounds to me like he gives it a bit of yarling (lots of grunge singers did it in the 90’s like layne staley and eddie vedder). Instead of saying one, its more like wuurrrn, which you can kind of get if you raise your top lip up as though your were baring your top teeth. Add a nice bit of gravel and grit in there and you get another splendid eric martin vocal committed to record ❤ Hold uses the same kind of technique and sound as well i think
Hi I appreciate your video. Very interesting. You had asked where Eric Martin is from. Someone may have already answered your question, but he's from Northern California. The Sacramento area. But Mostly San Francisco-Bay area.
I would say so, in my opinion he’s never really been one to use mixed, he tend to really push up there for notes. And thanks buddy, glad you liked it :)
@@tron600 tbh honest, live he does struggle with the higher stuff. i've seen them a few times and he's never quite there. Might be tour fatigue as well
For me he is a vocal hero! But got to be honest, his live performances are never that good. I don't know what actually happens why he can't nail the notes for many times. The studio recording is always like *myth* btw. Some songs like 'the whole world's gonna know' or 'lucky this time' really hammer my jaw to the floor.
Yeah ive seen him several times live and he always struggles live. He says his problem is that he never vocal rests after shows, he always talks to fans and wears his voice out.
@@Vonbeardingham ah I see 😢 that's too bad. I wish he could budget his voice wiser. And hey, these days he even loses his gravel on his voice. Btw thanks for making this video! Do you plan to make another video about Eric?
It is! i honestly wouldn't really rate it though. When i've done vocal work to music libraries they have often commented that the mic sounds a bit lifeless without much character :( i'm looking to invest in a neumann tlm 102 when i get the funds
Eric has the most beautiful voice in the world.
Agreed ❤️
Yes
Eric is unreal.
He is a legend
Thank you! I love all musical activities of Eric Martin

Their pain and turmoil is well worth the reward 😂
Eric Martin is very unique voice ..he is my idol when i ws a child until now.
Well 15 years back I started loving Mr big. Eric is my vocal hero and Billy my bass hero as I perform and play the bass.
Appreciate the analysis 🤍
Sheehan is a bass titan, phenomenal player. Mr big really was the big boys of musicians

He reminds me of Freddie Mercury a bit. He even looks like him before Freddie’s mustache era lol
sort of see what you mean...just lol
Good job mate. Well done! Really loved it!
Gianfranco Ferre ah thanks dude 😃
Good job keep up the work
thanks buddy :)
Broooo, you sing sooo good
Thanks man, really kind of you
Great analysis of the great Eric Martin man!
A tip, use the spacebar and arrow keys to scroll and play instead of the mouse! :)
dimmank thanks buddy, and cheers for the tip 😃👍🏼
You got a lovely voice sir! Awesome!

Ah thanks dude, me and my buddy did a cover of it last night on our live stream if you want to take a nosey 😃👍🏼
Scott Weiland please
Pablo Moya García good idea! I’ll add him to the list!
So is he belting (chest voice) for 90% of the song?
Excellent analysis by the way!

His live performances from the early 90s sounded pretty good! He pretty much hit all the notes and sounded almost like the studio version.
